  1. Yes it does. When the Spanish flu was spreading there was a sharp decline in infections and death but then come fall and winter it would come back (and did and killer 100s is thousands in the US alone). So having summer come to slow down the infection rate to buy time to develop a vaccine is very important. I think the worst is yet to come for the US at least. We have been slow to deploy testing kits and as we do the number of confirmed cases are rising.

Well that’s just the thing. MFT gives me options and I’m willing to take the trade offs. Ask any MFT shooter and they will tell you the same thing. There will never be a 100-400 f2.8 FF lens that fits in my cargo pocket. I can add a metabones speedbooster and get very close to “the full frame look”. The GH5 has offered 4K60p since 2017. With a speedbooster, it’s arguable been the best “super35” camera with IBIS until the XT4. Trade offs? No bullet proof autofocus. The other disadvantages of MFT are or have been addressed with technologies like dual gain sensors, speedboosters, and extremely fast native 0.95 lenses. Shallow depth of field is a style choice not a requirement. I’m of the camp that a deeper depth of field is OK. It’s OK for the audience to get a sense of the scene. So the “disadvantage” of a deeper depth of field with a crop sensor camera isn’t really a problem for me...and when it is I can fix it easily with multiple options! In fact I would say MFT operates in the sweet spot for depth of field that is most commonly used in cinema. And we rarely criticize cinema in depth of field or camera used, it’s about the story, pacing, and actors. So it’s annoying people keep repeating garbage talking points and talking down about this excellent format. And the bottom line...you can buy and use whatever you want because most clients don’t care! Garbage is garbage wether it was shot on MFT or FF.
  3. So this is all hearsay so take it with the required dose of salt... A friend has some connections with the US CDC and they basically said that everybody is extremely worried about the scale of infections with covid-19. That’s it more of a “when” than an “if” there will be an outbreak in the US. South Korea is a good indicator of how fast this virus spreads. They basically went from tens of cases to over 1,000 in less than two weeks so there is very little room for error in containment and that has then worried mostly due to the mass panic it can cause but also the enormous strain it puts on hospitals and the effort required to contain it. Its basically a mad dash to warmer summer months with fingers crossed... But seriously the best thing to do is wash your hands and avoid touching around your eyes and hands...basic cold and flu prevention.

I have something similar and yep it’s pretty great. 18-200mm focal range with a mix of 1.7 and 2.8 apertures. I’m definitely made up my mind to get an EM1.3 with the 24-100 f/4 as a landscape/wildlife combo for those days I just want to relax and have fun shooting. Can carry all I need in one hand. Don’t need a tripod. Don’t need a gimbal. Can do landscape or wildlife on a whim, maybe even Astro. Don’t need to worry about weather or rain as the EM1.3 is probably the best weather sealed camera out there besides the EM1X. When or if we get a GH6 with GH5S lowlight ability and G9 or better stabilization then I’ll be extremely happy. In my humble opinion f/1.2 on MFT is all I need for shallow DoF. I think FF f/2 is the limit for me, anything shallower just looks like shite for video. And people use it as a crutch. Dont get me wrong. The GFX photos Andrew posted where really nice and creamy, but I consider that a special case for portrait photography. If that was a video, I’m sorry but it would be a party trick. It’s what I like to call “the FF fish bowl”. Great when you want to film in the toilet and not let the audience know where you are!

To be honest, sounds like the “lowly” GX85 punched above it’s weight. There is much more to photography and videography than the fucking sensor size. “Oh, buts it’s not Full frame”. “Oh, it doesn’t have that FF look”. M43 isn’t trying to be Full frame. It’s a lovely system. It’s very capable and can punch above it’s weight in many categories. It’s a FUN system with lovely cameras. Ask anyone that goes out with their EM1 or G9. You get to pack a light pack and leave the tripod at home. The new EM1.3 can take 50MP handheld Astro photography. Think about that for a moment. Are they as good as a FF camera with a tripod and some expensive lens? Probably not. I bet it was still fun as hell for the M43 user. And that’s why people like Tony Northrop need to shut the fuck up when they don’t know what they are talking about. Like somehow M43 is inferior? It’s actually pretty amazing and flexible system! Take a look at Chris Eyre-Walker or James Popsys. Think they care that they aren’t using FF? Nah, they don’t give a fuck. They see the virtues and trade offs and then just create and capture some nice stuff, all most all of it handheld, with a small kit, in challenging conditions. They leverage the virtues of M43. But they aren’t using professional equipment because it doesn’t have a FF sensor in it? Phhftt. And as we can see fromTony Northrop the full frame look can be highly over-rated. Thanks tony for the great memes.

