The word has it that there's a 18-40 and a pancake coming with it. If it does have a proper shutter and IBIS, I'll probably get it, but I need more info. I would have rather had a flip-up screen and no hotshoe though because it's just more fun (like the GX850).

If Panasonic doesn't release more pancakes and smaller affordable bodies for M43, there won't be many people going to it.

The problem is that cameras like the GM1 were too small to operate with adult hands whereas the GX85 was just big enough. The S9 looks about the same size as a GX85.

The rumor site confirmed today that there is no mechanical shutter and the pancake prime is a very slow lens cap lens.

The Mevo Plus has a 4K sensor to be fair.

    https://mevo.com/mevo-plus/

Livestream themselves have a very sophisticated product called Studio that can switch multiple Mevos but can also do the multi angle crop trick on external cameras.

Not sure it does the auto stuff though.

Its free for subscribers to Livestream/Vimeo as well but that is a $70 a month cost if not.

It does the multi cellular device bonding trick as well but only when streaming to Livestream itself.

I thought I would resurrect this thread as it looks like Logitech will be announcing a new MEVO product on the 17th with the m43 sensor/mount.  The video specs are not great but it will be interesting to see how far they take this.  The 6400mAh battery should provide a very long run time.

  3. It looks like Sony has significantly cleaned up their video noise quality.  I do wonder if this can be applied to other non-global shutter sensors as well.

Dynamic range using our Xyla21 chart and IMATEST analysis is average when compared to other full-frame consumer cameras. But as is so often the case, IMATEST results are only one piece of the puzzle looking at the dynamic range of a camera. It basically gives a feel for how noisy images are at the various Xyla stops (patches). And here it can be clearly seen that the global shutter sensor is definitely noisier than its CMOS full-frame counterparts seen in other consumer full-frame cameras.

But Sony applied some magic to the image pipeline including the codecs, as the fine noise of the sensor is conserved in the final image and shadows can be massively pushed in post without ugly larger blotches of noise. This results in a superb 9 stops of exposure latitude with some room towards 10, making it the best Sony Alpha camera to date in video mode in terms of dynamic range! It is also the best consumer full-frame camera in that regard.

What a surprise – all this from a global shutter sensor! Well, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, times are a’changin …

Panasonic Connect Co., Ltd. and Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd. (PEAC) announced today that they have decided to transfer the Professional AV business and Panasonic Visual Co., Ltd. from Panasonic Connect to Panasonic Entertainment & Communication. Foreseeing future growth in the overlapping markets for consumer and professional video production, and livevideo streaming, the move to integrate the businesses will enable the Panasonic Group to strengthen its imaging business and achieve high growth. The integration is scheduled to take place on April 1, 2024.

In recent years, the imaging market has seen increased demand, particularly for mirrorless digital cameras, due to the expansion of video production for solo creators. While on the other hand, the professional video production market, such as cinema and broadcast production, is also growing, and due to the increasing size of sensors in mirrorless digital cameras and tighter budgets for production the lines between consumer and professional video production markets are quickly blurring.

Furthermore, in the field of live broadcast and video streaming, there is an increasing demand for diverse video shooting and streaming equipment that satisfies the requirements of video creators and caters to improved video and audio quality, as well as advancements in visual expression.

In the future, there is expected to be further integration of consumer and professional video production and live-video streaming, leading to the continued growth of the imaging market.

Both companies have determined that in response to this trend, there is a need to bridge the divide between professional and consumer uses in order to provide timely and consistent support throughout the entire process from video shooting to editing and streaming, while developing products and services that exceed the expectations of video creators. To achieve this, the imagingrelated businesses spanning both companies will be integrated into one organization within the Panasonic Group.

As a result, the Group's resources in this market will be consolidated within Panasonic Entertainment & Communication, which will make the imaging business a pillar of its growth strategy and strengthen its ability to adapt to market changes and respond quickly to the needs of a diverse range of video creators,.

  5. Also, full size HDMI and USB-C 3.2 gen2.  Basically, a faster m43 sensor with the body/ processor of the S5ii.  You could easily switch back and forth between the G9ii and S5ii and not need to relearn anything.

Based on latest rumor, Panasonic will also announce a GH6X/GH7 with PDAF at the same time.

The person who posted this was a beta tester for the OM-1 and would have access to a reliable source at OM.

"From a very reliable contact at OMDS, it will be an OM1X…………aka an EM1X replacement."

The details provided by the admin at 43rumors was that the new body would have the same sensor and same battery as the OM-1.  He assumed it would be a lower price OM-1 so similar to E-M5.  The same battery and same sensor would also apply to an E-M1X replacement.  There was also mention of 15fps.  This spec was a bit confusing as the E-M5iii already supports this, but if it refers to full C-AF for the mechanical shutter then that is beyond even the OM-1.   We will get clarity as more details leak.  OM is likely trying to clear out the remaining E-M1X bodies in advance of this release.

Out of interest, where did you read that?

The rumor stuff I've seen is talking about an OM-5 in September/October, which appears to be positioned in the E-M5 iii market segment i.e. smaller, lighter and down-spec'd from the OM-1 but probably using the same sensor.

The large body E-M1X always seemed to be an aberration to me, the opposite of the traditional 'small camera body' Olympus ethos, probably driven partly by engineering necessity to get enough cooling for the dual processing chips they needed to improve autofocus performance. It's interesting (from a user demand/popularity point of view) that the used prices in the UK of E-M1X are now lower than for the E-M1 iii, despite it being a more expensive and capable camera originally.

Is the E-M1X their flagship camera?  For some reason no-one seems to understand their range and how the model numbers work.

Yes, it would be similar to the top end bodies from Canon and Nikon that have a built-in grip.  I presume it will be called OM something since they started with the OM series now.

  12. It looks like the new OM body coming this fall will be a replacement for the E-M1X. I would expect to see some additional updates to video that could also come down to the OM-1.

  13. The dpreview video mentioned and show a number of AF issues with both photos and video.  I saw lots of missed focus in the video and eye AF is not very accurate.  The 40fps photo mode drops to 15fps if you specify focus priority, otherwise you end up with lots of missed focus.  I am also seeing wobbles and jerking with the IBIS in video.

The video specs sound great but for run and gun it looks like Fuji is not there yet.

And he was I thinking 2x crop sensor cameras are dead at £2K!!

I may have to order an OM-1 as well.

You may need to wait for the next shipment. An OM UK rep mentioned yesterday that all of the OM1 bodies allocated to the UK were sold-out already and most of the body+lens kits as well.
