  1. Photo Rumors says it's gonna be €3,799. If video is your thing, that seems like a crazy sum to pay for this. Have to think you can buy some solid video cameras for that amount. But I know everything is more expensive in Europe (except health care) so maybe not. Do you have to have full frame? It just sucks this will not be a 1DC replacement as well as a great stills camera. Pretty sure the primary focus will be on stills.
  2. Probably cause they limit stuff like that to what they consider their cinema line and they don't see this as one of those cameras, though I'm sure they expect it to get a lot of use from indy filmmakers. Yeah, it's remarkable what the GH4 can already provide. Now imagine how much better the GH5 and GH6 will be. Both of these should come out before we see a 5D mkV. I know cameras are more than a spec sheet, but I'm not understanding the excitement. Maybe it will be incredible though.
  3. I agree that the 5D raw footage is stunning but it's not Canon that is providing it. It's yet to be seen if and when Magic Lantern can provide similar capabilities in this camera. If they can, this camera should be much more useful.
  4. You've got so many devices that can do 4k now, it's not like it's a rare thing anymore. I guess Nikon is making the cheapest DSLR possible and the parts they're reusing just can't handle 4k. I doubt many of the people this camera is targeting will choose this over their cell phone, which might even shoot 4k.
  5. Why will you choose this over another camera in the $3,000-4,000 range? Seems like there are options that are a better choice for someone doing video. Or do you need something that can do stills and video well in one camera? The dual pixel is nice to have but you can now pick up a new C100 mkii for not much more money. You think these specs "rock" compared to what other companies are currently offering and what they'll be offering in the coming years? I'm not seeing it. But I'm sure Canon will sell tons of them because so many are already heavily invested in their system and this will be more than enough for most of them.
  6. Check out the other Olympus vid on the frontpage here. Brawley commented.
  7. I certainly don't think Red looks bad, not that my opinion matters (I'm one of those hobbyists you mentioned and admittedly far from an expert). I actually think Red looks pretty fantastic. I've just heard my favorite cinematographer (Roger Deakins) and others rave about the Alexa. But I'm sure there are some who love Red just as much.
  8. There are a number of vids of Riger Deakins talking about his love for Arri and the Alexa. He ain't no hobbyist.
  9. I had no idea Hans was such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to anamorphics. Impressed.
  10. I'm no fan of Hillary at all, Bernie Bro here, but I think this looks hilarious. Pretty much over the top propaganda. But if someone else digs it that's cool.
  11. I bet Olympus will be able to make the stabilization just a little better with the EM1 mkii. Imagine a camera with their stabilization combined with Canon's dual pixel autofocus. It would be an incredible tool for documentarians wanting to use a small form factor.
  12. Fantastic footage. Makes me excited to see what the EM1 mkii is gonna be capable of, though I imagine it will be more stills focused. It's very good that Olympus is working with Brawley.
  13. Well I dig what you do and appreciate all the hard work you put into it. I'm learning a lot.
  14. Tito, I wish you would consider some future videos where you combine modded lenses with 1.33, 1.5, 1.75, and 2 to see what kind of looks you can achieve. Also, that lens where you made the aperture purple, I wanted to see what the pics/video would look like after you were finished but I don't think you posted any. Anyway, thanks for all you do. Love the vids.
  15. Adorama has the GX8 with a free 12-60mm lens and a $150 gift card for $997.99. They also have the G7 with the 14-140mm, a free 25mm 1.7, and a $150 gift card for $997.99. Not only that, but you can save $100 on the 42.5mm 1.7, so with the $150 gift card you end up getting it for $97. Imagine, you can get the 14-140, 25, and 42.5 plus a G7 for around $1,094.99. Seems like a good deal to me, especially if you don't have any m43 glass.
  16. I actually prefer Panasonic to Sony. I think Panasonic are much better made and well thought out. Which is why I'm pulling for Panasonic and really hope they're able to put something groundbreaking like that organic sensor in the GH5.
  17. I never said the sensor is the whole story, but it's a big part of the story. I also never said they've stood still, but compared to the advancements we've seen from APS and Full Frame in recent years, the improvements in m43 have been weak. If they recycle a sensor for the GH5 and only manage to get slight improvements out of it thanks to processing, many of their customers will be disappointed. I saw a videographer who was working at the RNC convention say it seemed like everyone who was shooting mirrorless had switched to the A7s and had dropped Panasonic. He did not see a single GH4, which surprised him, because at one point it was a popular camera. It's why I think Panasonic needs to delay the release of the GH5 until they can put something like that amazing organic sensor you mentioned, and they announced years ago, in it. As far as the thread being about the GX85, you're right, but there has already been plenty of discussion about the GH4 and GH5 in this thread, which is why I made the comment. I think it's critical for Panasonic to get the GH5 right or they risk losing even more ground to Sony.
  18. Unless you absolutely have to use the same camera for stills and video, I don't know why anyone who primarily shoots video would get this instead of a dedicated video camera. In this price range you have some much better options for video. Unless this camera turns out to be a 1DC replacement. Which it will not.
  19. That you don't wish to respond to? Example A: you hit the quote button but decide you don't want to quote the person and just want to respond. But everytime you try to respond the quote now appears and you can't just make a reply. The forum keeps adding the quote. Can you turn this off? Example B is you do want to quote someone but you hit the backspace button before replying, because the cursor is too low, and the cursor ends up in the quote box. At that point it is simply impossible to contstruct a reply as far as I can tell. Nothing you do can get the cursor back underneath the quote. Is there anyway to turn off some of the automated stuff that seems unique to this forum?
  20. I think Panasonic really needs a significantly improved sensor for the GH5. You look at the advancements in aps and full frame sensors in recent years and then look at m43 and it's just sad. If they come out with a modest improvement over the GH4 I think Sony is gonna eat their lunch. Better to delay the release until it's a real upgrade.
  21. Sucks that you sold off a number of prized lenses to pay for it Tito but glad it didn't end up worse than that. Thanks for letting people know about this scam.
  22. Or some other vintage anamorphic you're particularly fond of. What would it entail? Could you legally produce it? Also, how did the Baby Hypergonar manage to be so tiny while something like the SLR Magic 2x is enormous in comparison.
  23. Why won't Netflix accept Alexa? This article about Sony's new codec, which sounds very impressive, has a pic of a couple F55's that are gonna be used for a new Netflix show. Very interesting article. OP, have you looked at the F5? http://www.fdtimes.com/2016/08/05/sony-axs-r7-x-ocn-original-camera-negative-recording/
