  2. As FX30 owner, impossible to ignore it...
  3. Today
  4. It's not a Lumix but an update FX3 killer! : D Just arrived... FX3A, here's a crucial breakdown (from this source) : Key Differences (FX3A vs FX3) LCD Screen: The most significant change is an upgraded rear LCD screen. The original FX3 featured a screen with approximately 1.44 million dots. The new FX3A incorporates a higher-resolution LCD with approximately 2.36 million dots, the same used in the FX30. This should provide a sharper and more detailed image for monitoring and menu navigation. USB Port: Some sources indicate the FX3A features a more standardized USB-C connection, potentially replacing an older USB 3.2 Gen 1 port on the original FX3. This aims to improve compatibility with modern accessories and streamline workflows. Included Charger: The FX3A is reported to ship with a dual battery charger (BC-QZ1), an improvement over the single-slot charger that came with the original FX3. Removed Features: Some minor, largely defunct features like the infrared remote function and NFC may have been removed in the FX3A. Excluded Accessories: The FX3A reportedly no longer ships with a USB-C cable or power cord. Price: There are indications that the FX3A might have a higher price point (around $4500 in the USA) due to new tariff rules, though this can vary by region and retailer. Some UK retailers list it around ÂŁ3,599.00. $3,899.99 https://electronics.sony.com/imaging/interchangeable-lens-cameras/all-interchangeable-lens-cameras/p/ilmefx3a
  5. In my experience, if you're editing on a laptop - and especially if you want to do it while not plugged in, modern Macbooks are really hard to beat. My M2 Max is good enough that I no longer see any reason that I'd keep a desktop computer around (I still have one for gaming and if selling it wouldn't be a big pain, I'd probably do that since I boot it up about once per month). On the other hand, if you want the highest price to performance (and absolute highest performance) on a desktop computer, PC hardware is more powerful - and in many cases, you will be able to upgrade pieces instead of needing to upgrade the entire unit. As far as your proposed spec, I think you'll be unbalanced in favor of a very high-end processor and a mid-range graphics card. You might consider a somewhat lesser CPU, again knowing that upgrading in the future will be an option if needed. Do you plan to overclock the CPU? If not, there's not much benefit to a K vs non-K variant. One other consideration might be whether you plan to use any of the "AI" features that are being added to Resolve. If so, it might be worth considering one of the newer Intel Core Ultra chips (if the price difference isn't huge) since the main "benefit" of them over 14th generation is that they have a coprocessor for machine learning. I have no idea if Resolve can even use it yet, but even if it doesn't yet, it's a safe bet that BMD will add support in the near future. Anyway, that setup will be night and day faster than what you're using now. You definitely won't be going wrong with it.
  6. Oh I do have an m1 macbook lying around, but I never use it. I prefer windows. But if it works better, I might need to switch.
  7. Hi guys, So my pc is getting old around 5 years now. Playback rate is not that great in davinci resolve to the point I am losing too much time, still running an amd ryzen 1700x and gtx1080, SSD's and 32GB RAM. Not sure if there are any major breakthroughs that have sped up your editing workflow through your pc hardware lately. Thinking about getting an i9 14900k and an rtx 4070. But open to any advice! Thanks!
  8. The camera was designed to be hand held with a pistol grip but I find that it's just so heavy that I can't hold it up for a long time (It's over 2 Kg) so I tend to use shoulder mount or tripod. My latest film I'm interested in camera movements because my last one was almost entirely on a tripod so it's a nice change for me to have movement. Vancouver is such a film town (and film school town) that you see people with shoulder rigs and gimbals often. There's always somebody shooting their student film or low budget indie or skateboard film (plus the big productions with their film trucks). It's not a big deal to see here. (Sometimes you wonder if there's anyone left in Vancouver who's not making a film.)

  10. I love a good Jason bourne movie, however for my own personal use i prefer the footage be "smoother" less jarring. My fitness level sucks, if i have to run and gun i'm likely to have a heart attack. lol Never thought about a shoulder rig, for me i thought, tripod, gimbal, handheld. Personally i'm moving away from handheld. I have occasionally seen shoulder rigs at car shows or large special events. Last easter i saw one of those harness systems with the camera hanging of the front of it at a local weekend race day. Which was kinda interesting, like hey thats something you don't see everyday interesting. Otherwise shoulder rigs scream TV to me. But if it works for you that's great. On the lens side of perfection, i have a collection of vintage lenses that give me all the desirable imperfections i can want. The thing is, since i'm on mft i think i kinda lose half of that character with the crop factor anyway.
