There's even now a name for it... Slacktivism!

Thanks for the word. Hitchhiking causes is another good one. Berlin has become a center for biggots. Once groovy underground capital of East, West- and unified Germany, not anymore so for the last five years. Playground for realestate benefitors and their influencer kids.

This is not censorship. DPreview or any other private institution don't have the authority to censor anything.
Calling the closure of a forum thread or banning of a forum contributor censorship shows a lack of understanding for the meaning of that word and disguises the abusive power involved in real actual censorship.

You seem to be you saying private companies aren't capable of censorship.

The definition of censorship in the Oxford English dictionary is "the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security"

If private companies censored George Floyd related topics on the internet as politically unacceptable, we'd have never seen the murder videos in the first place or the spread would have been far less mainstream.

So yes private companies are capable of censorship, individuals are too. It isn't just reserved for communist governments.

You won't change my mind on this so don't bother.

Exactly. Words have meanings...These pictures are not prohibited.

You were offended by the DPreview ban of crosslinks to this forum and saw an opportunity to take a shot at them. All other talking is just a ridiculous overestimation of oneself and some nerdy camera-sites 99.999% of people don't give a shit about...

Sadly yes. It's why I left. The change was unbearable.

Yeah, no chance to meet you at Mauerpark then, like I had been speculating on since your GH4 review:) Every day I have a hard time to believe my eyes. I thought the wave of gentrification was over after the early 2000 years. I had no I idea and I have no idea what´s to come.

@Michi I find your comment amusing. Call it censorship, call it banning information, it´s the same. Germany largest online news put an article out on what might come next- A potus who mobilises his racist followers for civil war. Now, if we all could agree on not promoting this man on this forum, that would be nice. That guy has plenty promotion already.

It's not the same! Censorship by definition is an act committed by official state authorities. Mostly done by totalitarian regimes but not exclusively. This is not a question of agreeing to what DPreview or whoever does and does not. I just can't stand this inflationary crying about "censorship" or "oppression of free speech". It's what all these trolls, haters and right wing radicals do too when they get banned on Twitter, Facebook and comment-sections of News-sites. And it demeans actual oppression of free speech and acts of censorship.

If I had to guess I'd say DPreview closed that threat because they feared it would lead to quickly escalating political discussions, hate and insults. And of course it would, because people just can't behave in the internet. We all know that.

Michi you are being a fuckwit. That is not the definition of censorship at all. That's one aspect of it.

Haters, right wing radicals crying about censorship when they get banned from Twitter is nothing to do with a private company locking a guy's black lives matter photo topic. For a start, one is right wing toxicity, the other is in support of a murdered black man and standing up against the racism of a government authority.

Like I said before, you lose your freedom of speech if you abuse it.

If you use it to fan the flames of hate or bring down an online platform.

Or if you speak total bullshit.

Censorship is suppression of the evidence, of truth.

If I delete some bullshit comment it's not censorship, it's standing up for the truth.

I can't understand why this line looks so blurry to some people.

And by totalitarian regime do you mean America's?

And that's an argument happily and often used by dictatorships and oppressing regimes all over the world... Pick your favorite!

Anyway, to me this looks like a pathetic self-righteous crusade that roots in some kind of personal dispute I'm not familiar with. But whatever, I sense my time on this forum might be over soon since disagreeing with you can be a high risk game. Your house, your rules...

Nope, that is censorship Andrew, do not delude yourself. Respectfully.

Haha, it's all freedom of speech, as long as it's what the alt left agrees with. Then if you are just a moderate conservative with social liberal views, you are a nazi the second you say anything that isnt 100% what they agree with. Dont like Bernie Sanders because he is a radical socialist? You must be alt right then 🤣

Finally, another idiot gone.

At this rate we'll be a much better forum.

What would you prefer every member to be here Andrew? Am I not welcome if I am socially liberal, but economically conservative & think trump is a crazy ass? Do I have to agree with everything you say and be a rabid liberal to be welcome here?

So going back to the original topic.

DPReview forum mod locked and censored posts with photos of anti-racism protests.

You could ask yourself why? And what do you think about that?

On the front page, the headline about the police targeting photo journalists was misleading. In the article, the photographer had their lens broken by a protester.

Do you think this is acceptable - to vilify the police and then use two completely false examples of police brutality?

Americans need to start questioning more.

No.

And by the way, I am not a "rabid liberal" whatever that is.

I have a mixture of complicated views, some of them socially liberal, some of them agreeing with Joe Rogen's podcast a lot of the time, some of them fiscally conservative, it's a big old mix.

This is why it is so stupid we are putting people into tribes of far left and far right.

It is way more complex.

However, capitalism selects for extremes so this is the result. A fading away of any middle ground, and two tribes battling it out for supremacy and control.

Fair enough. I am more for less regulation on small-medium sized businesses, but I think it's total garbage that people like Bezos have friends who create so many loopholes for him & others, that they pay no taxes while making billions. That just makes everyone else pay their share(amazons). I agree with the tribalism thing, it seems quite extreme on each side now, where it used to be much more balanced. I am for people speaking their mind, but do not tolerate racism, if you delete some bullshit racist posts & ban those assholes, I will applaud that. I have just witnessed too many people here calling anyone else who is not as far left as them a nazi, which is crazy to me and dilutes a classification that should hold meaning to actual alt right shitheads. Then we have moderate conservatives now calling all liberals communists, which also is not accurate.

I have teased you about some of the vendettas you have taken up against blackmagic and dpreview, but it is because I dont think you should bother with it. I do think you are talented in what you have created here and appreciate you opinion on cameras etc.

Keep up the good work and I hope we can all not give in to hate. Life is too short to hate. Let's try to help free those who have been put down by it.
