  1. The dpreview video mentioned and show a number of AF issues with both photos and video.  I saw lots of missed focus in the video and eye AF is not very accurate.  The 40fps photo mode drops to 15fps if you specify focus priority, otherwise you end up with lots of missed focus.  I am also seeing wobbles and jerking with the IBIS in video.

The video specs sound great but for run and gun it looks like Fuji is not there yet.

And he was I thinking 2x crop sensor cameras are dead at £2K!!

I may have to order an OM-1 as well.

You may need to wait for the next shipment. An OM UK rep mentioned yesterday that all of the OM1 bodies allocated to the UK were sold-out already and most of the body+lens kits as well.

  3. This video compares the out of camera JPEGs but also the RAW files in Adobe, CaptureOne and OM Workspace between the OM1 and the EM1iii at ISO 25600.  The RAW file comparison clearly shows less color noise and greater DR with the OM1 from all 3 RAW editors.

I also agree that the GH6 really needs to have properly implemented V-Log to differentiate from previous models. Going from V-Log L on the GH5S to full V-Log on the S1H was a paradigm shift, and I wouldn’t go backwards after having it. I don’t mind M4/3 sensors from a size perspective, but they DO struggle to implement the same imaging pipelines that often accompany larger sensors. I’d be considering a GH6 for b-cam if it had full V-Log, but without that, I’ll pass.

The skates specs leaked this morning suggests it will have V-Log and will likely be priced at $2300 US

“The LUMIX GH6 contains V-Log/V-Gamut for the first time in LUMIX G Micro Four Thirds cameras and provides 12+ stops, and even 13+ stops, of wide dynamic range using Dynamic Range Boost mode. “

  5. From the same article he posted 50MP Hand-held High-Res images that was shot at 500mm (150-400 + 1.25tc).   I am surprised it could work at that focal length hand-held.  This should bode well for most static scenes.

In the OM software "OM Workspace" yes, but not internally in-camera.

According to below google translation the person from that article was using OM Workspace to process their RAW files.

"In the software (OM Workspace, since Lightroom does not yet know the OM-1), an AI DeNoise from Topaz that has been optimized for the OM-1 is already integrated. I tried that."

  7. I was wondering when we would start to see this from Smartphones.

Dynamic range boost function: It is possible to shoot a wide dynamic range image at a maximum of 60 fps by synthesizing an overexposed image and an underexposed image in real time. Achieves a dynamic range of up to 13+ stops approaching the full size.

It has PDAF the half of forum here was raving about. And this sensor is most likely going to GH6, too. Real life performance is still a thing to check. I was hoping Jordan would give a word or two about it but no clues yet.

He is likely tied up testing the GH6 that was provided to him.  😀

I'm currently testing the new OM System OM-1 and all I can say right now is to expect some pretty great video features, some of which exceed the GH5 (no idea yet about the upcoming GH6).

Olympus IBIS has always been the best in the industry. Still is. OM System has done a great job with this camera. I am thoroughly impressed (but I hate the name "OM System").

Based on the latest rumor it looks like the name “OLYMPUS” will still exist on the front of the EVF on the OM-1.  So the Olympus name will live for a while longer.  But I guess you know this already. 😉

On M43 rumours there are murmurs of the OM having the 20MP 120fps sensor with 2 stops improvement in low light, and the GH6 apparently slated for a 25MP sensor (for the 5.7k).

I would definitely take the OM rumors with a big grain of salt.  I would also be surprised if OM goes with a 20mp sensor while Panasonic goes with 25mp.  This is around the time we would get a spec leak from Nokishita but sadly no more.
