What is Lumix thinking?!
IronFilm and one other reacted to MurtlandPhoto for a topic
My take has always been that Panasonic should have prioritized a smooth m43 to full frame transition for customers. Having a blended ecosystem would help both thrive. As it is now, customers have to choose FF or m43, often with FF perceived as having most of the benefits. I think the first round of FF cameras should have had a m43 crop mode with faster readouts and frame rates. And, the mount Panasonic developed should have somehow been compatible with m43 lenses via an adapter. This might have meant messing with the flange distance which maybe reduced compatibility with other lens mounts, but ensured more people within the Panasonic system would have less switching costs.2 points -
^ if you’re interested in seeing some more recent stuff ive shot on the p4k, one or the most recent posts in the stickied lenses thread has some links.2 points

Actually, that is not a bad idea, - having the M4/3 crop on the FF sensor and better still if M4/3 lenses could be mounted with an adapter. The G9II and S5II already share the same chassis and OK, some bemoan the size over some of the previous smaller bodies, but actually with some of the bigger M4/3 lenses, they would pair up very well. And if we started with something like a 61MP sensor, plenty of size to crop into for what would be what, something somewhere around 20MP I guess (based on knowing that APSC is 26MP). I body, many lenses, so many different use cases...1 point

What is Lumix thinking?!

I am not suggesting they do it because it'd kill M43 dead and it'd mean starting from scratch, but they could in theory release 4/3 sensor cameras and lenses that would cover them for L-Mount. Again, not suggesting it, but I also can't say that I wouldn't be intrigued. I miss the small M43 lenses, but it's a really hard sell to re-invest in M43 and have two different systems. I too also always thought it was weird that they didn't have a M43 crop mode on their full frame lenses. Not that I would use it a ton, but there are times when I would (that extra reach would be wonderful) and there really isn't a reason NOT to include it.1 point -
Thanks! This video was a proof-of-concept, as when I started I hadn't really used Logic Pro before, had never written a soundtrack / score before, hadn't used any of the dozens of audio plugins I used in Logic either, and didn't really know the best way to integrate Logic with Resolve. Needless to say, I have learned a lot and will do a bunch of things differently on the next one.1 point

It gets jumped on if you import anything, at least in my experience… Anything from outside the EU, unless it’s one of those companies that ship to somewhere in the EU (and have already covered or somehow bypassed duties) and then they ship to you from an EU address. I paid €1250 for a red leather, brand new which is €200 less than someone like MPB is asking for a ‘Like New’ with only 6 months instead of the full warranty. I’ve used them a few times before and suspect they are one of these ‘we are a legit French business’…except they are more one of these ‘middle man’ outfits. Anyway, as long as it’s legit and it is, I’m good with it. I try and get most major purchases used these days and mostly manage it, but as this was cheaper than used, it made sense. I just need my ‘S2R’ now and I am done. You listening LUMIX?!1 point

Well having mulled it around in my noggin for a few months, plus based on actually owning one and shooting a wedding with it...and then selling it for another S5II for a couple of reasons, I have decided I will get an S9 again. Why? I'm pretty sure I am welded to LUMIX/L Mount (for video at least) for what remains of my career and I have gone backwards and forwards over whether I am best served by having 2 units or 3 and come to the conclusion, 3 is the magic number. If I had not recently sold my third S5II, I'd have been running with 3 of the things in 2025, but as I did sell it last month, I'm going to take the opportunity to pick up an S9 again. Why an S9 over another S5II? I have an S5II with battery grip on a heavyweight tripod with 70-200 pulling static duty. I have an S5II in a cage on a lightweight tripod with 28-70 pulling static and quick to move about duty. I need/want a roaming in hand/lightweight monopod unit I can keep on me that is super lightweight. Lack of a second card slot and no built in fan were and still are slight negatives, but the rest of the what are for me, features over the S5II make sense. Ideally I'd like those multiple frame markers and the video zoom function will make shooting prime lenses more practical and along with some other very minor stuff, makes up a compelling package for me. I've gone around the houses also regarding what lens to pair it with and initially it was going to be a used S Pro 50mm f1.4 but then for the same money, I could get a smaller and lighter Sigma 50mm f1.2, but then for less than one third of the cost, an even smaller and lighter Lumix 50mm f1.8. So that's what I am going to pair it with. Already have the Smallrig cage I saved from last time. And it's available in my corporate logo red colour so it would be rude not to also have a camera with a red body 😋1 point

Thank you for posting! @kye Nice perspectives, also lovely sound! Will need to rewatch it on my TV! I would love to see your beautiful daylight shots too in a montage! Maybe I should also get around to upload some of my summer footage. I think og p2k and m2k are delivering an honest, pure and beautiful lowlight image at their native iso 800, already in Prores 422. It's better than a GH5 in that regard iirc. The fairchild sensor is a thing of beauty, no mushy codec neither. I cannot replicate the magic with my S1H under natural light. I did a little project with it and the image looks like Eng or a Tv crime drama, no matter how I work the footage in Davinci. It could be user error of course. I wonder if the GH5s and the P4K are different in that regard despite also sporting a Sony sensor like the S line cameras from Panny. I've seen great stuff with the Pocket 4K, though only on the web so far. Maybe I"ll borrow one from a friend. Pocket 4K thread is a great read I am recalling btw. Weekend is saved.:)1 point

Fucking Leica
Pepe reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
So the SL2, very nice now it's much more affordable but turns out in my tests so far it's still fucking broken as it doesn't shoot 4K with the original battery and certain lenses... That is, Panasonic 50mm F1.4 S, Sigma MC-21 adapter, erm pretty much everything that isn't from Leica's own L-mount range. So it's quite a serious problem. I thought this was fixed with the new Q3 battery and new firmware updates, and the SL2-S was supposed to work from the outset. Now it seems the problem is more complicated than it appears when you are sold the camera. So I took the SL2 back for a test today at the Berlin store, only to be met with a lot of eye-rolling and a blame game: - Panasonic is to blame, apparently their lenses are faulty! - The customer is to blame, apparently I am an idiot who is using the wrong type of L-mount lenses - The Sigma MC-21 is to blame, and Canon too... For their EF lenses on the official Sigma L-mount adapter are so badly made that the Leica SL2 refuses to even do a burst shoot - And of course as a customer, I am not just to blame but also WRONG! Wrong knowledge, wrong approach, wrong skillset, blah blah blah. So I sent the feckers this link: https://www.eoshd.com/interview/interview-with-stephan-schulz-leica-camera-on-the-sl2-and-filmmaking/ And said, here's my interview with your boss in Wetzlar. Have a read of that... It's the battery's fault. And he said there would be a firmware update to mitigate it, and the battery grip would also be the solution to the fact that the SL2 battery is so shit it can't even power the autofocus motors at the same time as shooting 4K. Needless to say the Leica SL2 is now back at the store, and refunded after much finger pointing. Doesn't make me want to go back there any time soon. When it was run by Meister Camera, this store was a gem https://www.meister-camera.com Now it's run by Leica, what happened? A total change in attitude and staff knowledge. It's a pity they didn't just admit the problem still existed, was Leica's fault and not the customers, and then sold me their spare SL2-S which has better compatibility with the full L-mount ecosystem. I would have left a Leica customer, nevertheless the experience was so shit, even the thought of buying the EOS R5 appeals more than another SL2 now 😉 And that's a bloody flame thrower!1 point
