  1. It shows how easy it has been to dramatically improve the video specs of these cameras and that the manufacturers refuse to do so. We're talking about a camera that is almost 10 years old. I can understand the thinking of Canon, Panasonic, and Sony holding back to varying degrees. They've got expensive video cameras to protect. But Nikon, Olympus, and Fuji dropped the ball. They could have made serious inroads if they had recognized how important video was becoming.
  2. This Photokina is looking like it's gonna be pretty boring.
  3. With the exception of the Dual Pixel Autofocus, which everyone knows is amazing, they sound thoroughly unimpressed. And yet Dan ends up saying he's gonna get one. LOL
  4. If you're serious about video as well as stills and want to shoot with Canon go buy a camera with a C on it to carry along with this what I'm sure will be a great camera for stills.
  5. Their cameras are gonna sound a bit too similar- the G80, GX85/GX80, GX8.
  6. WTF? Andrew has done reviews for them.
  7. What is the hold up with the organic sensor? It sounded so promising.
  8. There's probably some truth to this, though I've still heard a lot of pros complain about the Canon DR compared to Nikon. They obviously can make it work with the Canons, but they still prefer more. Lately it seems Canon sensors are becoming more competitive though. Yes, all good points. Not gonna disagree. I mean, it's not like there has been a mass defection to Nikon from Canon pros.
  9. The picture is lovely. But in terms of DR, Nikon has been blowing Canon out of the water and it's not even close.
  10. I wanna see a BMPCC mk ii, though I know if there is one in the works, it won't be at Photokina.
  11. Damn, you've got some serious skillz.

    Canon XC15

Why do you have to make it personal and take such a disgusting cheapshot? You should apologize as should Jimmy for upvoting this comment. We're talking about a freaking camera. Why do you people lose your shit just because someone disagrees? IT'S A FREAKING CAMERA. Who cares. No need to start personally insulting someone.
  13. The price is now back to the regular price. It was just a brief drop. It still might mean a D750 replacement is around the corner but maybe not. Seems way to soon to me but then again, they might be worried about the 5d IV. I wonder how much of the D5 technology a new D750 will get. Will it get the autofocus?

    Canon XC15

So what if a DP who gets paid by Canon has used it? There are pros who make use of the BMPCC and any number of cameras out there- doesn't make them pro cameras. It produces great looking footage, but in terms of build and functionality, it's a toy compared to their higher end cameras/lenses.
  15. First, the EM1 does shoot at 24 fps. Keep in mind, there was a software update to the EM1 and EM5 mkii from about a year ago that added a number of features to each camera. The stabilization is not the same in the EM10 ii. The EM5 mkii and the EM1 offer up to 5 stops of stabilization. The EM10 ii offers 4. Olympus says it's 5 axis but it's not the same as what you get with the EM5 ii and EM1. Your main interest seems to be stills, which is why I'd go with the EM1. But if video is serious concern I'd go with the EM5 ii. Check out John Brawley's blog if you're interested in either camera as he is a cinematographer and also an Olympus shooter.
  16. The em5ii has better image stabilization and is much more video focused, especially after the update. I'd consider it or the EM1. They recently had the EM1 for a 1 day only sell at $799. EM1 mkii is gonna be announced at Photokina so you should be able to get new EM1's cheap after Photokina. I would not consider the EM10ii. I'd probably get the EM1. Also, not sure about where you're at but there was a really good deal on the G7. You can get it, the 14-140, a free 25mm f1.7, and $100 off the 42.5mm f1.7. So for $1,297 you could get a zoom that gives you a lot of range and two fast primes. You can also get the G7 without the 14-140 for less money and you still get the free 25mm f1.7.
  17. I think the upcoming Sigma Quattro with 30mm f1.4 kit lens for $999.99 looks like an interesting camera, just for photography though.
  18. mercer mentioned a Takumar being radioactive. I think that's something everyone who gets into buying vintage lenses should be aware of- that some are radioactive and they should make an informed decision about buying them with that knowledge in hand. I fully understand many, perhaps most, of you are not at all concerned about the radioactivity of some of these lenses. But it might be something the OP wants to keep in mind.
  19. I'm not sure what you're saying here. Do you believe Super 35 is similar to what is commonly referred to as Full Frame- like a 5D? The sensor in a Super 35 camera like the Arri Alexa, at least as I understand it, is almost identical to APS-C in terms of field of view. I simply mentioned those focal lengths because I figured you and other folks would find it interesting, the focal lengths that other DPs tend to find most useful.

    Canon XC15

If Canon is able to put a 24-100mm equivalent f1.8-2.8 in the G7x which is tiny compared to the XC10, surely they can provide an even better lens with a similar focal length for the XC15. I know the slow lens tended to be the first thing most people complained about.
  21. I completely understand not liking the guy, but why do the anti-Trump people have to sound so utterly unhinged and irrational? Also, Hillary sucks too.
  22. This person over on cinematography.com polled 25 of their DP friends. 23. My apologies TSV. It looks like I rated this thread 1 star while I was simply scrolling down the screen wjth my thumb. I then tried to change it to 5 stars. Just don't want you thinking someone considers this a 1 star thread, though some people at Panasonic might !
