Red was pretty important in the shift of the industry.  They effectively, along with the Canon 5d Mark II lowered the price by hundreds of thousands of dollars of cinema cameras.  They also kind of spurred the movement where younger nontraditional people could advance faster to positions of directors of photography.  So they have that to thank for - and I own two red one mx.  They are a fascinating company. Jim Jinnard is a fascinating leader - he is like the weird billionare guy on "Silicon Valley" or like Mark Cuban - and he made the company pretty exciting.  He is like the Commandant from "Beasts of Nowhere" - kind of a bully, but a father figure.
But now it seems like Blackmagic design is disrupting the system with Resolve and their cameras.
Also now Sony is back into the game.
And Arri has survived the transition to digital from film.
I think on a nerdy level it's all pretty interesting.

DVX user - been around forever. Odd mix of experienced guys and newbie-kids posting about how to screw more junk onto their "rigs".
There are guys in the audio forum that really, really know their stuff and are very helpful. Key & Peele's DP posts long, detailed breakdowns of how many of those skits are shot, immense amount of ideas for doing quality work very quickly. And then a zillion posts about "should I get this amazon 3-light 100 watt flo setup to shoot my zombie feature film".  So, kind of the usual.
I've posted my DIY HMI projects there and gotten into some good discussions; there's a ton of stuff there going back for years if you search.

The problem with these forums is the fact people from so different origin come to post and say anything as it is the most consensual truth. As matter of fact, experience speaks on our behalf. We can't put some worker with one, two or more decades of experience in the same basket of some young fellow anxious to see the bird out of the cage. I'm sorry but that's what it is. Our actions speak by itself. To infer some manufacturer has some trouble because didn't post any sample footage in half dozen of days, only pops up as evidence of it. Instead.

I sometimes hide the fact that I use Android together with windows phone since Android users tend to be so fanatic and almost like a cult.
And I guess thats why the iphone gets so much hate for not being first with 4k.
Same thing will happen if the 5Div gets 4k. It will be endless battles about how Red, BMD, Panasonic and Sony already did it.

Good grief. Cleaned up the latest round. It will be the last because now the first posts from new users go into a moderation queue for approval and until the content is approved they can't post anything further.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. If you dont know what you are talking about, just leave it and dont scare other people. This is just an automated bot that created account(s) and post(s).
My suggestion for the future would be, that an admin needs to approve a newly registered user. By doing so, the user would not be able to post directly - however, if he is a true (and valuable) user for eoshd, he/she would not mind at all.
not at all since passwords are stored encrypted in the database of the IPS system. @ken: now you see the consequences of your post. thanks for that.

Having the camera for more than a month, I can say I agree with David's review on all the points that he made. And I have been very critical, trying all this time to find a reason to return it. Just can't, its a great camera.

As far as possible to understand, yes. The heat comes from the processing for 4K recording and the compact design, not the sensor.

I wont say anything for sure before either using both or seeing alot of footage from both.
But if I was to guess based on current available gear, gear Ive used, specs like compression as well as hardware specs, etc.
The URSA will win in Image Quality, price and usability.

Speaking of other cameras from this company, it seems if you want an external microphone coupled to the camera* (only with internal microphone), you'll need to add something like a dedicated USD 1,750.00 accessory.
PS: "available for the WEAPON or REDRAVEN camera system"

The beef of them with RED is the fact the company has a policy of overpriced accessories when the initial idea was to disrupt the industry. Jarred still uses the line. At a certain point, companies like Sony or Panasonic became more client friendly than the one used to make the rules of the business change.
They succeeded to launch a camera that placed the offer for a fraction of the supply then. The infamous 103,000.00 F900 rate reduced to the promising $17,500 for identical formatting of a digital cinema camera body! Almost ten years later, the market model is not the same anymore. Panasonic offers professional recording 10-bit 4:2:2 option for free in their consumer line (hence YAGH, not AF200 as proof of it), Sony has resisted but outputs 4:2:2 even though still* 8-bit and sells a cine zoom lens under $2,500. A good part thanks to RED, true.
Actually, sad to see now the same company playing the same role usually performed by the giants of this sector before. Who've wisely gotten the lesson much earlier than that one to still keep trying to preserve the current mainstream instead. Bizarre. Innovation was replaced by hold the line attitude. That's what HFR 8K is, at an unfriendly indie rate. 4K4all tag (by RED) accordingly. It is a pity. BMD is the only winner over here. And their clientele, of course.
I know some RED early adopters who work and live for buying the yearly updates. Where's the obsolescence obsolete concept? Only in the marketing. All these tricks have annoyed serious non'sheep people as for instance Ed who has been a voice against it. Along the years, I've seen a few others to follow the track. Some of them I personally brought to RED. Hence my inner POV and, sorry who can dislike it, also educated from inside.
    E :-)

    * Unfortunately, RED is out of the game where BMD can help to make FFC's dream even more real than today.

The big Ursa is just too heavy and cumbersome. As for Twixtor, I will be using it to get from 120fps to higher frame rates, assuming that it does a better job than Ravens shitty 2K 240fps. lol
