^ Could not agree more with you!

Also, I found the BMPCC screen a nightmare to use for judging proper exposure.
The histogram doesn't always show you the finer underexposed areas of your subject and I found that the BMPCC doesn't deal well with underexposure either.
Ideally you would want to use an external monitor with a (optional) LUT table if you go down this route.

Saw the suggestion about uploading in 4k vs 1080 for YouTube for better results and wanted to give it a shot.  I think it works pretty good.

Below was all 5D raw and the last half was shot with the XC10.

I think this proves just what a one-off the 1DC has been. Canon and Nikon obviously don't want to make a high-quality 4k DSLR, going by their releases since the 1DC and also Canon's refusal to support that camera in any way with firmware updates or even a proper LUT. Surely they could do better if they tried, but they choose not to.
    Why? Market segmentation? Internal politics?

5D3 Raw is not that difficult to work with at all today.  There is only 1 step (MLV conversion) ahead of it's RAW workflow and it's easy.  Now that you have Davinchi 12 out and MLRAW viewer,SlimRAW, or Rawmagic it's so easy.  Also with Lossless Compressed cinemadng RAW files you save a ton of hd space.  Every time i get footage from it I love it.  Just don't use it for shooting events or long continuous recordings.

for me color trumps everything, and the DEEP rich color from 5d3 raw is unparalleled; ive never seen video from ANY camera that matches it in that regard – naturalistic yet amazingly beautiful
thats awesome hmcindle that clip looks official. how did you find the reliability of ml on set? any issues to be aware of? assuming its not april fools day that is lol

Finally I could spend some (very limited) time outside and also some time to hack it together:
Not the best that I could do but gives some additional impression over the capabilities of the XC10 in bright daylight.
Here's a photo of my XC10 ENG configuration that has been tested and hopefully soon will see some real action for a report:

    Cheers!

Went to a race track. Only had about two hours, no tripod, no credentials to get closer to the track or a decent microphone.
But I still wanted some video from it.
    Thank god for the camcorder
Would be really fun to bring a good mic next time, get credentials and do some reporting as well.
Simply didn't have the time for preparation or at the track.
Oh well maybe by winter I have time for my hobby again

Still haven't had time to shoot anything for more than 30 min. Hopefully next week.
So I took it for a quick run when I went to the store.

Wanted to see how the XC10 worked under really bright conditions in C-Log using just the built in ND.
    The C-Log has a base of ISO500.
No highlights where blown when making this video.

The 'Killer App' for the C300.2 is the autofocus with all Canon lenses. Having fast + accurate autofocus is a huge time saver. Canon's color science for skin tones is also excellent. While I've learned to grade the FS700 to look decent for skintones, for the last couple months I've been shooting lots of stills with the 5D3 and really appreciate the excellent skintone quality compared to Sony color science (I'd never use a Sony for stills for a paid shoot (other than perhaps landscape / not skintones)).
For pro/paid work the C300.2 is probably worth the extra $8K over the FS7. An excellent comparison would be the C300.2 vs. FS7 where time to color grade skintones is also factored in. Time is money, and over time the extra cost of dealing with funky color science reduces profit. Additionally, there are cases where it's just not possible to get great skintones from Sony color science when one has limited time to color grade. If tests show that the FS7's skintones can hang with the C300.2, that will make the C300.2 less appealing, however Sony's autofocus on Sony lenses doesn't appear to be in the same league as Canon's C300.2 autofocus. Getting great skintones with faces in perfect focus in 4K with little hassle are very strong features with no competition at any price right now.
Regarding a video-look: I noticed that too- would expect a different grade to look more cinematic: it's really about lighting and light response+behavior, not lenses and sharpness. An overly sharp image with too much brightness in the mids & highs along with lack of grain makes an image look like video. Provided the highlights aren't clipped, this can be quickly fixed in post (with a preset / LUT (+ grain if desired)).
Canon lenses can look very cinematic: 24-105 F4L and 5D3 ML RAW: https://vimeo.com/92437795

Yes, sharper than 1080p, but we're talking 4K here: it's supposed to be 4x the resolution, you need to raise your bar a bit. 4K out of say NX1 puts this to shame. Going by the footage jpfilmz posted, it almost looks like there's a diffusion filter (it has the soft, misty look even if more detailed than 1080p)...unless the jpfilmz crew actually slapped on a filter of some sort. Or it's just the usual Canon soft look.

I'm inclined to agree with tugela's appraisal of the camera for the most part.  Most of these shots were over exposed and relied on the auto focusing system to pull focus.  I wish I had more personal time to shoot on it during the wedding vs the lesser experienced shooter because if not properly exposed the footage will be softer than normal...but not h264 soft.  You have to set the ND filter and then dial in the exposure and ISO and it's not intuitive.   It's no where near as sharp as GH4 4k footage.  I also agree with the Johnnie Behiri review of this camera in that you have to fiddle with it to get the best footage out of it.  I don't dislike the footage but I definitely would not recommend it as a primary camera.

