Look carefully at the design of this – it’s brilliant for the price.

They say that good design costs nothing, but manufacturing and tooling certainly does. Here, the manufacturers of this follow focus, JIN Finance are at an advantage. You probably already have a JIN Finance product because they were the original builders of aluminium lens adapters for Micro Four Thirds. Everything from Canon FD to Contax Zeiss they made and sold since before the GH1 was released, and I still use their adapters today. They haven’t worn out!

Final Cut Pro X released next week with mystery Apple ‘Thunderbolt product’

FCPX and 'Thunderbolt Product' due June 20th

Apple Insider reports that FCP-X is being readied for the App Store and will be released in the final week of June 2011. Slightly less highly anticipated but of just as much intrigue is that Apple are said to be releasing an as yet revealed Thunderbolt product alongside FCP-X.

OpenCL in OSX Lion to give FCP X huge performance hike

Apple Mac OSX Lion supports OpenCL

OSX Lion is to have an emphasis on a technology called OpenCL.

OpenCL allows normal apps to take advantage of the programmable nature of GPUs (graphics processors) in modern computers. GPUs are more powerful than general purpose CPUs but until now have only been used to crunch through 3D graphics. The graphics chip has long since stood idly by unless playing games but now is about to have a lot more influence over your everyday video apps.

GH3 to have emphasis on low light performance, new EVF technologies

GH2 and Ichiro Kitao of Panasonic

Panasonic are in talks with Epson to provide cutting edge new display technology for the EVF in the GH3. The news comes from a recent interview with Panasonic’s Ichiro Kitao at the launch of the GF3. It was a change of tone from last year when Panasonic spoke of the GH2 as a niche camera. Now they say, it is a ‘flagship’ and ‘very important’.