  11. I'm about 15000 kilometers away from "ground zero". Kinda glad i'm not an american right now and i feel for you americans i really do. The basic premise of getting a businessman in to run the country sounds reasonable.. But it only works if your business man has some scruples, standards or a code of conduct. Pretty sure, none of that applies to trump. If he's dumb, what does that say about half of America, or however many you need to win an election over there? He's many things, but i doubt dumb is one of them. His speeches aren't particularly eloquent or articulated, but don't make the mistake of interpreting that as dumb. Was it the X files that used to have that, underlying we want to believe Psychology ? I think trump grabbed onto that with his, make america great again marketing scheme and hit a home run it. The scary part is after his first effort, when his term ends this time he won't go quietly. Thats if he isn't already trying to setup some sort of dynasty thing... A number of years ago, clive palmer (our version of trump) got himself elected after the queensland goverment imposed new taxes on mining. The first thing he did while elected was reverse the new mining taxes. We recently had our own elections over here and to every one's surprise we had Clive Palmers "Trumpet of Patriots" party as an option. Thankfully it didn't get enough support. Otherwise it would have been devastating for this country. My point being everybody with half a brain is going to latch to this strategy. Which probably means every country is going to face more "entitled people" yelling vote for me...
  12. This is the most comprehensive review/test of the R50V I've seen so far. Key takeaways (i) 75 mins runtime on a battery (ii) apparently no overheating issues over that runtime (iii) rolling shutter is not good (iv) I like that it has a second tripod mount for vertical shooting. Overall seems like a good option for certain use cases, particularly travel/walk around. That said, I might wait to see if Canon releases a more pro version before squeezing the trigger but for $700 seems like a good option. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCEN1qW0f3s&pp=ygUPY2Fub24gcjUwdiB0ZXN0

  14. Cleopatra should be taken as an influence to every movie produced after it came out. If you're studying that era of photography it's obligatory, IMO.
  15. As there are too many separate threads and topics about cameras that have fisheye lenses and small sensors, i.e. anything that goes on the end of a selfie stick, I will combine them all here and anything that gets posted separately will be moved to this post.
  16. This firmware was released some time ago, and I already used a lot the 40mm zoom mode. Yes, there is almost no drop on image quality - only "problem" is that it only works in the Normal color profile, don't work with Log. Did not tested the breathing compensation, but from the reviews that I saw, it works really well.
  17. I think the solution is to have distribution channels independent of the USA. Create your own streaming platforms for content made regionally and also internationally (among movie-producing countries that don't go into trade wars with each other). This way the market becomes much more healthy and less dominated by a small number of current players that are very large. Of course I understand that funding can be an issue, but such platforms could gather public financing (either via subscriptions that are a bit larger than the big platforms' fees initially, or via government or intergovernmental support from tax money). The streaming costs that a platform incurs are dependent on the quantity of content and if the focus is on quality, this shouldn't be a huge issue.
  18. What are your thoughts on Bertrand Mandico? Honestly i find it quite hard to understand the concepts and strories of his films, but the way his movies look and are shot is super faszinating. Also great that he comes from an animation background:
  19. Absolutely. If poorly used, it will look like complete crap. This technology should remain a pure add-on. Otherwise, think of it like an anti-inflammatory drug—it can save your life, but it can also be dangerous, even fatal. What I appreciate here is the return to the written word. Writing for cinema is coming to life again. Repetition is nonsense—hence the earlier example of Marvel, and similarly with certain stylistic formulas. This discussion hasn't positively popped up with AI... I’m not aware of Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s engagement with AI... He is clearly the Antonioni of today. But he is not Antonioni. Yet you’ll find Antonioni’s trace in his cinema, without him being a mere imitator of one of the greatest masters in the history of film. But seen as his inheritor. Both can achieve equal greatness, without one diminishing the other. No idea if anyone else has ever connected one with the other, but let me make my disclaimer: I certainly won’t be paying ANY royalties to anyone who might have written the same thing before me. For one simple reason—I also NEVER read it anywhere; I actually arrived at this conclusion strictly on my own.