Agree with all of this. I would also be really interested in what the next 24-30mp body (S1Hii or S1x or...) would be and I hope to-f it's not another many months before we have an inkling, but I'm not holding my breath.
The S1 sensor is still incredible for how clean the files are for low-light or when lifting shadows with minimum penelty.
Triple agree regarding no S5 body and the importance of ergos. Maybe quintuple agree.

Can I introduce you to an up-and-coming forum with a vibrant photographer community - called DPReview?
(joking, joking & no shade at DPR beyond being tired af at all of the knee-jerk anti-video sentiment - I've abandoned engaging the L-mount thread a while ago now...)
I totally get it for your (and others) use-case and it's notable that your preference is supported by having three other bodies doing video specific things.
On my end, the split between photo and video for paid work is so close to 50% (while closer to 65%+ of my income comes from video due to higher rates for video work). I'm rarely out there with two bodies when I'm doing hybrid work so, yeah, I'm looking for that all-around capable body that has more flexibilty (i.e. power) for stills, for its ability to auto-focus in lower light and with subjects with darker skin, and better video... great, yes.
Keep my S1 body for two-camera shoots, etc.
Edit: also, on the photo front, the rumor some weeks ago was that there has been some form of collaboration between Panasonic and Capture One that will be revealed with this annoucement. Could we FINALLY get tethering support between the two?? Desired/needed.

Assuming the rumors are correct, it looks more like a cheaper R5 ii competitor to me.
If it's intended to be a replacement for both the S1r and S1h, it'll be interesting to see what the rolling shutter performance is like. The Sony IMX366AJK sensor 'stephen' mentioned above is rated for 120fps at DCI 4k, 12-bit readout (I guess using 2 x 2 pixel binning with a vertical crop, as it's a native 3:2 aspect ratio), and DCI 8k at 60fps:

One of the rumored specs says: mechanical shutter - 10Fps. Aha ! Here is what else more S1R II will have compared to Nikon Z8. It will have a mechanical shutter.  Panasonic will get off the shelf sensor - IMX366AJK, while Nikon Z9/Z8 uses IMX609AQJ apparently modified IMX366AJK specifically for Nikon to have low readout times for photo, in fact lower than in video. I think photo users will like the mechanical shutter.

We will have to see what niche Panasonic wants to hit. If they are prioritizing a fast sensor over a slower read 60+MP sensor, then you know they are going for high performance versatility. Of course, there will be complaints about "Panasonic abandoning photographers" in favor of good video specs, but that's not a lament we'll hear in this forum.

Rumored spec from the comment section
    44mp "high speed" sensor
Can do 40fps (with electronic shutter)
Can do 1.5 secs precapture RAW
    Open gate
    Price around $3500

8K opengate? I wonder will they have 8k60p as well?

Interesting indeed. Missed an EVF (but for the intended target is a no problem) and one or two proper control dials (you have one on the lens and one on the 4 way pad).

The cooling solution is VERY neat. Let's see the stabilization, since it is OIS only (plus eletronic stab). But kinda surprised, is really a new camera, not a rehash.

Pity the ND is only 3 stops, though that's the same as the ZV1/RX100 V.  6 or 8 stops would be better for shooting in direct sunlight, but better an ND filter than no filter.
Looks like a pretty decent compact - basically Canon made the successor to the RX100 V that Sony didn't make.

    There's already a thread about this camera - https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/90124-canon-v1-14”-sensor-16-50mm/

I've owned at least two 'pocket' cameras with a built-in ND - the Pana LX7 and the ZV-1.
I suspect they have them because making an iris that closes to e.g. F22 on a small lens/sensor is probably quite difficult (and they don't have filter threads to add an ND), so to maintain 180 degree shutter angle for video in very bright conditions means an internal ND is fairly essential.

this is a pretty cool pocket camera. I never expected canon to come out with a camera specced out so good. Built in Nd Filters, cooling fan, canon log 3.. Makes me wonder why they didnt include built-in ND's into camera like the S5II, A7SIII and so on. And now all of a sudden a pocket camera has it.

Some of the key features of the PowerShot V1 include:
    1.4″ CMOS sensor
    Ultra-wide angle 16-50mm zoom lens
    4K 60P recording
    Canon Log 3
    Built-In Cooling Fan
    Built-in ND Filter (3-stops)
    30fps stills performance (electronic shutter)

