Emanuel reacted to Brian Williams in Fuji X-H1. IBIS, Phase Detect 4K beast?
Well I liked the E-M1ii quite a bit, but knowing that the GH5 had 10bit, 400mbps ALL-I kept gnawing at me (even though I had no issue with the video I was getting from the E-M1ii), so I ended up switching. And the GH5 I quite liked as well, though its AF was definitely a step down from the phase-detection on the Olympus, so again I'm never happy. But everything was fine, until the A7iii was announced, for basically the same price I paid for the GH5, and it just seemed to be by far the smart choice all around. And I've owned quite a few Sony's, and besides the rolling shutter and boring erogomics, the picture and AF was always solid. The problem is the waiting for the A7iii to come out, I start seeing all these rave reviews of the Fuji, a company I also love quite a bit, so here I am.
I think it comes down to the fact that I can't afford more than one camera, so I want to make sure I'm getting the best deal for the price (which is completely relative and unobtainable). I really had been doing quite well with sticking to one camera for the past year or so until a few months ago...

All true, I guess I'm just coming off my few months of GH5/E-M1ii ownerships where I was truly spoiled in that regard.

Emanuel reacted to Tim McC in BMPC 4k vs. GH5
I had the same question a few months ago, and ended up going with the GH5. I was specifically attracted to the anamorphic mode to use with a 2x lens (Sankor 16c + SLR Magic Rangefinder). The GH5 is the first camera I've used the Sankor with that got an acceptably sharp image. (And I don't have to cut off the sides, I can see the image de-squeezed in the camera, etc.) Yes, I would much rather have ProRes (or raw) files than the compressed codec the GH5 gives me, but the overall usability of the camera for anamorphic shooting is absolutely fantastic.

Perception is mainly the whole concept in fact.

Ditto. Another really substantive pearl coming from your posting, mate. This forum would become another thing without your insights, man : )
Filmmaking is actually not based on camera looks but mind stuff to really offer (E :-)

REAL... Well, allow me to be picky here too : ) In the narrative world as for instance (but this can apply to Docs as well, it all depends on the aesthetics approach) there's no such thing ;-)

All of them had a colorist.
My friend, my first basis for filmmaking background of my own is based on full 3-years training exactly in that field specialty (post) @ Lisbon Film School.
Film, not even digital video. For the most part of it, in those old times.

It is the magic to see something to immediately pop up from vacuum, I guess : D Fuji's mojo. SOOC is a dream to come true there. GH5S is a way further another animal... The best bang for the buck, not exactly the synonymous for the X-H1 top hat ;-)

As simple as: avoid VLog on GH series. HLG is your friend, no reason to complain :-)

Emanuel reacted to webrunner5 in BMPC 4k vs. GH5
Then why are you asking 50 questions then LoL. If you want to learn how to grade buy a BM product. IF you just want to start and go at it Don't buy a BM product. Simple as that.
Both ways work. It is your choice on how long you want it to take. If you are great at grading and have hours to shoot, buy a BMPC. You will be the Only one probably on your block to have one. The cheaper, under 2500 dollars BM cameras are hands down the easiest camera to screw up. And in a sense that is a good way to learn how to shoot and grade. But there are times you want to throw the whole damn thing off a bridge and buy a ehh, Canon, god I can't believe I just said that.

Beyond the points early I made of dynamic range and low light, the GH5 also benefits from:
IBIS
Smaller form factor
Mirrorless mount
Any one of those could be a very big factor for a person towards purchasing the GH5 instead.

Emanuel reacted to Laurier in BMPC 4k vs. GH5
I m actually seriously considering getting a Blackmagic 4k, you can get some for 750£, that stupidly cheap, I shoot a feature with one, motion and colors are fantastic compared to a GH5, its also way smaller than a Ursa mini and media is a lot cheaper.
The dynamic range is really not that bad, you can recover a lot of the highlight in post, not something you can really do with the gh5.
But yes you need fast glass, but you also need fast glass with a GH5 IMO.
Otherwise, yes it s a bit bigger and heavier.

Emanuel got a reaction from Prandi in Fuji X-H1. IBIS, Phase Detect 4K beast?
I'd much prefer to wait for Andrew's input rather than Yuryev's anyway. The guy puts some effort to deviate himself the fact he's always testing Sony tools at first hand in any case.

Yet seeing the tool as demanding on the way you have to approach to deal with it. It is like a marriage. We can't handle a 2nd wife like we did in our 1st round or we risk to still fail no matter our goodwill to work around the task. Workarounds have their own specs from their own. We don't invent them, we need to adapt them. Filmmaking is invariably a workaround, the tool is primary and secondary at the same time; never the shooter though (E :-)

IBIS is not a miracle but a tool for shaky hands. We know some of users would like to have a toaster all included, seems unlikely to happen though ;-)

The workaround in this case as far as I can see thus far is to switch it off
Honestly, this isn't about unrealistic expectations or wives or anything else - it just isn't working very well.

There are IBIS and IBIS... But something which puzzles me is the fact when we focus on the cons rather than the pros. We all know there's no perfect world out there, only on forums' wishful thinking lists :X
No one is also praising to see our neighbors to always pop up pointing the flaws of our children and be quiet about theirs, isn't it?
A bit of equity at least should be mandatory before any forum comment. BTW, no personal agendas of any kind and attacking the deepest bias of our own too...