* Among many other influences, of course. It might even seem odd to bring his work into this thread right now, but I’ll say it without fear—I’m totally confident no one’s going to claim there’s any AI intervention going on here made or released in 2006... only artistic influences and that’s a whole different story, yup! BTW his actress and wife is with no qualification hard to add, so simply amazing, not only in my eyes and to my knowledge... She is also a director but above all a writer (Ebru Ceylan), however, her husband has a lot of him in her work too... (two only feature films as actress, oh God, does it make her less gorgeous actress?!) and in that role in specific now, as for instance! ...without ever overshadowing (or killing in the context of our discussion along this thread ; ) her gift. A few creators have impressed me so much as her performance in that particular work but credits to her husband as accomplice for that outcome. What a team! Both as sorta combo (the couple) shine even further rather than alone one or the other (the curious part is the movie plot and the stuff either Antonioni or Ceylan operate around and about). A parenthesis for the geeks and those who complain about the flaws of the current or early technology releases : D this eternal materpiece was mainly shot on good old 8-bit 3:1:1 1440x1080... I wonder if this artistic outcome or endeavor would have been possible to bring one to two decades before. We need a budget for filmmaking and not only cameras BTW : X A bit the way I see AI can work out in good hands ; ) In a word? Layers. The multiple the best. Even though, the less the better : P It's a hell of a balance hard to make, oh yeah, count on it! I will leave here an example. I asked to ChatGPT about my English here, before a few changes introduced by me in the meantime... : D and the winner (result) is: "By the way, his actress and wife is—without exaggeration—simply incredible, not only in my eyes but in my understanding. She’s also a director, but above all a writer (Ebru Ceylan). Yet her husband’s influence is undeniably present in her work too, without ever overshadowing or diminishing her gift. Together, they shine even brighter—a synergy that, to me, reflects how AI can work beautifully in good hands." I took that 'a' (before 'director' and 'writer') and robbed the word 'overshadowing' I have applied in my text. And have learnt it is better to use some punctuation mark (—) you'll start to see in my posts because I also agree it can fit more a common pattern (ah, the usual standards!) than the one (--) I am used to. Other than that, I stand with my original text. Should I feel or infer that have I stolen anything to anyone and pay royalties for that? ; ) https://www.nuribilgeceylan.com/ https://www.nuribilgeceylan.com/photography/earlyphotographs1.php https://www.nuribilgeceylan.com/photography/turkeycinemascope1.php https://www.nuribilgeceylan.com/photography/inanotherplace1.php https://www.nuribilgeceylan.com/photography/formyfathertexteng.php BTW part III, nature is a bastard... His father's face looks like the filmmaker himself! Maybe some time machine over there? LOL ; ) Well, straight on topic, for some good reason I'd like to end this post of mine with this line ;- ) * Funny, out of curiosity, I asked to ChatGPT with this paragraph if someone else had said the same in the past, here's the answer (haha looks like if I had to pay anyone, it’d be the auteur himself, I posed my observation which led to such a 'gross' statement of mine among others bien sûr): «Regarding your comparison between Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Michelangelo Antonioni, you're in good company. Ceylan has acknowledged Antonioni as a significant influence on his work. For instance, in an interview, Ceylan mentioned that Antonioni's films like L'Eclisse, L'Avventura, and La Notte inspired him during his formative years as a filmmaker. Critics have also noted the stylistic and thematic parallels between the two directors, particularly in films like Climates, where Antonioni's influence is evident in the exploration of alienation and the use of visual composition. Sources: SCREENVILLE + erajournal.co.uk So, while you're not the first to draw this connection, your perspective adds to the appreciation of Ceylan's work and its cinematic lineage.» End of quote. On your quote, Eduardo, can that Cleopatra (1963) be taken as influence too instead? I am currently literally drinking every LIFE magazine work out here: https://books.google.pt/books/about/LIFE.html Just for the sake of our discussion, should I stop to do it?
  20. For a 20 second ad filled with 1 second or less shots this could work. For a full-featured movie no. We are still a ways away from realism. The uncanny valley is brutal. And I'm talking purely about the visuals. The sound just comes through as very fake. So bad sound and mediocre visuals = AI fail. On the bright side, it's really clear they used the movie Cleopatra (1963) for their AI teaching-learning. I actually wanted to see the old Hollywood mega production during one or two of those shots.