    It's this:
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1280873-REG/sony_selp18110g_e_mount_lens.html
It's a cine lens design spin on their much much much cheaper Sony 18-105mm F4 photography lens (one I've had for years and years, a great run and gun lens):
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1001011-REG/sony_selp18105g_18_105mm_f_4_g_lens.html
Kinda wish I had this lens for my Fujfilm camera, maybe the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 is what I should give into temptation and get instead. Slightly more expensive, very slightly wider, somewhat less range, but a full stop faster.
I'd imagine Komodo users will be happy to simply get moderately good enough AF for simple sit down interviews.
    Means they won't have to:
    1) rent an FX6/FX9 instead
    2) or pay for a 1st AC for the day
    3) or pull it themselves and have to divide focus (ha!) between being in focus vs camera operating vs directing vs lighting vs audio vs etc everything else they do when doing a simple OMB sit down interview
It's been normal for years that RED would do massive price slashes to their cameras as they near their end of their lifecycle (or even early into it!).
People should stop getting upset about it.
    Even ARRI does this now.
    https://ymcinema.com/2025/01/28/arri-unveils-new-alexa-35-entry-level-model-with-flexible-licensing-and-affordable-media/
    That's the expectation/hope.
And I would personally be shocked if we don't eventually see RED cameras broadly roughly speaking "matching" Nikon mirrorless performance for video AF.
The question is only if it happens this generation or in the next generation.
As doing it this generation is severely limited by both the hardware architecture and the software architecture RED has been using. The hardware their current generation RED cameras are using might flat out prevent them from ever matching Nikon mirrorless video AF performance, or even coming vaguely close. But even if it's not a barrier, and it has enough horsepower to do it (and the right kind of horsepower), then the entire software architecture that RED is running on might require a total overhaul from scratch to allow good enough AF performance. And Nikon might feel that's not worth it for a generation of cameras that only has a limited lifespan left, and would rather put all those efforts into instead the next generation of RED cameras, and have an entire new software stack built for them to run. (perhaps sharing something with Nikon mirrorless, for productivity efficiencies)
In the long run I expect RED/Nikon to drop support for Canon RF Mount, it might even come as soon as their next generation of camera releases ("DSMC4" or whatever they call it, or Komodo Gen2, or whatever) which then will be only in PL / Z Mount.
If I was to take a wild guess, that's what I'd think as well. Keep RED as the "luxury / prestige brand", but put in RED the good stuff from Nikon (such as lenses / AF), and put in Nikon the good stuff from RED (such as redcode raw, and matching color science. Make it super very easy to use a Nikon mirrorless with the RED cine cameras. Such as a person might use a Sony FX30 with a FX9 camera, or a Canon R5C with a C400)

Maybe the Sony 18-110mm cine zoom with an E to Z Mount adapter?

    They do.

    At least two big factors:
    1) there are a tonne of Sony E Mount users, now they can very easily transition over to RED
    2) Nikon will bring better AF to RED than Canon ever would have

Well to be fair they basically had done their homework on what film looked like because of the work they did on the Arriscan. In its time a revolutionary film scanner.

The sensor in this ended up being what went into the first Alexa.

The color science work was already done one way   They just reversed it

    Ordered the Viltrox.
The price for what you get was too hard to pass.
I'll let you guys know how it compares to the SmallHD 501.

Does anybody by any chance know if the threaded holes on the Viltrox DC-X3 are regular arri locating? Or different spacing? The SmallHD's have a different spacing.

I'd just do that if I were you!

Has anybody used the Smallrig 4415 VND 4x5.6 Filter tray?
Looking at VND's currently. Was going to DIY hack a VND to matte box. But maybe the Smallrig 4415 can be easily adapted? On the B&H website at the Q&A section is stated that it works with a Tilta MB-T12.
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1852163-REG/smallrig_4415_multifunctional_vnd_filter_tray.html/qa
Apart from if it would work.
    Is it a decent filter?
Before was looking at K&F(budget, popular on YouTube) Vaxis or Haida (Also popular on YouTube) VND filters. Or are the B+W XS-PRO Vario ND MRC-Nano still the best around?

Yeah it's too new to show up secondhand just yet in any sort of quantities.
But you can find the Viltrox DC-X3 on Aliexpress and B&H:
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1842381-REG/viltrox_dc_x3_6_touchscreen_hd_monitor.html
Yup, sometimes there are moments in time when there are leaps forward in tech / affordability, such that it no longer makes sense to buy secondhand.
For instance when the OG BMPCC went on sale for $500 it killed any reason whatsoever to buy a secondhand BMCC EF (in my personal opinion).
Nope, but I've got a very old OG SmallHD 702 that's given up the ghost, and I would like to replace it.
And from the research I've done recently, then the Viltrox DC-X3 seems like the best option right now. The only reasons I haven't pulled the trigger just yet is because:
    1) only just recently came to this conclusion from doing the research into it, so still thinking over it, and I'm trying to spend less on gear in 2025. And I don't need need it just yet. Because I can just kinda get away with peeking at the other monitors at video village on a small budget shoot. Plus I have an old SmallHD Focus monitor, but it lacks loop through and lacks SDI 😕 However I have an HDMI to SDI converter. Clunky, but "works".
    2) I quite like the 7" size of the 702, and if anything I'd rather go bigger than smaller with the 6" Viltrox DC-X3. However as a smaller level Production Sound Mixer I'm not sure I can truly justify the costs of a 10" SDI monitor. The leap up in price from 6" or 7" to 10" is quite significant, seems my only cheap option would be the Lilliput A11? So I dunno, haven't really decided yet if I'd rather go for the cheaper Viltrox DC-X3 (and better features/quality) vs the bigger and more expensive Lilliput A11.
    3) spending money for a new monitor then opens the door to spending even more money... as I go down the slippery slope of "well, now I should upgrade / get more SDI cables?" then "but what about getting an SDI wireless transmitter? Some of these new ones look very tempting..." And before I know it I'm a few thousand dollars into monitors/cables/wireless/batteries/mounting/accessories/etc
    4) with how common just casting video over WiFi is these days, maybe I could simply just live with dedicating one of my tablets to only this task and getting a cage for it? (to protect / mount it with) Am not focus pulling with it! So I can "live with" a small delay.

They're going after Leica wannabes, something that Olympus had done time and time again back in the days of Maitani Yoshihisa, a well-documented Leica lover.

There are actually 22 cameras as the S5D needs adding to the full frame count and the Leica T, TL and TL-2 to the APS-C count.
There has been a 23rd camera announced which is still yet to actually hit the shelves yet which is the Lumix AW-UB50 box camera.
Of course, its stretching a point a bit with the T/TL/TL-2 as they have been discontinued but then again so has the CL, which means there is no currently produced APS-C L mount camera.
However, it wouldn't surprise me to see Sigma fill that void.
