  1. I shot with a set of 3 C100's exclusively with a past employer. When I left and the company was looking to offload them, I begged to buy one because I'd grown so fond of them. There is not a better get-out-of-your-way camera with a high quality image at a low datarate than the C100. If you don't absolutely need 4k, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up at their current used prices.
  2. All aboard the hype train!! ?
  3. We still don't know how F mount lenses will perform with Nikon's mirrorless adapters. Say they perform flawlessly, then the change to mirrorless will be pleasant for most users. We'll find out in one week.
  4. Not a technical comparison, but these guys saved me the time to do my own testing months ago. Haven't looked back since ?
  5. This! It is in Nikon's best interest to cannibalize their own sales now to ensure the maximum amount of Nikon shooters remain loyal to the brand for years to come. There's no telling what the next generations of Sony or even Canon cameras could bring.
  6. I understand completely. I'm willing to take the risk, but I also know that I could be completely wrong. I'm one of the few that will rush out and take that risk, but won't complain if I get burned by it. Thanks for the back and forth, man. ✌️
  7. I'm confident because I believe the tech makes sense. Really... the signal remains as raw data off the sensor and processor and is recorded to the SDD just as it would the internal SD or cFast cards. The speed of the port and the speed of the drive make it all feasible. A layman to this side of the tech (me) can understand this much more easily than even pulling raw video from a feed through SDI to a monitor. BM has evolved as a company and so I'm confident that if they make this promise, they'll follow through with it. I could be wrong, but even if I am I'm only out $200 and I still get a nice SSD My username is my business name; there's nothing anonymous about it. Regardless, I only endorsed the Samsung t5 because that is what BM has shown in materials and at trade shows. I bought a t5 myself in preparation for the camera's launch, so I put my {Prime Day discount} money where my mouth is ?
  8. No specific issues with BM and SD cards. The issue was that the Pocket cam required fast write speeds that very few cards had at the time. Card manufacturers were labeling cards with max read speed which confused users when they wouldn't work in the Pocket. BM's only fault was not clarifying this for users. Ultimately, it wasn't their fault, but they could have helped educate users to alleviate the frustrations. Whether BM's intention or not, the Pocket was eaten up by consumers who had little to no knowledge of card speeds.
  9. I certainly was around for that. Those were early days. BM was still young & inexperienced and SD cards were not up to the same read/write standards that they are today. The landscape has massively shifted since then.
  10. Yes, it is the drive that BM has been showing on their website and live at trade shows.
  11. Blackmagic has been showcasing the feature pretty heavily since the camera's announcement. I think it's safe to assume that the functionality will be exactly as intended. BM covers the topic in two sequential sections on their website even.
  12. The GH5s with a speedbooster and XLR-1 gives you 90% of the functionality of the C100ii plus the added benefits of smaller size, 4k, slo-mo, HLG, dual native ISO, and more. If AF is a dealmaker/breaker, then you already know your answer.
  13. It seems these rigs are getting a fair bit of attention lately. Here's a review I made of the ASXMOV Scorpion. It's the exact same rig, just from another brand.
  14. 39 now... because it still needs to be said. It's insane to me that people are actually analyzing this footage.
  15. I'm one of those guys that shoots exclusively with small cameras, but builds them up to frankenrig levels when the job calls for it. There are benefits to both sides, no doubt. Side note: you can always slip a small camera in your big camera's bag when the job calls for it
  16. Yes. 4K HDR Blu Rays are a significant quality jump compared to regular Blu Rays. And, given my internet speed, 4K streaming content seems about to be as visually excellent as a standard Blu Ray. Does that makes sense? haha
  17. This looks amazing! Both in technical quality and content!
  18. I preordered from Hotrod immediately after the BM presentation and I can confirm that the Deposit is non-refundable line was definitely there when I ordered. I know for sure it was because it made me pause for a beat to decide if I definitely wanted to order at that moment.

    NAB 2018

Let me clarify: I mean the developments in what camera manufacturers are doing with SD cards, not the cards themselves. The BMPCC was revolutionary in offering internal 10 bit Prores and 12 bit raw log footage direct to internal SD cards. This was something never thought possible before. That sparked demand for Panasonic to add log to the GH4 and finally internal 10 bit to the GH5. I'd bet that those developments would not have been pushed forward without BM proving it was possible to consumers.
  20. The nice thing about the new Pocket is it should hold its value for a long time. Plus, if you preorder with a credit card through B&H they won't charge it until it ships

    NAB 2018

I think the one impact Blackmagic has truly had on the prosumer market is the continued developments in SD cards. Had the Pocket not pushed what people saw as possible in SD cards, I'd bet that even Panasonic's EVA-1 would be using CFast.
  22. You can always use a Vmount or other battery solution through the DC...it's about as run-and-gun as it can get.
  23. My theory is that they've learned from their past mistakes: massive demand with limited supply, relying on vendors to deliver critical components on time, and poor QC issues. This timeline should hopefully give them the time they need to iron out the manufacturing process. Don't forget the PR disasters of the original Pocket and Ursa Mini launches.
  24. Absurd to you and me, but I think the price puts this camera right in the crosshairs of some vloggers. Hell, people are vlogging with RED Weapons. The more Pockets BM sells, the more likely they'll make another. Keep the vloggers comin'!
  25. Right before that he literally says, "The product is finished." And then he proceeds to say that they just have to nail down the manufacturing process.... A lot of people are making the joke that they'll probably take another year to start shipping, but BM is a way different company than it was back in 2013. They'll deliver in September. That's my bet.
