Well, if this means the true *END* of the NX1 then I look forward to later on this year buying a secondhand Samsung NX1 for US$500? ;-) Hope so. As I'll use my Nikons on it, so I don't care what happens with the lenses.

Haven't there been 2 or 3 people in this exact topic who've shared their overwhelmingly positive experiences with Kinefinity's cameras? Hasn't a Chinese resident explained that they have huge street cred and market share over there, in the second largest filmmaking industry in Earth? Haven't we seen some very impressive work shot with their last few cameras?
To me, that speaks volumes. 'Nuff said.

I think people are being tongue in cheek about the map thing - I certainly am, and it was only one guy who seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder taking the prores thing seriously!

Maps are the fundamental part to a working camera. I hope RED got their map right or we're all doomed!
Not sure why there is a lot of animosity against Kinefinity. They are offering excellent cameras to the market and people are in a huff puff about it.

This. Best bang-for-buck on the market right now.
Alternately, spend a bit more and get a used RED One, but it will be much more frustrating than an F3.
Plenty of movies and television have been shot on F3. Plenty more feature films and television have used the F3 as an A-cam versus the BMCC.
Unless you desperately want 4k or something..

Single best 1080p image? Easy to edit? Small file sizes? Cheap?
Sony PMW-F3 (unlocked for RGB and S-Log) shooting internal.   under $1300
Slightly more grading resilient footage? - as above plus a bm video assist. Under $1800
Greenscreen work? - as above but with the Pix-E5 recorder. Under $2200

I saw this a few hours ago and I dismissed it as part of the 1st April charade.
But, Wow. This looks Damn promising. If this is as effective as advertised, then small budget indie filmmakers can throw away their stabilizers, and go even more compact for guerilla shooting.
I wish Panny would have a Paid VLog for All Interchangeable Cameras. Also, they should Atleast try and fit a ProRes flavor into it, somehow. The lowest 2 ProRes flavors aren't really that large in terms of file sizes. Maybe users can pay something similar to the VLog to get ProRes. Panny should atleast offer that option, like $99 each Extra.

Yes and most of all I like it to happen to Panasonic! And I do have a lot of all manual glass, so it would be nice you didn't have to resort to other cameras or gizmos to get stable handheld shooting (mostly on static shots, but if it works nicely on dynamic shots, that's a huge bonus).
-- btw, found something interesting when I was looking for the press release on their official site earlier... the DVX200 getting a firmware upgrade that 'changes the default color palette of the camera to a look designed to be more natural without the need for an adjustment'. If that finds its way in the Lumix line-up it might mean better colors right off the bat!

Moot.  Kinefinity wouldn't be broadcasting about prores support if they didn't have the licence in the bag in some way or another.  The person who responded to your email probably just went on their own website, saw the brand isn't listed and responded accordingly.  I seriously doubt the person handling random unsolicited emails is taking the time, let alone even able to access the list of pending licencing deals going on in one of the biggest technology companies in the world!

Wow wow, that is an amazing deal on the battle test KineMINI 4K!!!

    Seriously considering that now...
But no David, must resist the temptation to spend money! & be content with what you have now :-)
Wonder how long until they'll have Battle Tested Terra bodies for sale? Probably not after a year, maybe two years from now? As I really like that ultra small form factor. I think I can squeeze out that much more lifespan from my Sony PMW-F3 / BMPCC until Terras show up as a Battle Tested deal.

The KineMAX 6K does not have ProRes. Only the JUST ANNOUNCED 6K camera does. I doubt that Kinefinity would switch from Cineform to ProRes without getting proper licensing. Considering that everything Kinefinity has ever promised they have apparently delivered on time and time again. Just because it is a Chinese company doesn't mean they indulge in seedy business practices.
Personally I'm looking forward to picking up the 4K after this lowers the price of that camera. 2K cineform is plenty for me   Especially with that locking Nikon mount speedbooster.

