AF is not that bad at all though I don't use it....I did however play with it to see...the real problem IMO is people want to bypass the skills to operate a camera this complex and essentially want a feature loaded GH5 that acts like a point and shoot....the gimbal issue comes up a lot...the sollution, unless you're Martin Scorsese, making Goodfellas, shoot shorter takes and employ some of the skills steadycam operators have used for years...like locking focus in manual mode, and then maintaining a constant distance from the sublject....or using a lens in the case where this is impossible with a short infinity distance and shooting away...for those complaining about GH5 AF on gimbals, I suggest viewing some steadycam reels on Vimeo or YouTube....and try to imagine the obstacle course the operators are navigating to achieve their incredible results....without AF and a camera setup that weighs between 25 and 45 lbs...in other words, stop blaming the camera and developer your own skills....for run and gun, either learn to focus manually or put up with what it can do, which is not as bad as reported...with AF the skill lies in where you can use it with this camera and where not.

The other aspect to the GH5 that's more rarely discussed but very relevant if you use the camera for production, is when you shoot in Prores HQ in 10bit 4:2:2 at 800mbps to SSDs you now have the image of a serious production camera IMO...yes...you add the mass off Vmounts, a rig, and an external recorder, but on sticks you now have a camera that still weighs far less than the big boys, but delivering IQ for any use, with large focus and exposure tools, and yet, can be stripped down to a small package rather quickly, for shooting in a location where say discretion is advisable...I love the modular nature of what many consider Frankenstein rigs...

+100 @jonpais....the GH5 is not a buy and shoot out of the box camera...it really is a complex and professional tool...like any of the Cinema cameras this is easy to get out of focus or poorly exposed footage with that will then look like crap...but for a crew, or an individual who gets it right, this is hardly a "prosumer" camera...it's just priced as one...

The original RED one was only rated at 9 stops maximum by DPs once it was out in the field....to talk about the GH5 with ONLY 12 stops, means that if it  had 14 stops, that person would just have something else to complain about....oh wait....there is....the terrible AF??

Yes...but they also weigh 20+ lbs, so you have the weight on your shoulder to keep things steady for handheld...IBIS effectively turns the GH5 into a 20lb camera without the weight...as for image degradation, early concerns expressed were that the IBIS would cause excessive heat which makes the sensor noisy...heat is clearly not a problem for the GH5 series...I've not read any thread that claims to decernably prove that IBIS degrades the image on either the GH, G or GX camera series.

Yup.  I think the main reason the LS300 didn't take off was simply due to JVC not being taken seriously in this space. Their pro rep is solidly in broadcast, and even their consumer camcorders were never anything special. So people looking for an affordable large-sensor camera from above or below just don't have JVC as a contender in their minds.
Panasonic doing the APS-C sensor + m4/3 mount would have turned a lot of heads. Especially if they had included a nice solid m43-EF adapter that had the option of bolting to the camera body, for those who would just want to run the camera as strictly an EF mount.
Maybe in a year or two they'll figure this out, and a new camera can slot into the wide space between the GH5 and the EVA.

@Laurierperhaps you can clarify why you need a 1st AD on a fashion shoot and why a camera saves you from having to use a 1st? ....Does this mean you still use a 2nd and I'm curious about what they would do on a non narrative project!

Mercifully those were the pre-forum days☺️☺️I remember clearly getting new speakers and the 2 days later hating how they sounded...on many occasions....mercifully I got to wallow in my misery in isolation!...it was a time that taught me valuable lessons though, that serve me well today with my film gear "problem"...luckily mine  is a "lens problem"!!!....I'm very happy with the cameras I buy and also with Panasonic!...both in terms of their products they put out, but possibly more importantly, who they are as a company...and how they respond to feedback from their customers. Voting with one's wallet is one of the few ways consumers can excerpt some power.