Yosuke Yamane has said there won’t be 8K soon from Panasonic, wether that means this year or not until after the Olympics. I believe the only contenders for 4:3 STARVIS sensors that @androidlad has hinted at is a ~42 MP sensor and a ~54 MP (quad-bayer design?). With the Covid-19 heavily affecting production of parts and supply in most manufacturing sectors, I feel like we will get an announcement but may have a much later launch. When you look at the GH5 today, a 2017 camera, I find it absolutely amazing it’s still a top tier camera. 5K open gate, 6K anamorphic, 4K60p, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal, unlimited recording, waveforms, great audio, dual UHS-II slots, 400Mbit All-I, built-in time-lapse, and the list goes on! Even a fucking stop motion mode! Hopefully Panasonic continues the legacy and truly gives us something special. I love MFT and as you can see, it makes trades offs that give us all of the above I listed in a weather sealed, relatively compact, workhorse of a camera. Meanwhile Sony users are STILL waiting for 10-bit in a A7 body...
  8. At 30fps and higher DfD with face tracking has been reliable enough for me on GH5S and G9. I have hopes it will continue to improve with better tracking and faster processing or maybe new hardware tricks like ToF or something else.
  9. Well, in my mind it doesn’t make sense NOT to move in the direction of a VSM for future Fujifilm GFX cameras. It’s just another way to make use of that huge sensor and offer a value add for buyers. I’m sure people that would be interested in shelling out 10K for a GFX camera also have legacy glass or use another system to begin with. Makes a lot of sense to me.
  10. How about a JVC LF300 where the LF stands for large format. They can partner with Leica AND Zeiss so we can finally have a Summicron Planar T* lens.
  11. Yeah, Maybe it’s just a specification issue. The LS300 is a weird beast. Would be cool to see a MFT+ specification that had lower crop factor, but you would probably lose tele-centric lens design ability and perhaps backward compatibility to existing lenses, unless perhaps, they developed their own VSM system as JVC did 😄 But now Fuji seems to have IBIS in super35 so they are taking solid steps to basically owning the crop sensor market. Their lenses are still huge though. I was surprised how large their 200mm f2 is.
  12. Well that’s good to hear.
  13. Just watched Kai video. It seems to still have that horrid stepping exposure problem.
  14. They don’t mention it on any promotion material or spec sheet. Independent tests say it is weather sealed and pretty well too...so maybe not an issue?
  15. I think if anything, the XT4 puts a hurting on MFT manufactures. It’s a crop sensor camera, but one of the much less maligned variety, apparently. Definitely IBIS is the new 4K. I absolutely hate using a gimbal since I have to with my non stabilizer GH5S. I’m seriously contemplating pickup up a EM1.3 and giving it a run. But I’m going to wait and see what Panasonic drops with the GH6. No weather sealing is a no buy for me for the XT4. I like to shoot in harsh conditions. The recording limits are also kind of a deal breaker as well. Are they a hard limit or are they they based on actually temperature readings?
  16. Hard to get rid of the warping without some digital IS to compensate for it. Olympus just straight up crops in to help with the warp effect.
  17. Sensor in the GH5 is 17.3mm x 13mm. Almost every site that lists the GH5S does not list the sensor size correctly. It is 19.2mm x 13mm Its “oversized” so the corners exceed the MFT image circle. So in the image you can see there is some wiggle room for the sensor to move around without vignetting (left side). On the GH5S the captured area, even in 16:9, goes right up to the limit of the image circle. The corners of the images would vignette heavily with a floating sensor on the GH5S. As well, the “open gate” 4:3 mode on the GH5S is actually a crop mode.
  18. Rather have them say this then blow smoke up my ass. Furthermore, it’s true. They are trying to break into a extremely crowded full frame market. I have no doubt the Canons R5 is, in part, a reaction to this. I would say Canon has a much better chance simply because Panasonic has yet to convince people of their AF performance, no matter how good their full frame image is or how many features their cameras have. Conversely, Canon can remove feature as long as they have good color and have DPAF.
  19. Yes, but if you want IBIS in the GH6 there won’t be a MAR sized sensor in it.
  20. Unless you need the slightly smaller foot print or the smaller price I would spend extra for the EM1.3. It’s already quite small and with the new TruePix processor will mostly likely be the one to get new features via firmware if there is an update.
  21. Only with the EVF. I find it really hard to judge when using the low resolution flip screen. So hoping we get a better screen on a GH camera. It's those practical upgrades that make a difference every time you pick up the camera.
  22. Yes, perfect showcase for the IBIS technology in Olympus cameras.
  23. That is why I did not buy a P4K. I have no interest in bolting a battery to the side of my camera with a cage on it. I’ll take the 0.5-0.8 DR hit with my GH5S and have an internal battery and weather sealing.
  24. I bet they could do if they removed the physical shutter mechanism.
