  1. Well what I think sucks about all the films talked about on here that it is basically the same old shit, volume 2, 3, 4, etc,,etc. Hell can't these people come up with something NEW?? They Never had all these damn sequels years ago. Hell someone got off their ass and wrote a new movie, not some Jackass sequel just to make more Freaking money, to suck in young, screaming girls, to make even more money.

Hell they made Art back than, or at least tried too. I guess I am just a old turd that remembers movies that tried to entertain you with things you Never saw before, not some repeat crap of the same theme over, and over, and over. Christ!. This stuff is not Art, it's a easy as hell money grab! Rant over.

I just shoot video, so I set the front dial to shutter speed, because I was always changing it accidentally.

Well true I used it for still photography, so you are right, I would have to rethink that when using Video! Hmm, scratching my head!

Well I most of the time have always used a camcorder style camera for Video, and I just change ND filter more than anything. So I guess I hardly Ever change a wheel on them. With manual focus older lenses I just change the F stop. So once I set the FPS speed With a Wheel, I never touch it as they are out of the way, to not Have that happen accidentally for a reason.

Camcorder layouts are just, well Hands down more convenient than Any dual purpose DSLR style camera is. And that is why I like using them so much. I got spoiled back in my ENG days.

May I ask why you'd want to change the function of the aperture and shutter speed dials on an ongoing basis?

I am not sure if this why you are asking, but on  my Canon 1D series cameras I changed them all the time back and forth depending if I was using Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority. I never much liked using the front wheel as much as the rear wheel. I seemed to always be resting my index finger on the shutter button so was hard to think about both on the front. But was easy for ME to use my right thumb to use the Back Focus button or turn the rear wheel.

But it was a heaver camera to hold, and might have some bearing on that fact is why I did it that way, but same on my Olympus EM1 with a long lens.

  4. Well for all you, I am going to get one of these, well, maybe, hmm, maybe not, ahh next year, eh, they have a Pretend one here, maybe, maybe not, eh. At least you can look what it Might look like here!

Oh and by the way I am making a camera Just like it for 2200 bucks, It will be ready eh, maybe before I die, and I have not been feeling too well, but hell send your deposit to save your place in line. eh, 2000 bucks ought to work for me I guess, eh, I am working hard as hell on it Trust Me, eh.

  5. I think whats been made aware on this threads  that both of these cameras, hell ANY video camera, can be molded into what You want it to look like. There are LuTs for everything in this day and age, and guess what you can even make your own.

No 2 people I think ever see the same thing in reality exactly the same. I know women see a lot different than men do, colors wise they say, even on a lot of things not related to Video!!

So I guess that is why there is so many video camera makers, with so many different cameras. But this still proves the old saying, you have to go out and shoot, shoot, shoot, to get good at it, and with both of these cameras being new in a sense it will take time to learn them.

I think I have learned something here, and that is we all have different needs wants, and desires. And that is what makes life interesting. And nobody got in a fist fight.  Now that is how great this Forum is. Well done. :glasses:

Wow hyalinejim that is a impressive looking Stadium next to the Landsdown Tennis Club. Soccer maybe??

Apple phones suck way harder than apple computers... still it's a decent battle none the less. I've always used Apple, I got angry recently with how crap they are going now and thought about switching systems, used Windows again and asked myself what the hell I was thinking. Resolve 14 with MLVFS is great for my uses.

If you were Donald Trump you wouldn't know how to edit a video so which system you have would be mere semantics at such point.

    True, very true.

I ONLY have a Apple phone so I can use Facetime with my Kids, Grand Kids, Friends. Other than that they can stick it up, well Cook's ass.

As above, I don't know many people who would consider a 5D3 a novelty... takes a way better picture than a m43 sensor, it's multi purpose and better low light abilities are a big thing for some people. Anyway, how many people here are actually making a proper living off this stuff? I'm just shooting test vids ;) .

    What is windows 10?

LoL, I figured you for some kind of strange person that would use a Apple computer. No wonder yo have a 5D3!!:grin:  Well I must admit I have a iPhone 6s plus sad to say at times. Apple computers, well no way in hell LoL. I am retired, not Donald Trump!

Maybe you won it in a contest?? That would take you off the hook.

I have built every desktop computer i have ever owned for going on 20 years, probably hell of a lot longer, the way I want it, not what Apple wants, for about 1/3 the price they want.

  8. The 5D3 is a cool as hell camera. Better than the BMPCC in reality. But as it stands right now, I see it as more of a novelty camera than a practical full use camera.

If I had to make a living tomorrow with either a 5D3 or a GH5, well you know my answer to that ditty.

MLVFS. Feel like I'm beating a dead horse around here. Works better than GH5 4K 60p files imo. GH5 certainly has some nice features (and I may just get one in the future) but I don't think this thread proves that GH5 = MLRaw, just that you can get a similar colour out of it (you could do the same with any camera if you spent the time).

But it might be a BSOD in Windows 10. No real later support for it looks like. Are you running Windows 10?

