It's been on my wish list for a while... (I already own the 18-40 and 20-60, and I'm more likely to buy the more-compact APS-C Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 than the Pana 24-60).

@Noli - IMHO the other 2 buttons are none functional. I don't feel or hear any click. Original functionality of previous versions of this EVF was related to industrial instruments/devices. It was meant to be put on a protective helmet. Video input was AV. This previous version industrial EVF was fit with higher resolution sensor, HDMI input and adapted to another application - camera EVF. After your posting decided to test the EVF with other cameras. Borrowed a Sony A7CR from a friend. With this camera EVF had the same or similar problem to what you describe. Interestingly when I switch HDMI output on Sony A7CR to 1080i interlaced, there is no flickering or garbage but of course split on 2 and can see only the upper half portion. If I choose auto or 1080p - then initially picture in EVF is some flickering garbage. I have found that have to wait certain time, quite long - 5 to 7 min. After this when I switch EVF off / on picture becomes good and clear. It works as it suppose to work. If I a switch briefly camera off / then on again it still works. But if camera is switched off for longer is stops working and have to wait again. I used also external monitor with HDMI out. Camera is plugged in HDMI IN of the monitor and EVF in HDMI OUT of the monitor. It works without a problem. IMHO your conclusion that problem is related to power delivery from camera trough HDMI to EVF is correct. It is strange than after some time , EVF or Camera worms up and it works on certain cameras. Curious to see if HDMI cable with additional USB power delivery will solve problem. It won't be the best solution but at least it will work reliably. Have to warn everybody who wants to get this EVF that it doesn't work with all cameras. Guess I was lucky as it works without those problems on Sony ZV-E1.

I'm surprised at andrew's positivity at the fx2. I will say some positive things: I like the viewfinder (detachable would be better). I like the 2 screw holes at the bottom. and I like the exposed ports. But yeah.. Nikon won't have to do much with the ZR to become top option. Open gate, and Red's colour would be enough.

Doesn't really work the same as an actual EVF, a loupe on a flip-out screen isn't solid enough to press the camera into your face for stability. Kinda works on a tilt screen. On a fixed screen or a flipscreen left flat against the body it's fine, and this is ok for cameras without a traditional EVF, but you don't get the tilt benefit.

The best one out of all those is the 28-200mm. Absolutely the best travel lens I have ever used. Really light too.

I will probably add this one to come now when I have a 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 [tiptop AF & breathing as well 6-stops @16mm & 4.5-stops @300mm stabilization performance*] for day light, paid last Thursday and scheduled to just arrive by this June 2... *These tests serve as example why new releases can bring a whole difference working out as useful add-on to your arsenal... A bit more of love spread wherever fits wouldn't hurt ; ) No use of primes match the resource of zoom lenses and how handy they are. Fast glass is not everything in life, even though their blesses I also stand as irresistible indeed. Go figure to couple a lightweight zoom range like this one is.

I am using a loupe on the FP. It works well and is very light. I also thought about modifying one of those foldable coffee cups to have one thats not as bulky. 😄 I tried the EVF on the FP again but put it through a HDMI splitter with a separate power supply. Works without a problem... Guess if I'll want to use this reliably on the FP I need to get a HDMI cables with USB power.

I'd honestly love a 17-40mm f1.8 in L mount for sake of the crop in 4K50 on the S1. As long as it's not a behemoth.

Curious about the size of 17-40mm 1.8, if it is still similar to 18-35mm I think the FF 28-70/24-60 2.8 will be a better choice for smaller size/weight.

Not sure what the situation is with Sigma and the Z mount. They do three of their fast compact APS-C primes in Z mount but not the zooms or full frame. They do more in RF mount but, again, no full frame. You could speculate that pressure from both their L mount partners and their sensor supplier keeps them out of supplying the big two with full frame lenses. In the case of Nikon it’s a bit moot as with the Megadap you can just buy the e-mount versions anyway and have them as near as dammit native anyway.

No Z for now. Sigma is not much interested to work with Nikon, for whatever reason.

Oh yes. That would be great to have a 60-180mm f/4.5-6.3 with a 62mm filter thread, under 250g. Let's add on that 28mm or 40mm f/2.8 pancake about the same size as the stupid 26mm MF one. The system would then be complete!

Re. S9 lens options (and being a 'zoom' rather than 'prime' person), now the 24-60 F2.8 is out, the obvious hole in Panasonic's full-frame small/light zoom range is a longer focal length companion to the 18-40 collapsible zoom e.g. a compact 35-90. (Like the 12-32 plus 35-100 pair they introduced to go with the smaller M43 cameras years ago). The current 'reasonably compact' FF zoom range mounted on the S9 (from the left, 18-40, 20-60, 28-200 and 24-60):

I know it's 2025, but does anyone still consider using Loupes on the back of the LCD? Don't these seem more elegant and lighter solutions like for the S9? Or even just one of these:

Really great focal range for me, but I don’t have any APSC cameras. Interesting though…especially if I do move over to Sony next year because on an FX30 body, that would be a very neat pairing for my needs…

Seems like this would be the successor. Full frame is of course dominant now, so this wouldn't be as omnipresent as the 18-35, but could still be a very popular choice, at least if it comes to other mounts too.

Very promising, assuming that the power issue has more to do with the FP than the EVF itself. A bit disappointing about the crushed blacks though. I wonder if that could be tweaked in the firmware, maybe it's a 16-235 vs 0-255 issue.

I already have a few of primes you mention. I have the 24 and 50mm, but I fear they might be only for a pinch. I'll probably use the 18-40 for the moment. I'm going to give it go with my Konica lenses too, especially my 40mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.4. Also, I have the 21mm f/2.8 and the 100mm f/2.8; so, plenty of options there. It should arrive tomorrow.

Depends on your preferences but all of the Sigma f2/2.8 primes, all the Lumix f1.8/2.8 primes, various small zooms including the new 24-60, all very good combos. I prefer the Sigma f2’s for stills and for their build and looks, but I went with the Lumix f1.8 primes for mine with the 18, 50 and 85. I’m now questioning the 18 and might trade it for the 24 as it’s just a bit too wide for my needs and taste. The 35 is not quite wide enough and a bit close to the 50. The 50 has been my workhorse the last few jobs and the one I am currently on, but whether I stay with L Mount for video or flip to Sony (or Nikon) 99% sure I will pick up a Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 because that would suit my needs best.
