The picture comparison made me laugh! For your home scrap book, the canon is fine, its a complete mess, but fine. However, if you showed them to a client...they'd tell you to throw away the Canon shot & boost the saturation on the Sony.
If you do a comparison between 2 cameras, then you really need to level the playing field (use standard profiles on both cams, as was said above). I'm with you on Canon colour, but between the 2 pics, i'd go for the Sony (with some tweeking) or just take another go at the Canon one, so it looked better. The other problem, is that at the moment people are edging towards that neutral look (as in the Sony pic) - doesn't make it right, but if you want to make a living.....

    The good things first :
1.finally an article about a camera comparison with a video, haven't seen that in a while here.
    2. Seems like a good combo (good stills camera with decent video, however lacking resolution.) thought for the price it should be, and that's about it with good points.
    the bad :
    1. PRICE, for real ? are we seriously even considering to compare a 6000+ camera to a 2400 one ? the price is just astronomical (people buy cars for their families for this price)
    2. easy pleasant COLOR - :D this made me laugh. So you are saying that this camera gives you awesome color straight out of the box, no need to edit, yeah perfect, the thing is I dont know any pc (under another 5000)  that would even be able to edit that mjpeg 500mbps shit. AND this is a subjective matter. Andrew you forgot to mention that Chris and Jordan specifically said that many many times over in the view that this is purely subjective. Moreover they are testing sub 2000 cameras with some being much less. Honestly i disliked the color in that video, oversaturated, punchy, crushed blacks, frankly this video is far from pleasing on account of colors and DR. bleh but that is just me. some may love unnatural red over saturated punchy color.
    3. DR - do you honestly think that this footage with the edit you did has better DR than a7s ... suddenly it's no issue ? the footage looks like it's from a 7d.
    4. Crop factor 1.3 IS NOT full frame. Everyone being disappointed  by 1.6-1.7 on 5d IV and 1.3 on a 6000 body is okay ? please.
    The awful:
    5. That thing is enormous. good luck stabilizing that. (another rise in costs)
    6. No articulating screen
    7. No focus peaking on a body for 6000 ? lol
    8. 8bit for 6000 ? lol
    9. Codec
I mean, if anyone is doing sports photography and can justify the price, go for it sure, for video ? you'll be back to ILCS or real 10bit cameras in few weeks after using this dinosaur
oh and i forgot , the ugly :
    10. EF mount
Cheers, meant no offense thanks for taking time to review, keep them coming !!!

I have to agree with jcs on this one - the Canon looks great out of camera but I was curious about the A7S II still so I messed with it in PS for a few minutes and came up with this. Not a dead on match but not bad either.

Horrible 24 hours in the States.
We have a new Orange president.
What does this mean for Canon, Red, Panasonic, Sony, Arri?
    Well the dollar may crash.
Maybe it won't - actually seems like it won't.
So no one knows what's going to happen to trade.
Will it help Red that manufactures in the States?
    Again, who knows?
One thing we do know - this was a useless post.

I have done some measurments of recording times with the newest build (with fine resolution settings)
Everything tested with 24fps 10bit on 5d3 113, CF sandisk extreme pro 128gb 160mb/s. 1320 is the maximum vertical resolution for 5d3 when recording raw video.

    3168x1320 2.40:1 (1.81x crop) - 14 sec

    3104x1320 2.35:1 (1.85x crop) - 18 sec
    3104x1298 2.39:1 (1.85x crop) - 21 sec

    3008x1280 2.35:1 (1.91x crop) - 38 sec
    3008x1258 2.39:1 (1.91x crop) - 56 sec

    2976x1266 2.35:1 (1.93x crop) - 60 sec
    2976x1246 2.39:1 (1.93x crop) - 123 sec

    2880x1226 2.35:1 (2x crop) - continous

And wider aspect ratios - just for fun:

    3520x1320 2.67:1 (1,63x crop) - 6 sec
    3296x1320 2.50:1 (1.74x crop) - 12 sec

Now I would like to see the comparison: 5d3 vs 5d4 - raw 10bit 3008x1258 (quite usable recording time - 56 sec) vs MJPEG 8bit 4k. Not so much different crops - 1.91x 5d3 vs 1.7x 5d4. Similar bitrates. That would be very interesting.