  22. I can't say I disagree with you, on the opposite. I just try to be as neutral as possible. Placing my opinion out of the equation. It doesn't depend on my wish a lot of stuff. AI is only another small portion of it I become used to since ever. This doesn't mean any endorsement. Let alone for copyright purposes. AI will only bring challenges for the subject matter. Is this a concern? Yes, too. We can't do anything but face it. Why should we leave the idea to safeguard legit copyright? Of course, not! This presence even increases the need to protect it more than ever. Who knows bringing more chances of copyright infringement for getting a fair compensation from? : P Strictly seen from a profit POV... So, what can seem bitter, may end upside down -- I will say it again, in good hands. The same for the toolkit. I am against guns in wrong hands -- I take the example though. They can save a lot of different and crucial or critical aspects with positive handling, no less. Even useful/helpful at times. It's not the instrument itself but THE hand behind to pull the trigger... We cannot ignore the technology role. Impossible to not extend its impact on media and art surroundings. Like octopuses or spiders, disseminate everywhere they reach their presence. We are unable to stop the social media effect either and we see the footprint on population and society in general. Worse as you wrote, something we must fight against. Nothing short. So, I am with you. For real, not idle words. But. At same time, a lot of people here are used to infer action cameras are plain crap, as for instance... I'd rather take any capture device as promising cinematic experience. Well, not all of them : D but the last upgrade for sure when not old rigs! I think that's what a 8mm/16mm background or analogue video or old DV formats have brought up to here before the digital REDvolution. A bit like almost everything in life (not all the time for anything or anyone whatsoever, anyways, the orange man is the fine example... when zero tolerance applies or is called for ; ) I usually tend to reject the standpoint to see the things B&W : ) It's all about to extract the good part if any. I believe we live exciting times despite all the frustration to come with. Human are complex beings and this is made and can be controlled by humans into a myriad of dangers and contradictions as those you've mentioned and you're fairly focused for a more detailed breakdown facing so many cons, go figure what comes next and we're unable to predict yet beyond the Sci-fi or Orwell's... More inclined to be optimistic and believe we always find a way when there's good faith, I don't blame the technology. Just the way it's used, whether the driver sits in the back, at the forefront, or somewhere ahead in time. So, I actually concur with much of what you wrote, if not everything, TBH. So, I guess this won’t or should apply to everyone in this industry or business, or to all people interested in the various crafts and trades involved. But as a film producer and filmmaker, reading what Clayton Jacobson wrote about his experience* with a mix of Midjourney, Photoshop, and Runway (Gen-4), I can only fully empathise with and feel committed to his thoughts and approach to such a bloody toolset: «Another dance with the devil. An Ai test this time playing with emotion and screen direction. Testing how close i can get Ai to adhere to direction of performance. Ain’t nowhere near as satisfying as directing real actors and being surprised and delighted with their invention on set. But I can see this being useful for possible background or crowd scenes behind an actual live performance or near impossible action or dangerous scenes where you wouldn’t want a real actor to be placed in danger. Integrating these techniques with trad film making will be a game changer rather than the all or nothing approach. For the record these tests aren’t just prompts there is a lot of set up and shifting between different platforms to get something even remotely usable. But I won’t lie as a creative - having an idea and seeing a result in hours rather than years is exciting. The average feature film takes 8-15 years to go from idea to audience let that sink in. After Kenny was released I spent 15 years trying to get the gatekeepers interested in my next project and it never happened. The industry is built to say NO 99% of the time AI says yes to me Constantly. For now I’m enjoying the freedom and sandbox joy of it all. A few interesting projects in the pipeline…» source * That aforementioned link posted above came from a partner in crime with me since 1998 and with three feature movies already distributed worldwide in our back... (EAG :- )
  23. They finally put up the new video about the Eve cameras. I didn't watch yet, but I expect most of the content will be similar to before.
  24. I don’t really agree with “if you can’t beat them, join them” attitude to stuff like this. Being a right wing imbecile is very much on the rise but it doesn’t mean we should just fall into line with it. AI should be used for taking away mundanity like doing the dishes and laundry from our lives to free us up to do the fun and creative stuff not steal that from us. I’ve got admiration for whoever’s work was used to “train” this but only contempt for those who are facilitating and grifting on the blatant theft of original work. Do you not see that these tools that you are espousing will only make that situation immeasurably worse ? This will literally give these people the ability to say “yeah just make that last one again with a slight variation and set in a different location” and churn this shit out even faster and with waaayyyy more profitability than they do now ?
  25. Does this mean that those specialist art films his wife made back in the old country will now have a 100% tariff ?
