Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place

From my local photog group The photog is one of the first to get R5 in NZ, at 15c degree (it's winter here) no overheating sign for 3hr of photo + many short clips of 4k60p video (longest was 10min) on elopement. -
Will Canon recall the EOS R5? Small first shipments

R is still a pretty good 1080p camera with good colour, i guess R5/R6/R are all 1080p cameras in heart, those fancy 4k/8k options are to be used very sparingly. -
I get a lot people praising from the photos i shot on the s10, i think Samsung's processing definitely please a lot of ppl's eye, unlike the iphone 7 plus i used to have which no one ever said anything about the photos. Wish me thinking Samsung should really continue their NX development, imagine NX2 with the software of their smartphone.. autoHDR etc will definitely taking over those Japanese camera maker and their much prehistoric thinking software.

Well at end it will be a win for us consumers. I might consider R5 again if they do fix it, no way i will buy 12mp camera again. -
So Dan retest it again for overheating, now people say he must have faulty unit, yeah definitely free pass to Sony on overheating.
-
if you want to crop in post as you do 4K in 1080P timeline A7SIII is not sharp enough tbh, 12MP is just too low for true 4K resolution.
-
Yeah, i was ready to change R5 to A7S3 pre-order, now I m back to R6 instead.
-
Yeah I can't open it too as well 😕 I might planning to get 1 next year with my other friend... time to step up become RED shooter? his other video show the DR and 0 RS when he pan to follow the action
-
Yeah, though my work horse lens is all in EF so not really concerned about it yet. Here is a compare between bmpcc6k vs komodo i saw online
-
R6 still look nicer in ISO 25600 and way sharper than A7sIII, can't really read the text on a7siii but clear on R6.

Disappointed in the Canon R6 - Coming From A Canon User

Well I got R6 pre-ordered.. C200 and R still gonna be the main workhorse, i might try borrow ninja v and see how that goes for extended shooting. -
Does A7SIII have APS-C mode in video mode? on dpreview it said NA on the spec sheet?

I might get R6 instead, the Sony yellow is still there on A7SIII, and R6's quality is way sharper than A7SIII in 4K, much better IBIS. at 25600 ISO R6 still as clean as A7SIII and sharper.. you barely can read the text on A7sIII but R6 is really clear -
TBH in more advance setup there is usually a focus puller to pull focus anyway, AF cant do all the things as there are some scenario even the best AF will struggle.
-
The ability to shoot 4K60P without crop will have to be pixel binned (like R5) or lineskipped, which the quality is quite terrible. The main problem is the 24MP sensor cant read faster enough I guess unlike Canon's 20MP sensor? Btw didnt they just announced prores raw firmware update? At least this one is widely supported unlike Sony's 16bit raw only the $3999 recorder support it.
-
XAVC S/XAVC S-I is H.264, XAVC-HS is X.265, XAVC-HS is limited to 200Mbit, XAVC-S-I up to 600Mbit, XAVC-S up to 100Mbit, really weird that Sony stick to 100Mbit on both 420 8bit and 422 10bit.
-
Sony can choose to record 422 10bit in H.264 or X.265, unlike Canon only X.265 for 10bit and Clog. Canon should really include Clog on the 420 8bit as there is not reason not to. Exactly like Samsung NX1.. few years too advanced.

Pretty sure A7SIII dont need extension unit, that one is for FX9. My old FS5 does the same too, paired with Odyssey7Q+ and it's still pretty relevant.
-
https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/09/14/atomos-announce-16bit-raw-support-for-the-sony-fx9-prores-raw-update/ that one cost $3999.. ouch Unless Atomos make a more portable one for A7SIII I dont think many ppl will use it at all, I think mostly it just there for a tick on the feature.
-
yeah, that is in h.264, h.265 is 4:2:0, same for Fuji and Zcam.