Wow, a conversation about a new camera release has turned into arguments over ProRes licensing?
Kinefinity are actually a small unit in a huge Chinese astronomy imagery company, I'm sure they have all this stuff sorted.
Aside the negativity... this camera is a very compelling option which needs better worldwide support. I'm excited to see more of this camera soon.

IronFilm reacted to Phil A in 5D Mark 3 Raw in 2016?
That's kinda surprising because if it's at least a stop better, that would mean the BMMCC would have only like 10 stops of DR while they claim 13 (5D III is measured at 11.7 EV DR in stills Raw). Samuel hurtdao measured the usable DR (which everyone defines somewhat different) as 12 EV for BMPCC Raw and 10.3 - 11.3 for the 5DIII Raw (with banding in the last stop of - desaturated - highlights).
I'm still impressed with a lot of the videos shot with 5Diii ML Raw but for photography it's really fallen behind, especially for landscape stuff. The current sensors in the Sony, Nikon, etc. lineup made by Sony and Toshiba have just so much more DR that you need graduated ND filters for the 5D to get the same results in landscape photography, for some other stuff (e.g. backlit portrait with strong selective pushing) you're just out of luck due to the strong banding in pushed shadows with Canon. Despite that I think the usability of that camera is best in class, I got super happy when I saw Fuji put the little joystick into the X-Pro2. Makes me curious for what the 5D IV will bring.

My prediction is Canon will carry on being predictably boring.

And BMD has never made a "mk2", why start now?

No, instead it will be something new, or a twist on an existing product (like the BMCC => BMPCC => BMMCC progression was, each one a little twist and improvement on the way before. But not a "mk2"! Ditto the progression of: BMCC => BMPC4K => URSA 4K => URSA Mini 4K

NAB 2016 will be all about 360VR I reckon.

Someone may come out with a 360 camera to rival the OZO at a significantly cheaper price...

A reported 1 million pre-orders for Oculus, a reported 3 million pre-orders for Playstation VR.
Once they are in stores and getting rave reviews (which they will)... the landscape will change fast. Obviously dictated by games, for the most part, but 360 video is going places too. I've used prototypes at trade fairs and it is pretty special now they have tightened up the latency.

I think there will be different levels of VR... Google Cardboard will be a good intro step into it, but the CPU/GPU is limiting compared to what will be on offer for Oculus and PSVR. But for 360 video, it will be fine and makes alot of sense, as people update their phones quickly.
The gaming world is gona go wild for it though, even if it is a step back to about PS2 levels of graphics... The immersion is just a giant leap in gaming. Very interesting tech.

Yup, its actually one of the corner stones in their entire business model. To reuse parts as much as they can.
You find the same exact components in all of their gear. Plugs, sockets, displays, etc, it sits in their cameras as well as studio gear.

None of us know the in's and outs of the negotiations between Apple and Kinefinity. The facts we know are: Kinefinity has been reported to have been negotiating with Apple for two years, Kinefinity put out a press statement that they have official backing from Apple for Prores, Apple haven't updated their website. Apple haven't started any court action against Kinefinity in the 7 months the announcement has been made, or ever, nor made any official statement debunking the press release.
This isn't the pattern of a copyright infringer, for starters, the bogus implementation of Prores has been in the wild for many years, they could have slotted it into their cameras in a very short amount of time, the fact they have taken this long seems to infer that they are following Apple's process. Secondly, Apple have had 7 months to put a stop to this, and yet have chosen not to. This is not the pattern Apple follows with it's legal action, they make public statements very quickly after media coverage, and always aggressively protect their IP.
Occams Razor suggests that Kinefinity are in the process of getting official approval, have not yet got it but have reached the stage where they feel confident in putting it in their marketing material. Apple not disagreeing with their press release suggests that at a minimum, there is a bridge in place that Apple do not wish to burn. (Actually, if this were any company but Apple, OR would suggest that the update to the webpage is sat in some developers TODO list, but I daren't invite the Macocalypse on myself by suggesting that there is nothing special about the company)
Either way, thank-you for keeping nationality out of it after I asked.
