  1. Past hour
  2. I concur on the filmmaking remark. No doubts, most part is pastiche, so completely useless. I wish IT developers could learn a bit with their fellows from the filmmaking realm indeed ; ) With a bit of the exception for wedding videographers, corporate video and those who work in a daily basis with commercials without some other method in any way other than as being more creative for fairly balance their loading when there's a customer directly paying the delivery made. These ones cannot be considered purposeless. I also concur it's not easy to survive in a large enterprise IT environment hence my remark that the competition is inside but the user paying the bill outside. What bothers me. Those "most switched and talented people" you mention fail on learning basics of communication and art in general. They simply don't care. Let alone those in the chair of the decision-chain, they also need to justify their personal revenue. These people look to never have heard about minimalim only to refer one example and so on. Take a look on Facebook as for instance today. A disgrace. Instagram was purchased why? And Skype? What did they do with the latter one at least? About Google, what are they actually doing with? To place sane users out of there? Confusing, a total mess. The settings are a completely lack of respect for the user with a lot of justifications to pay a few useless services like we have no life outside. Let's get the right picture of what online is and should always be. Most part of it is really coming from such a hit-and-miss affair. Common sense and putting ourselves into someone's shoes, in the moment of change the design of the UI once again a week or month, wouldn't hurt at all.
  3. Oh man, don't you love youtubers and their thumbnail game? "This 3/4 adaptor changes everything!!!!!!"
  4. Trust me. It's not necessarily a good thing to have Amazon. Your taxes will pay for their warehouses and run everyone out of business. In the end, you have a bunch minimum wage workers with Amazon never paying for the infrastructure they degrade. Never mind the fact they will soon have a monopoly and you'll have no choice but to work with them.
  5. Today
  6. I bet BM and Canon didn't expect vision pro to fail.
  7. At least you have an Amazon!!! (not the case for me)
  8. It's all relative. Amazon, in Seattle, takes longer than in France. Go figure.
  9. And don’t get me started on Amazon deliveries… Next or even same day in some UK cities, but min 3 days on anything it seems with Amazon.fr Hey ho, at least the weather is great. Except it hasn’t been. But apart from that… 🤪
  10. As posted a few months ago after my haha moment while trying the Vision Pro 3 months ago I brought a dual fisheye (already had the R5c) and a Meta Quest 3 (kind of Vision Pro for the poor 🙂) So far I have filmed: -Bungee jumping on the James Bond Goldeneye jump, probably the most impressive so far that I did. -Basketball -Horse showjumping -Bike -Car -5 Star Luxus Hôtel Everybody that I have filmed, and I show them on the Quest they just say "ohhhh wow just incredible it seems to be there". It is definitely an early stage, but I feel the tech is finally mature enough for early adopters. Every time I look at the footage it seems unreal.... yet you need to wear a heavy and clumsy device to experience so the 1M$ question is: will Vision Pro style devices become mainstream and if yes when? I also started filming some family moment, not really a lot of work as the camera is normally static just to have some memories in case the tech will really take off. Anyway, I'm happy that Resolve will have tools for immersive (VR180) as right now is a bit of a pita the process, some stuff is quite complex like stabilization... What I would dream of an Insta360 X4 but VR180... I watched some of this year Alaskan Snowboard 360 trip video on the Quest and is just wow, but 360 is not as great as VR180...
  11. I worded that clumsily. I meant the consumer priced version of the VisionPro, which is "from £3499" when it launches in the UK next month.
  12. That's the risk with being an early adopter. You're making a big bet, if you get it right you might be getting in early to make $$$$$$ If you get it wrong, you could be losing it all. I think the consumer priced version is the Canon R7 Or perhaps the next generation iPhone Pro Max???
  13. I think you're discrediting the French. They were probably expecting a message from Nikon over Minitel, not fax.
  14. That BM aquascooter looks pretty wild and you'd hope they are producing the lens system as a separate swappable option for the 17K camera rather than it just being a single unit. Its certainly got the resolution to make the most of shooting VR and commercially if you are one of few people shooting for a content starved device (and consumers) like the Vision Pro then it makes more sense maybe than being A.N. Other shooter of "regular" content. Its a risk though as you'd be gambling on this being the trigger for more widespread adoption of a very expensive device that has received far higher praise for its technology and conceptual aspects than its actual utility. Of course, the "consumer" priced version may be just around the corner but, again, thats a bit of a risk and the whole thing is very chicken and egg. The R7/3.9mm dual fisheye is a very different proposition entirely though. I think this is something where you have to forget about a wider audience or naysayers ("Its too low res bro") and likely any commercial use, particularly at the current time, and look at your own needs and say will creating stuff with this please me ? From content that I've watched on my Quest 2 that is made by its bigger brother R5/5.2mm combo then I'd say, yes, it does please me, particularly considering the price differential. The R7 is a very capable and compact camera that is great for travel and this (along with events) is what I would use it for to capture nice looking immersive 3D memories. Years ago, I had one of the Sony TD20 3D camcorders and I actually thought it was pretty great for that stuff but then, like a lot of people, got sucked into the "I'm going on holiday to France, I simply cannot shoot anything that doesn't look like it was shot by Roger Deakins" bollocks. I just don't enjoy a packing list that reads "Swimming shorts, sunglasses, flip flops, sunscreen, three lenses, ND filters, matte box, follow focus..." for holidays any more. Thats why I've gravitated towards the Osmo (if indeed I take any camera) these days and I think this combo would give me some way to bridge the gap and make something more interesting. With the option, of course, of taking one of those small RF primes or zooms if I felt like using it as a regular camera. However.....despite being far cheaper than the R5 equivalent, the R7/3.9 mm has a combo price of around £2300 which is way over the top for me these days for a "that might be fun" indulgence but I certainly look forward to enjoying what other people do with it. In this video, Canon are advocating using it the 4K/30/25 fine mode for maximum quality (as its from oversampled 7K) but it would be interesting to see it what it does in the R7's 4K/60/50 mode.