You can even make the GH5 look like a $6000 Blackmagic Ursa Mini (Pro) 4.6k, which is even better!

The Ursa Mini 4.6 is definitely a step up from a GH5 when it comes to a Cine camera in all respects, output and ease of use. And how little time required to get that output like you have stated. Now does it have all the tricks a GH5 has, no. And I think that is what these discussions need to be about.

Is is about total output, or total ease of use, with a ton of extras thrown in to boot with the GH5. Sure if we have lots of money we can have 3, 4 different cameras. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can Only afford One system and that is, to put it "all my eggs in one basket" as they say.

So I don't see how most people on here can Not justify buying a GH5 for their overall needs. Is it the best Cine camera no, is it the best overall camera we can afford, I give that a nod to the plus side.

  10. So your telling me if your daughter is getting married, you are going on a trip of a lifetime, you are going to meet the Pope, you are going to use a 5D3 over a GH5? Hmm.

Now if you have all day to make a short well I can see using a 5D3, or using my AF100. I just can't see the average person on here gaining enough to to have a 5D3 over a GH5? Sure it is like a BMPCC, A nice output, but at what price for convenience do you pay? Is it really worth the Hassle, I guess that is what i am saying? Sure it has a beautiful output, the GH5 can have it also with knowledge, hyalinejim just showed that , and can do LOTS of cool tricks built in on top of that.

I would argue a Sony F3 has a better output with the 444 thingy than both these cameras. Cost about the same money in reality. But would I buy it over a GH5, hmm for output yes, for a overall experience hell no!

And this is what Andrew wrote on DPR, about the 5D3. Now I know we are talking about ML Raw here but...

  11. I like the second set on all of them better. If that is the GH5 you guys need to re think the 5D mkIII. Even if its not, who the heck, other than side by side, is going to see any difference in this. I do see more DR in the second set, so that helps, but who wants to give up all the benefits of the GH5 for what little you gain with Raw on the 5D.

Just send all those 5Ds to me, and I will give them to the "Little Sisters of the Poor". :grimace: And no, I have no sisters, only brothers.

And you did one hell of a great job on this comparison hyalinejim. 2 Thumbs UP! When you send me your 5D3 I will use your return address to send you a Cookie!

    Hello,

I normally approach bidding/quoting with a fixed day rate for filming/editing/travelling to keep it simple. If there is 1.5 days of travel, 1 day of filming and 2 days of editing then I quote 4.5 x Day Rate. I think of travelling as lost time where I could have been filming/editing.

However, there are always exceptions. At the moment, with new clients where I think there might be more work down the line with them, I'm offering a 20% introductory rate on my day rate on the first job (I'm very explicit in the final invoice that the day rate is at 20% discount) so I can get a foot in the door. This gives me a chance to show them the quality of my work and how easy I am to work with. Also, for a recent quote for a job in Finland with a new client, I quoted 1 day of travel where it was really 1.5, making a point of it but letting them know that I'd love to work with them. I may have got the job without the discount, but I wanted to increase my chances of securing it, especially as there should be more work down the line.

Generally I try to give myself a bit of wriggle room with the quote too. A lot of companies, especially smaller ones, will ask if there is anything I can do to bring the quote down.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

I am not sure I would lump shooting, and editing in as the same cost to do?

  13. Hell I don't know how they picked the order of the list. My 14-45mm kit lens is at 34 LoL. Now it is the best kit lens ever made for a m4/3. But I would not have it at the top of the list with the Noct!

One of these days, I'm going to have to learn to read an MTF chart. ?

Well it is pretty much the straighter the 2 lines and the higher those two lines are, is the better the lens is in one sentence LoL.

If the lines look like the first hill going up, and the first hill going down on a Roller Coaster, it is a total piece of shit lol.

  14. Just now, jonpais said:

They might have organized the list into categories: kit lenses, wide zooms, tele zooms, wide, normal and tele primes and so forth.

Yeah but that would not lend to anything about the popularity of them or maybe even their rating. What you are suggesting is what every other web site has. Just a big list, with no real meaning, of a lot of lenses.

  15. Well I have some eyeopening moments with the list myself, but I put it up there mainly for the list of that many lens in one place, and ease to check the price of them. Like I said I never have owned that many m4/3 lenses to start with. I have owned more Olympus 4/3 lenses than anything over the years related to Oly, Panny. I guess Nikon, then Canon FF lenses most I have had. But most of them are OLD lenses like me LoL. I only have 2 m4/3 lenses for my Panasonic AF00, and will buy no more of them for it. Will be Canon EF, or other brand MF used on it.

  16. Well the article states at the top that the ratings are based on "So to help you pick the best lens for you, we've listed the top 35 scoring lenses we've reviewed here."

Not sure how else they could have rated them and made everyone happy. Looks like the site based it on Their review of each lens. It is a pretty popular, legit website.

But i will admit it would not be in that order if I was doing it, but I probably have not owned over 7 or 8 of them so I would be biased as hell.

And the Panasonic 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 is a turd next to the Panasonic 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 for sharpness.
