@Andrew Reid At least here in the US, the FX2 is $3,500 and the A7 IV is selling for about $2,500. Is it different there? At least here, I'd say the FX2 costs a lot more than the A7 IV - like, enough to just buy a pretty nice cage and a lens or two more. It'll certainly sell/move some units, but even though the rotating EVF is nice and the body has the pleasant boxy look that goes with Sony's cinema line, I don't think this would be the hybrid that I would buy at that price. A used R5C is about $3,000 and a used Z8 is about $3,200. I just don't see how this camera competes with either of them in any meaningful way... unless you have a bunch of Sony glass and want better stills than the FX3 (available used for only a little more, about $3,700 here).

I like the look of the EVF as well.

https://www.eoshd.com/news/sony-fx2-announced-a-cheaper-fx3-with-a7-iv-sensor-and-evf/ The more expensive and better Lumix S9 I wanted Panasonic to make. Loving the EVF and mechanical shutter in a proper hybrid video form factor.

I ended up redoing the balance on the crane today. I was trying to do a vortex shot or 360 spin. However the gimbal wouldn't do it, really struggled once the camera was almost vertical. I did try increasing the motor strength and all that did was give it a bad case of the shakes. So i had to watch some vids concerning vortex mode. Seems like i had the camera too low in / on the mount. It seemed to work fine in pf and L mode Once it got close to vertical it was struggling. Once i rebalanced the gimbal and moved the camera lens up and inline with the roll axis or that's where it ended up after rebalancing, It seems much improved and would perform a vortex spin. The lens is actually a little above the back axis however it seems to work ok. I can get to pretty much all the modes on the gimbal except vortex mode, the easiest way for me so far is to access vortex mode is from the zhiyun app on the phone, If i have managed to do it from the gimbal its been more good luck than good management, i'm sure i'll figure it out eventually... Once i get a bit more comfortable with this mode i'll try underslung or upside down and play with that for a bit. I have developed a tendency to work on one thing at a time otherwise it all goes pear shaped pretty quickly. I have noticed that the e-m1 breaks long shoots up into segments, roughly 3 gig sized files. I had heart palpitations when i noticed that although in resolve it seems to play fine. So no need for a defibrillator just yet.

60p cropped, HDMI RAW cropped. The S5IIx is the better choice—but I really want to see what all those shilltubers out there will have to say.

Panasonic Lumix G7 vs. S5II, used as camcorders
John Matthews replied to John Matthews's topic in Cameras
I'll credit @Andrew Reid for the look with EOSHD Pro Color. I only tweaked it a little. From what I've understood about Panasonic in that era, even their pro video division was surprised by the hacked GH2. I remember many videographers were saying the 1080p out of the GH2 was WAY too sharp and digital. Some of the hacks even offered less sharp versions. After with 4k, it didn't seem we had to worry so much about detail anymore. IBIS meant we could now actually see the detail because with no IBIS, it turned to mush. -

I think your DP friend gave you good advice. Nowadays, IBIS is way overused. Don't get me wrong, it still looks better than any shot with jitters. Recently, I've been looking for ways to simplify my workflow and shooting experience. Part of that is to use more tripod shots. -

Nice! Looking forward to seeing what you shoot with it!

Ok I bought the C500 mkII. Can't wait to create the first project with it. First tests the AF is so much smoother then my S5II, maybe not faster, but it feels more natural. As does the image. The dynamic range is not crazy better over an S5 or S5II it seems. The highlight rolloff seems smoother though. The internal Nd's are fun too.

That looks really good. The G7 has much nicer and warmer colors. For a doc-style scenario it could be a great option. Other than the obvious jello effect of the tortutre test it could stand up to any modern day camera. As we've said in this forum quite a lot: from about 2010-2018 Panny was a true disrupter in the videocamera world. -
It’s just ‘advanced juggling’… 3 balls to 4, to 5, to 6, to 7, to 8, to 9, to tea cups and saucers, to live chainsaws. Which are on fire. Welcome to Cirque du Soleil Weddings!

I admire your ability to manage so much gear at a wedding!

Thanks for the kind words, John. I remember an old friend of mine, who is a very experienced DP, once said - with regard to "unmotivated camera movement" - that you "shouldn't move without a reason". For the purpose of the camera test I just enjoyed finding the CinemaScope compositions and letting the action (a very busy location) move within the frame instead. I now have a GH5 and a S5, but my use of IBIS is still very modest - it's more useful to me to simply iron out the micro jitters in my hands than to try to emulate a gimble. -
Depending on price, I might have been interested when I was shopping for my S9 the second time round (first time black, current red) but I wouldn't trade now purely for looks as I bet the financials would work out close to €1000 not in my favour. I do wish however that more companies would launch cameras with more options than just black! For one thing, it soaks up sunlight and therefore heat in the sun/Summer, whereas something metallic like silver or titanium reflect it. The Zf has some nice colour options, particularly the stone grey and their red is much better than Lumix's S9 options which are a bit too bright.

All music at soundimage.org is now free for commercial use
Eric Matyas replied to Eric Matyas's topic in Cameras
BIG NEWS! I've created a brand new preview video that contains a sampling of my music tracks that you'll find in my Ogg Music Mega Pack. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/W7yQVscjqUM?si=wD1XqAOJ6_Lswgqw PACKS THAT GROW WITH YOU I think the coolest thing about the music packs isn't just that they keep growing as I add new tracks to them, but that Gumroad allows me to notify users so they can download the newest additions as they come out. I really like the idea of music packs that grow along with the people who are using them. 🙂 https://soundimage.org/ogg-game-music-mega-pack/ Mp3s ARE ALWAYS FREE That said, this week's new Mp3 music tracks are on my Action 2 page: "Fantasy Racing Game Menu_LoFi" "Mech Street Fighters_LoFi" "Wild West Coast Racing_LoFi" https://soundimage.org/action-2/ As always, my Mp3 tracks are 100% free to use with attribution. Enjoy! -
Panasonic is obviously trying to appeal to the more retro/classic/stylish area of the market, like it has in the past with silver/grey and black versions of some M43 cameras. Certainly looks more stylish than the plain black version (my S9 is a black and red version, which is more at the 'fun' end of the market).

Panasonic Lumix G7 vs. S5II, used as camcorders
ac6000cw replied to John Matthews's topic in Cameras
I don't know the 'industry definition' of it, but I would think a 'locked down' or 'locked off' shot is just that - the camera can't/doesn't move at all. If you pan a camera, it's a 'panning' shot (tilting is just panning it vertically instead of horizontally, so I guess comes under the same name). -
This one is probably not discounted, but oh boy looks good. https://www.l-rumors.com/panasonic-japan-announced-the-new-titanium-lumix-s9-edition/

pardon my ignorance, is it still a locked down shot if you pan or tilt while on a tripod or is it called a different type of shot ?
