jase got a reaction from mercer in One Lens?
I have always been this "only one lens guy". Started with the Voigtländer 25, which happened by chance because i wanted a f0.95 for MFT. Learned to use MF and loved it. Then I wanted more, switched to an A7S with the Canon 35mm 2.0 IS - but the package was too big for me somehow. Now i went back to small via LX100 to RX100. And although i love both of these cameras and the versatility of a zoom lens, i have very mixed feelings. First of all, i absolutely hate fly-by-wire lenses. Full stop, they just suck - focus pulling is not really possible. I have shot many small clips with just that 25mm Voigt and I felt never limited. Nowadays i love to have a zoom but on the same time it makes me lazy and reduces my creativity.
Seriously, the Voigtländer is the perfect lens, wasnt it a tad too big for me. On the other hand the size made it perfect for me. While filming i had both hands on the lens, since the GM1 weights nearly nothing. No need for any stabilisation, it just works. All-in-all, i love those packaged monsters like the RX100 and the LX100, however i do miss my GM1 combo with the Voigtländer. Always keep thinking of it. So much i might just buy it again and maybe this time with the GX80. And then i will never ever open this forum again, because it drives my GAS nuts.

Same here. I have the FCPX plugin version. First i do all the editing, then start grading. I also bought Color Finale, but I have to admit that FilmConvert really is sufficient for me with their included tools. Usually i tend to bring the shadows down to zero and the highlights to 100, most often i find myself leaving the mids untouched. And i nearly always use FJ SuperX 400, bring the grain a bit down - depending on the original footage. I always use Super35 grain.

Sure, as soon as the time allows it.
I'm waiting to get my hands on RX10M2...all cool.
Yup, hoping the increase in recording quality is being considered. I'm doing my best to improve the results based on what is possible.

My question is is the gyro calibrated?  From reading the description of your problem, this could very well be it.  After you balance it, you have to calibrate the gyro or it's gonna freak out.  They should really emphasize that the gimbal will not work properly unless it is.  I'm just going to guess that the H2 needs calibration as well.  And even calibrating properly requires some digging into Pilotfly's youtube channel.
I think the gimbal manufacturers need to get off of the idea that a gimbal should work out of the box.  I just really can't see how they can come up with a device that's going to support the whole spectrum of bodies of lenses with just 3 preconfigured profiles.  It's just not going to happen.  I think that's the problem with the Came TV Single.  There's are some people who got really lucky and it actually worked out of the box, then there are a lot of people running around with terribly unbalanced and uncalibrated gimbals and they are relying on the batteries to compensate (thus the really poor battery life for some), and there are just people who return them because it just doesn't work for the configuration.
In my experience, PID settings really don't seem to change much of anything unless they are grossly miscalibrated.  The buzzing and the freaking out from my experience is from the lack of gyro calibration and improper  balancing.

I still don't get why anyone is using auto white balance. I see 3200K 5600K and rarely 4300K and that's it.

On the G7, I was setting them to 100, but now I dropped it to 95 on zebra 1 and 75 on zebra 2. I assigned the zebras to function 2 and now just cycle through them when necessary.

I found switching to 70% brought a huge improvement in general quality for me, focussing on people instead of some small patch of sky in a window in the corner of the frame (for example) I think gives much better results..
70% zebras plus simple histogram is also a great combination

Be careful when using zebras at 100%, because the zebras on some cameras are misleading in that they "sum" the color channel levels to determine if the threshold has been reached.  In such scenarios, the zebras don't indicate when a single color channel has breached the threshold.  So, if one sets the zebras to 100%, one (or two) of the color channels could be blown out, and you might not see a zebra.  If the camera also has an RGB histogram, one can get a good idea of how the zebras handle individual color channels.

Personally, I tend to set the zebra higher on raw and on some flat/log profiles.  I often ETTR when shooting raw.

jase reacted to Don Kotlos in Panasonic GX80 - 5 Axis IBIS works on video!
"Most impressively, Panasonic says that the IS continues to work in all 5 axes when you're shooting 4K video - the first camera we can think of that does this. The digital component of IS used in video requires the camera to read lines off the sensor above and below the standard output region, then use gyro sensors to predict where on the sensor the original framing is now being projected. Most sensors can't read out a large enough section of the sensor fast enough to stabilize 4K video, but the GX85 claims to do so."

    Sorry for typo...I meant s35, not s16.
You could mount/adapt many s16 lenses to an EF mount, but due to flange focal distance you would not hit infinity (or even close). It would work for extreme macro work though

Well, funny part is that the "look" was accomplished simply by adding FilmConvert. This was in the days where my experience was nearly zero.
Settings were Standard -5/-5/-5/-5 as suggested by @Inazuma. I am pretty sure this was done using AWB. Just the FilmConvert GH4 Standardprofile. I will dig up my original files over night and try to reassemble the filmconvert settings for you.

i have never used the SLR, so i cant comment on that. But what i do love with the voigt is, that (especially at 0.95) this lens is far away from being perfect with tons of purple fringing, but still a very nice picture. Every once in a while i look back at an old snapshot of mine that i took in combination with the GM1 and the Tiffen Ultra Contrast Filter and after watching i always have to resist the urge to buy that combo again. Fuck GAS.

I just got back from holiday where I travelled with just my LX100 and a 3 and 6 stop ND filter.  Such a great little camera, especially for video.  It has all the features that you could need, including excellent 4k, good Image Stabilisation, built-in time-lapse and decent HD at 50fps.  In fact, for the things I do (kids, community video), I'm not sure why I even own any other cameras.  The Raynox 250 macro converter connects directly to the filter thread (49mm) if you are into that sort of thing.
For the next iteration, I would appreciate a tilt/touch screen, a better EVF, and AF-S while recording in M mode (works only before recording - my G7 does this during recording).

Would love to see some footage with 110 lenses on the gm1? That camera, those lenses and that cool GM1 60p sounds like a killer combo.  I hear the next GM will have 4K, so that could be interesting.

Today i made some tests with dual ISO mode which lets to record with two ISOs, there is possible to gain additional 3-4 stops of dynamic range for the price of aliasing in highlights and shadows (where resolution drops by half) but midtones retains full resolution.
So, about the test - I exposted ETTR on the sky to avoid clipping, processed the files with cr2hdr and than did some grading in resolve 12. I lowered the highlights -100, shadows +100 and than raised the overall exposure + 3EV. I had to make some tweaking in nodes to avoid clipping in the bright sky after that. There was some noise in the shadows but i get rid of it with the neat video resolve plugin. I get a quite flat image so added some contrast and little bit of arri lut to the taste. And a film grain on top of that.
The sky was quite bright despite the clouds, with ETTR the car interior was very underexposed, without dual iso recovering of such amount of shadow information would be impossible.
I didnt use dualiso feature so often before but now i am more and more confident using it in some situations. In this test i used 100/800 isos, there is aliasing and moire especially visible in power lines and car interior elements but it is not very distracting and i am very satisfied with quality and especially dynamic range.