I rented the XC10 to use to supplement 5D Raw and the Blackmagic Pocket cam on a wedding shoot this past weekend to see how it would preform.  It was used mainly on the DJI Ronin M and handheld in some instances.  I have a ton of footage from it. Some in 4k and some in HD.
    - First lol...the lens does NOT slide out if pointed straight down
    - Clog is my favorite shooting profile.  I would not bother with the others.  It grades pretty well. I had a semi newbie manning the XC10 while i shot on the 5D just incase there was a issue with magic lantern.  The auto focus worked well however the guy filming with it did "not always properly expose".  So there was some blown highlights and I was pissed.  Clog surprisingly allowed me to pull some of it back to an acceptable level in post .  When properly exposed the camera can capture some really nice images.
    - Low light was not 5D level but it wasn't terrible either.
    - HD is really nice and sharp.
    - Audio was recorded with a Rode Stereo Videomic X
    - Lightly graded in Adobe Premiere CC
    - Some audio is muted for privacy
    - 4K compressed down to 1080 starts @ 5:00 - 6:30

Here some of the footage from it.

I get it if you don't like it. It doesn't work for me on some levels, but if you claim to be an Indy filmmaker and rip this a part, then seeing the accomplishments of the one doing the ripping seems like a fair request.
I mean, it's a labor of love sort of thing, so it deserves a bit of leeway, right?

Kung Fury is most creative and fun film I've seen since Napoleon Dynamite.  Here's the link -  a Swedish film funded by Kickstarter - here's a link to the full film.
Basically it came out of nowhere - made by David Sandberg for no money just with his friends and raised on Kickstarter up to $600k for a 30 minute film that beats pretty much every Hollywood action comedy I've seen in the past 20 years.  And all in 30 minutes.  It's just a pure idea that's hilarious and so well made and thought out.  He took his skills from music videos and created something more creative and brilliant than made by a much larger budget like Mad Max: Fury Road.  With a more realized world, better script, and more interesting characters.
Here's a behind the scenes look at the film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReYHl8SPVfM
It doesn't look like much to make it - just guys on a greenscreen - and it oozes personality and character.
You don't need hundreds of people and studios behind you to be creative - just a little idea.
That fat girl is David Sandberg.  He circumvented the whole world of Hollywood and made a better Hollywood movie than Hollywood could make.
You don't need hundreds of screenwriters and rewrites and famous actors and egos - just one vision - one idea - and a bunch of friends, and a little bit of money.
The internet allows this to happen.  The Internet allows anyone a fighting chance.  It is decentralized.  Gabe Newel, the CEO of Value talks about this - if you have a good idea, it will get out.  Word of mouth.  It just gets out.
So next time you make something, anything - just make it good.
Put all your money into making it good and the Internet will take care of the rest.
The film is a trojan horse - it seems silly but the message is simple - "Hollywood - with all your focus testing and test screenings and computers you can't overcome something simple - film is about storytelling and mood and following the vision of a director or small-knit group of friends. You have become lost and distant to what is possible in the modern era."  With more films like Kung Fury becoming successful, I now have renewed hope in the future of filmmaking.  Boring and unremarkable films like Ex Machina and Chappie and the Avengers 2 of the Hollywood machine can go far, far away and real passionate auteurs can make their films from anywhere just with going straight to the people, who are much more intelligent than Hollywood gives the world credit for.

People talk some nonsense on here about stuff they clearly don't do.
I shoot drone footage... I shoot alot with the goPro in narrow mode to avoid the awful fisheye. It is roughly 30mm eqv, so the guy laughing about using a 35mm eqv is talking shite.... Especially when you realise the XC10 is actually 27mm eqv
Then the guy saying it would need a rig similar to that capable of holding an Epic. The XC10 is 2.3lb fully kitted, slightly heavier than a gh4 with lens. We have rigged up GH4s and BMPCC on a Droidworx 4 rotor many times.
Now whether the GH4 is better will be determined by V-log and rolling shutter tests... but impossible to say, at this point, that GH4 is better. 12 stops and 4:2:2 will take some beating... and I think the smaller sensor will help rolling shutter... time will tell.

Why can't people wrap their head around the idea that their needs are not the same as others.
One of my needs is for a very light, high quality 4K camera that can fit on a small quad copter... hex at the most. Canon checked alot of my boxes,,, Though rolling shutter will need to be tested, The BM Micro is also very interesting to me, yet wont tick many boxes for you narrative guys, yet no tears about that.
Big cameras like the FS7 don't do it for me, as I travel and shoot as light as possible... I don't sit and moan about Sony though, just because it is not for me.

If you want to strap a "cheap" 4K camera onto drone, car, gimbal (or pool cue!) what are the options, right now? Especially if you need good image, AF and IS. NX1 is pretty heavy, GH4 doesn't have any IS or good AF... Neither have 12 stops (V-log might change that).
The idea that it is just some badly thought out ENG camera leaves me scratching my head a bit.... It is clearly meant to be a bigger GoPro/crash cam, for people who care about image quality.