I have almost exactly this.  The Tascam DR-10CS with the Senn ME2.  Its pairs really well.  Very clean and loud.  Gets the job done.  But overall if you're an audio snob there its more of a utility mic than a mic for someone looking to capturing the endearing nuances in someone's voice.
If I were to vlog like Casey Neistat, I would do it with a Oktava MK 012 with a hypercardioid capsule powered by a irig pre with a Rode SC3 adapter straoght into the 80D.  And for interviews on a budget I'd get a cheap boom for the Oktava and and a XLR extension for the same setup.  It may look a little wonky, but it would sound a million times better than a Rode VideoMic.

I know it might sound like a crazy idea but...
The new EosM (5) is a mirrorless 80d and you can use a Speedbooster for your Full Frame look.
Still don't know if the AF is as good but it could be a great B cam.

Yi will definitely shake up this industry for sure.  But keep in mind it's 1st gen.  The chances of it having (or not having) something that's a dealbreaker is likely 100%.

Or just go with a Blackmagic Pocket (+Speedbooster) if the portability is crucial to you.

Get a samsung nx500 for portability, hack it and you'll have h.265 at 180mb/sec. Then buy a nxl focal reducer to be able to use canon ff lenses (and many from other brands) on it with a 1.1x crop.

I say if you're comfortable with your gear and you feel it offers you creative flexibility, stick to it.
Have a conversation with the station manager.
Send the broadcast station some of your work, have one of their goofball engineers scope it out, and just go ahead and ask for the special permission.  Broadcast specs are guidelines.  If it looks good and the story is good, they'll make exceptions.  If they don't, then there's something wrong with them not what you're providing them.  Good craft and story should trump limited specs.
You should see the stuff that's presented on the local PBS station where I'm at.  The fact that they shoot on "pro" cameras is irrelevant.  Bad shooting is bad shooting.
And if you're doing great audio then that already makes it better than most, so see what they say.

C100markII or C300(I or II) seem like a safe bet, very easy to use, the C100 is rather small as well (not M1 territory, but still), but you have to be specific with your codecs, C100 par example has a much lower bitrate than the afforementioned one.
You have to ask specifically what cameras do they accept, it will be a petty to create technical obstacles for no reason, and M1/2 are rather bad video cameras, you can easily surpass them and got better results.
Do you have a site? Your story sounds really optimistic and worthfollowing.
    Goodluck!

Finally arrived from Park Cameras today after they kept inexplicably delaying its dispatch!
I've sold all my other cameras now except the Nikon D5500 so can't do any direct comparisons but the rolling shutter at 4k definitely looks better than it did on the a6300
Some quirks I've found so far:
Dynamic Range and Noise Reduction options are locked to defaults in video mode. When in manual focus mode, can autofocus using the AF-L button before recording but not during.  Can't set a custom whitebalance in movie mode (as in, the mode where you point the camera at a white/grey object).  No bitrate options. All recordings are at 100mbps. That's it for now. Looking forward to doing some shooting with this camera!

    Nice write-up.
I just bought an X-T2 (in a small shop in Venice where I am shooting and holidaying!)
We'll see what it can do here, as it's a pretty photogenic place, quite demanding on dynamic range with all the narrow walkways and bright sun.
I find Pro Neg Std does seem to lift the shadows nicely and sharpness all the way down + using 180 degree shutter helps with cinematic motion candence.
The footage out there so far hasn't been very impressive as not many people are buying it for video.... yet?
The only annoyance I have so far is that they removed the video record button and to switch between video & stills mode is now on the drive lever, which is an awkward bastard of a dial to say the least - not sure what they were thinking ergonomically with that one!! You cannot assign video to a funtion button or enter video mode in the blink of an eye. It takes a fiddle with the lever and an accidental turn of the ISO wheel...hmm.
Am shooting via a passive Canon EF adapter at the moment, don't have my NDs or Fuji glass with me but at night I'll be shooting wide open at 1/50 anyway.
What this thing offers over the Samsung NX1 appears to be a few advantages -
    - Fuji glass
    - Not discontinued
    - Better at high ISOs
    - Better EVF
    - Smaller
    - Speed Booster compatible (although a third party one is in the making for NX I've yet to see what the performance is like)
That last point is very important as it turns the X-T1's 1.74x crop factor to 1.23x - similar to the Canon 1D C, with a huge range of full frame glass - A Mount, Nikon, Contax Zeiss, Canon FD, etc.
So if we consider the X-T2 as a near-full frame A7R II replacement with the colour science and ergonomics fixed, for half the price, I think it's looking like a front runner.
I'm off to shoot and find out!
