Lux Shots reacted to Andrew Reid in Jared Polin doesn't get it - EOS R5 overheating
Look I'm not going to get personal here.
I don't know the guy in real life.
At the 1:10 mark: "Let me be clear on something. There is way too much speculation going around about an issue that doesn't actually exist (yet)".
    Really?!
    No. It's not speculation.
100% factual. Canon official test timing info.
    At 1:23 he whines:
"None of the press has had a production camera. All the cameras are pre-production"
Perhaps he can explain then why Canon went to all that trouble testing the pre-production camera to calculate overheating times and releasing them publicly if the problem suddenly won't exist by the time the final firmware is ready?
Canon did all the testing on the beta firmware camera. Same hardware as Peter McKinnon was given and likely exact same firmware version.
It's two weeks from shipping, the beta firmware is basically the final one. The hardware is final. The thermal design is final.
    Jared just doesn't get it.
But then the whiney voice really ratchets up a notch because one of his viewers dared pointing out a fact or two!
The viewer said "stop ignoring the overheating".
"What I am ignoring?" he responds!
"The document that is floating around purportedly from Canon?"
    Purportedly...
    I get it...
Discredit the facts. Discredit the source.
Heaven forbid - Don't mention the original source EOSHD, during the time all other major sites were stone dead silent on it.
I am not finishing for credit.
But again it illustrates the sheer cheek of it. Clearly I or CVP don't deserve an ounce of his publicity or thanks for expanding his knowledge and breaking the news first to his audience?
And when you do simply add up what Polin has said, it absolutely stinks.
Gloss over the fact the timings are legitimate. Imply they aren't even final. Imply the overheating is "speculation". Imply there may be zero wrong with the final camera. Say how great a stills camera it is. Claim abject poverty and that the video you're watching puts no money in his account. Say the actual overheating timings may not even be real!
And then to top it all off...
"If it is real, Canon are really honest!"
The sheer fucking cheek of it.
His viewers commented that he's "getting his bank account lit up for these videos".
And of course he denies it.
"I'm not getting paid by Canon..."
What he forgot to add was "...this time"
This is a guy who has no problems sitting on a beach in Hawaii for the EOS R launch, hotel and flight paid for by Canon.
Of course he is getting his bank account lit from the videos. They are monetised.
And the gist of the last 5 minuets if you can get that far is... Canon are honest! I am honest too! Now watch these YT ads and click these links so I can get even richer. 160k views on the overheating controversy and of course not a single mention of his original sources for the info. Not even the CVP video let alone EOSHD.
I don't envy these creators. I don't get any satisfaction from being handed cameras for free or going on press controlled junkets. I make a good living off EOSHD and don't feel the need to have 160k views on each video. But if people wonder why I'm not championing the American YouTube Circle Jerk and chomping at the bit to join in, well... Here is exhibit B, out of 10,000.

So in hot weather, if you film 10 second clips and switch off the camera between shots, it doesnt overheat.  Problem solved. 😉

In an ad for Canon, all they could find to give the woman was a KONICA film camera?   They could not find a Canon one?

Just to correct your article, the S1h only has 6k 4:2:0 not 4:2:2 10 bit. I wish lol. As a user of the S1h, I can say that I am glad they put a fan on that thing even if it means the body is a bit larger. I like that it’s heavier as it makes the camera more stable while holding. Mix that with awesome IBIS and it’s a winner. I bought the S1h because it has really good 4k. I don’t understand everyone who wants 8k.  Storage and workflow is going to be a complete nightmare for most. Not to mention the cost of cfast cards. If I were to get either of these I think the R6 is the one to look at. Either way its a great push for these companies and I’m all for competition for better cameras.

Problem with that is that there is a cool down period and a reduction in the next recording.  So 12 mins wouldn't necessary be consistent.
People are treating this as a clip limit, its not.  Its more random.  The figures quoted assume a certain temperature and with the camera switched on from cold.  If the temperature is higher, if you've been storing it in a warm place, or using it before; these could all reduce the figures down.  Some people saying you can record 20 mins of 8K RAW just because this is the figure Canon gave as an example, isn't really accurate.  It could be much longer on a cold day and a lot shorter on a hot day.

The tech team in Panasonic should be embarrassed. Or maybe they're not announcing it to prevent slowing down sales of current cameras?

Client doesn't care if you miss an entire shot because the camera has steam coming out the card door?

When it dies in the middle of a shot will the first thought be "I am glad Canon pushed the camera industry forward" or will it be "why did I spend £4000 on this thing which Peter McKinnon said was THE GRAIL CAMERA"?

In my opinion, unless Panasonic adds the -1 NR setting and all that it brings to the S1, no narrative creator should even consider the S1 to work alongside the S1H as a B cam. Pony up and get another S1H!

    Pocket 6K
    - better codec, raw options, small, great performance
    - better screen
    - better menu system
    - better slow motion quality but crop

    S1H
    - better color (V-Gamut) and better dynamic range/low light
    - much better battery life - no rig needed
    - IBIS
    - no crop 120p but line skipping and what seems like 10 bit readout

Artifacts are a non-issue on both now that Panasonic finally fixed the NR (-1 setting) and H265 codec issues. Motion cadence also looks similar on the S1H now.

Now I have to go trolling for models again! I always feel like I'm cheating on my wife when I do that. Its even worse when the girls are interested in more than just modeling.
You can turn down a meal or a drink, but turning down advances from women can get you killed or at the least, incorrectly thought of as gay, (with all due respect to the LGBTQ community 🌈 😃).

Both were affected, but 6K was much worse even.
Now both 4K and 6K modes are working as expected. Just make sure to turn NR down to -1.
Also, no more banding using the 6K modes.

It is, no more banding as it seems, will do a blue sky test tomorrow.
Also HDMI monitoring works now with 6K recording.

Loving the aspect ratio as well. 😄

Also the image - especially after the update - blows the competition out of the water.
Codecs are improved now - so is the color gamut/mapping and (temporal) NR can be turned off now.

The thing about actually finishing things got a nod and a laugh from me, I can't count how many things I've started and then left in limbo, meaning to come back later but never do.
I think I am easily bored. Always looking for next idea.
Nucleus nano sounds like a good idea. The S1H is a great cinema camera. It's never going to be a camcorder with AF or an effortless run & gun shot grabber. X-T4 with an 18-135 is better at that.
I'd like to settle on one camera too. Would be nice 😂

I think with the new update and the NR -1 setting coming the amount of detail and texture should be quite similar to RAW.

This is currently missing. It's also kinda a pain in the ass to get this working with my S1H, as you have to enable Timecode over HDMI for the triggering to work.

    Go figure!
I'll have some tomorrow with a model I have scheduled for a photo shoot. I'll do some video in a mix of 5.9K, 4K FF and 4K 60p.

Yeah, almost forgot about the 1:2 macro.
It's a very durable lens, too. Don't ask me how I know
I got the S1 and 24-105 f/4 as a kit to save money, and I was 95% sure I would turn around and sell the 24-105, but I just couldn't do it. Again, not the sexiest lens, but it is just so versatile.

The Panasonic lenses are expensive because they are extremely well built and feature-full. Even the 24-105 F4 is a beast with everything you mentioned and semi-macro ability.
Imagine if it had PDAF...it would have sold much, much better.

Bits ain't stops buddy. Why is everyone interchanging bits with stops like they are the same thing, they clearly are not the same thing! Bits allow more graditions between a minimum and maximum luminance. The delta between minimum and maximum luminance is the amount of stops of dynamic range.
