Congrats for your new equipment!
Excellent choices and future proof (for the middle term at least).
The Mixpre6 is a bonus, and it is a no brainer. In my opinion the best low cost recorder for most people (I am eying the 10t myself, but I bought a lot of equipment, and I will slow down for a while!). It could be a better deal than the wireless, because you can connect anything to it.
Not many tips really, the Mixpre has excellent analog preamps with analog limiter/compression capabilities, so you are a couple of steps ahead of the usual Zoom/Tascam crowd! The AUTO search of Sony is stellar (it works 99% of the time), and be careful of the ATTenuation setting on the transmitter (I usually have it on -6), and the gain on the receiver (better play it safer there, as you do not want to overload the mic capsule before your signal passes through the excellent analog circuits of the Sound Devices).
Just play it safe, you can give some dB gain on post easily!

I have a SD 302 that I use with a tascam DR40 recorder. I looked at the Mixpre and I like how the recorder and everything was just one unit. No more extra XLR wires in my bag. So I looked at eBay and found a mixPre 3 open box. Made a lower offer. But I ended up contacting the company selling it and they also had a MixPre 6 also an openbox unit. I figured my needs might expand MixPre 3 and I should just cough up the money. So I got like $80 discount on basically a brand new one and I decided to take it.
However, I have SO MUCH TO LEARN. To use this setup and leverage all their potential. If you guys have any tips would love to hear them. thanks!

@IronFilm and @Kisaha I blame you guys for this. At least for the sony stuff.
But seriously. Thanks for the feedback and sharing your experiences.

haha. But at least you can't blame me for buying a MixPre6! ;-)

@mercer are you on Sierra or High Sierra? If it's working that smoothly on just Sierra then I'll probably go ahead and update FCPX after this project is done

Updated...
Holy Crap... it runs so smooth. The color tab is so good now. I’ve been using the color board for a while, but I had to jump back and forth between the Color Board, Colorista IV and Color Finale and now there really is no need to...
Everything can be done in the color tab. Since I’ve never used the Hue/Saturation curves in Resolve or Colorista, this is something I need to learn more about.
However, I don’t love the way they implemented LUTS... going into Inspector first seems like an unnecessary step that could have been a subset of the color tab and I don’t like that you can’t control the strength of the LUT, but at least they have made it insanely simple to import LUTS.
Again, if FCPX could just import CDNG files, then I would be completely satisfied.

Thanks! I guess I'm still on El Capitan.

It actually downsamples from a 5120 x 2880 area, it has a 1.17 crop.

Please don't put the XE3 (or XT20) in the same basket as the XT2 or upcoming H1..
That camera does pixel binning with it's 4K image whereas the XT2 oversamples so you don't get any aliasing and have a much cleaner/detailed image.
Here is an XT2 video promo.. all footage ungraded and mainly shot handheld.. as you can see zero problems with hair or other fine texture:

High Sierra is only required for VR and HEVC. I'm on Sierra and have the option to upgrade to 10.4

It happens with most smartphone cameras since they only compensate for pitch and roll, and not for the yaw axis.

A wired boom is a lot more reliable than wireless. Even if I have 5-6 wireless, I always boom for safety.

How do you like the Newshooter kit? I got it for this exact reason, but have yet to really try it out on a full day.

Well damn! What a deal.
I normally am a big fan of only hunting out the best best secondhand deals, but even I would be tempted by a price like that for it new. (well, if I didn't already own FIVE of them!)

Yep, highly recomended. The sale has to do with the frequencies I guess. I am getting the lower end (470-530 something) just in case, but the 566-608 will be sufficient I guess. Better options cost to the thousands per ch. so that is an amazing deal for most people.

Well... can't say for sure anything about that. But I can tell you that the LCD panel on the back of my D750 makes it much easier to tell if things are in focus compared to the LCD panel on the back of my Sony a6300 / a6500, despite the physical sizes being quite similar.

I’ll do more tests. It’s not that bad. My white balance was off

I do not know either, but you certainly have to pay for it!

502 is full HD panel, Focus is 720 (441 vs 294 ppi), obviously it has a more expensive panel (there are also oled monitors if you look higher). It is built by rubberized aluminum, the other obvious things you mentioned. There is the 501 also which is very close to the Focus. If you add one, two, three things, it makes them more expensive, naturally.
Videoassist is bulky, indeed.
