  1. I am; should be delivered tomorrow. Main reason is it's my normal upgrade cycle time. But, even if it was a year early for me I'd still be compelled to buy it. I've been using my phone for critical pick up shots for a while now and the addition of ProRes RAW makes it even more useful for me this way. The 200mm equivalent telephoto also will be great for casual concert and event photography so I'm pretty happy all around.

  2. +7 focal length options: 13mm 24mm 28mm 35mm 48mm 100mm 200mm (+ macro) +many other goodies... Among them, genlock... via the new Blackmagic Camera ProDock (Hello 3D! Not only though... for sure) for US$295 (next time, it will come as giveaway, very likely, what else? ; ) Simply WOW etc. https://www.apple.com/iphone-17-pro/ https://www.apple.com/iphone-17-pro/specs/ https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/apple-unveils-iphone-17-pro-and-iphone-17-pro-max/ https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/apple-announces-final-cut-camera-2-0/ Nobody is talking about TBH if this isn't a game changer, I have no idea what this means anymore... : ) Where's that Coppola's little fat girl in Ohio?

    Nikon Zr is coming

I will never understand this thinking when someone likes photography or videography. Today the only true thing they are changing in phones is the camera. My 2 years old Samsung will handle all my social media or call perfectly. Why not invest in a camera and lens, that will be their for the next decade, rather than buy a new phone every 2 3 years for 1000 USD and more, that will sorry to say, never match a FF camera.

    Nikon Zr is coming

Canon managed to make a slower sensor than ZR sensor, twice the price, with less DR.

  6. The CVP test shows the C50 with a slight advantage over the R5C in the highlights (1/3-1/2 stop), but a disadvantage in the underexposure latitude, which is much noisier. On balance, this new 32mp sensor is basically equal to the R5C in the latitude test despite claims of "improved DR" at the end of the video, a claim that is never demonstrated as they don't use a Xyla chart. After all, they are retailers trying to sell you a new product! Now I'm sure someone will come along with Xyla charts and show that this camera has a DR advantage over the R5C and is closer to the R5 II. Clog-2 implementation would require that. In the meantime, I'm simply not that impressed with the C50 image or with any of the newer Canon "cinema cameras" for that matter. After the class-leading DGO sensor in the C70/C300 III, it seems that they are going backwards while the competition (e.g., Blackmagic, RED, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic) is charging ahead . . .

  7. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/live/-xwAllKdSW0?si=idF9ndnB6oNJjzKb It's an interesting talk, the DP mentions how the camera opened up lens choices for their short, from high end Panavision anamorphics to FF, S35 and even S16 glass. In that sense it really behaves like three cameras in one. Sure, the R5C also has crop modes, but the C50 adds open gate, all the desqueeze factors, and a rugged screw mount cinema build. You can also record log master on one card and baked in LUT on the second. That makes it feel like a purpose designed tool rather than a hybrid you have to adapt around.

  8. I was simply agreeing with ND64's statement that the C50 most likely has 12-bit video readout in standard FF 16x9. There is a connection between electronic shutter limitations and video readout speed, although the S35 sensor crop can allow for higher bit depth or higher readout speeds. Moreover, cropping into S35 will not reduce noise. It will have the oppositive effect. The sensor is also not dual gain like the one in the Panasonic S1II and doesn't offer any of those features. The only way you are getting more DR out of a sensor crop is to switch to a higher bit depth (13 or 14 bit). If you compare the C50 with the R5C, which has 12-bit video readout, you see almost identical latitude (4 stops over and 3 stops under) as demonstrated in the CVP review: I will admit that the C50 has a beautifully sleek design, and may be worth picking up for the open-gate mode alone, but I don't see much in the way of image improvements over the R5C that I already own. I guess it is a camera made for those who don't have an R5C or those who may need another compact body. In that case, however, I would rather go with a camera that has IBIS, high ISO performance for low light, and greater DR in highlights and shadows. These are qualities I miss in the R5C and that have apparently not been addressed in the C50.

  9. There are some ISO comparison tests with the FX3 on YT that shows that the C50 matches if not surpasses the FX3 at ISO12800. And beats it at the more usable second base ISO6400. I think ISO6400 is a much smarter second base ISO and with the 7K oversampling and bypassable NR it makes it a better camera for low light situations. FX3 still has better rolling shutter but as you say 14ms is still decent. For me personally, C50 is very exciting because of open-gate, the new simultaneous multi ratio recording, the dual menu system taken from R5C & the various resolution and codecs. All that in a FX3 form factor with XLR top handle. It's a true hybrid. The only real let down is the lack of IBIS and mechanical shutter for flash photography. As I'm on multiple lens ecosystem (Canon, Sony, Leica) I was up to now set on either R5ii, Z8/Z9/ZR or FX2/FX3ii but the C50 may pull me back into Canon. Of course this means my Sony glass will remain on my FS7 but I love Canon UI, ergos, lenses and color science. I also find Clog is the easiest to grade and WideDR the best SOOC profile. Been getting gorgeous results out of the R5 ii RAW test footage. Again the 3:2 open gate is what's tipping the scale for me personally. I jut love having that full width 3:2 image to play around in post and being able to capture 16:9 & 9:16 simultaneously is a god send for fast delivery. May also venture into anamorphic now that the camera supports all the desqueeze factors. Lack of IBIS is a bummer but I'm hoping that with the top handle and primes, I won't get much micro jitters when shooting handheld. Hopefully the IS also performs well.