  15. I've seen the insides of a significant number of offices, and I can assure you, useless people who can survive in the corporate environment can easily do it without creating any tangible outputs at all. It's incredibly difficult to actually deliver IT changes in a large enterprise IT environment, so only the most switched on and talented people are able to do it. Saying that people are successfully making changes to justify their useless jobs is kind of like saying that there are all these useless film-makers making feature films that get cinema releases just to justify themselves.
  16. Yet on the use of mobile vs desktop hardware, I wonder how might some hybrid combo work out? One thing is for sure, there's no more than 16GB VRAM for the use of GPU nor unified memory as happens with Apple going along a Windows laptop. So, how would a 13900HS actually fit a RXT 4090 24GB VRAM match? If the 13th or 14th generation of a desktop processor can be something to avoid 'cause of thermal throttling issues, what about a balance between the best of both worlds? I think this is what Mini PCs are bringing to the equation... But again, what do we know? : D https://www.pcworld.com/article/2216181/intel-14th-gen-mobile-core-hx-no-need-to-upgrade-and-thats-great.html
  17. I guess so, exactly the same wondering here, hence I think the obscure label perfectly fits there... LOL However, there are two interesting variables they dare to add... One of them is why Intel rather than AMD and their respective low profile cooling, like what they have to offer instead? The other one is the external eGPU which will obviously alleviate the overheating pressure inside the main box.
  18. That thing looks like it will not even remotely cool the CPU under sustained load and will thermal throttle the performance into Nirvana.
  19. No, I never used Olympus cameras, only the f1.2 lenses. But I heard good things about their IBIS.
  20. This last one would be where I would couple a i9-4900K desktop processor absolutely allergic to low profile CPU coolers, hence my wondering on Beelink pushing the boundaries; so just curious to see where they're going but it's definitely a last pristine forest to be explored nowadays, no doubts on it :- )
  21. Here's another one, similar form factor *: * And here's a bit larger but not that much, the Lian Li above-mentioned where the game is being played these days... ;- ) Not exactly a Mini PC but a solid fact is there, it's neither a RTX 4090 VRAM 16GB nor a mobile version of a CPU we're talking about, yes, desktop stuff at the portable side... To those who are in the move, this makes a whole difference anyway, once thermals may happen to be under control...
  22. OCuLink access is already a reality today. As for the processor, yup, desktop ; ) that's the ticket now, not exactly this one yet but close: On the price target, it depends. Their offer is usually much affordable so I expect it will match the normal-size one instead.
  23. Well it’s official now and we (those of us that are interested) have a date with units supposed to be available to purchase within a month. Living in France, that will take a little longer as stockists whether brick & mortar or on-line will have to wake up and say, “Huh? What? A new camera? No one told us”. Well they did, - just because they sent the info by email and not fax, does not mean Nikon HQ didn’t send it. But I digress. I can’t see me not pre-ordering a single unit to replace my current stills combo of Z6ii and Zf. Something like 15 shooting days into the combo, the simple summary is I need a single stills camera and not a pair and the capability of the Zf in the Z6ii body would be perfect as neither individually are ideal for my needs, the Z6ii just being too slow and the Zf being an ergonomic pain in the arse. Alongside my all L Mount set up for video, it will be the first time I will be able to say I am finally happy with the combo of bodies and lenses for my needs. And then, post season, November onwards, depending on what Lumix does with any S1 replacement, there are 3 contenders going forward: A. All Nikon B. All L Mount C. Continue with the combo of Nikon + Tamron for stills plus Panny + Sigma for video, but maybe get an S9 to replace the S1H just to lighten the load which is the only requirement I still have. Spec-wise, we have (for my needs) already reached the point where all boxes have been ticked. My last remaining aim is to streamline and lighten the load wherever I can. With Nikon + Tamron, I have achieved that so just need to do that now with L Mount. Or not. We shall see…
  24. I stand BTW... what people do to justify the existence of their useless jobs and salaries... Google is actually the finest example of it, they change so many times their services that become annoying and a perfect waste of resources instead. I don't think they become more profitable with those silly moves from a few individuals to desperately struggle for their survival. The competition is inside their companies, not outside. Take a look on Yahoo or Bing with a market share of 3.11% less than 9 months ago, so a couple of losers. They don't go to bankruptcy because the market is huge and their core business hold the margin but far to be a case of success and top one of the industry.
  25. LOL The trouble is when you spend less time with ;- )
  26. I think red's r3d is probably the best raw codec. r1mx can go recode 42 1:75, epic-x can go 1:3, epic dragon can go 1:2. all of the nles can render r3d very efficiently.
  27. I actually like hassy's 6x6. that is real open gate. lol. just no equivalent in the movie world. it is interesting that about 20 years ago, 4:3 was considered old fashion and nobody liked it.
