BM were not fools to abandon that raw of their first Bmpcc4k to have their Braw.

They knew what was coming. I can't understand why Nikon could't.

They did that so they didn't have to keep paying for a CinemaDNG & Apple ProRes license also I would guess. Not sure the cost to do the Braw was cheaper than paying for the license, or if Braw is really better than CinemaDNG. Smaller files I guess would be one gain.

@PannySVHS's comment was "They went a bit overboard with grading, especially the red cloth of the suit is oversaturated" and @webrunner5 said while talking about the background colours "It is just a dull blob."

Sure, no-one said they wanted accurate, but some kind of ideal middle ground is implied.  You can't say that something is "too <something>" unless you're comparing it to something, and they didn't specify what that something was, just some sort of nice/desirable one-size-fits-all kind of idea.

If there's no "right" way to do it, then there can't be any wrong way to do it, and therefore no criticisms.  But that's not what was posted.....

Oversaturated and no detail is two different things. I know you have one, like it I guess and are defending it, I get it, but if it was so great everyone on here would have one, or still have it, and the world would be perfect. Hey guess what the world isn't perfect and neither is the GH5. It has it's good points and bad points, color, AF and detail is it's bad points to me. I didn't like mine, I sold it, simple as that.

Just because you like the videos above doesn't mean I have to. If you think that is the first trend like that there has been you must be 12 years old. Every new generation does stuff like that until they get older and figure out 12 people like it and they go broke doing it or show it to their dad and he disowns you and cuts you out of the will..

IIt's interesting to see forest scenes here. I often think Panasonic fails spectacularly with the greens and greys of woodland scenes, making everything look quite drab both in stills and video. It's not as pronounced in this vid but I still see a hint of it, I think.

You might be right about the colors more than the sharpness. Either way not a fan of it. It is just a dull blob. Really distracting. No clue why their cameras are so popular.

  4. Hmm I really liked the short, but still not a fan of the camera. MFT cameras on average to me just do not bring out far away background detail. I have a hard enough time at my age seeing detail lol, let alone seeing a camera that is not overall sharp. Yikes moment to me, maybe it is artistic to someone that can see. YMMV.

Also, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t seem to be a bitter, selfish and hateful gobshite , as that really does age people very quickly.

That is a very valuable statement to read for younger people. It is too late as you near old age, but yeah living in hate is a Really bad way to go through your life. You end up 50 at 30. You have killed yourself more than your enemy. Relax and smell the roses is a very good way to proceed. Time goes by scary fast, especially when you do realize your last drivers license photo makes you a candidate for a horror movie role.

  6. Yeah, if you are really great at something, no matter what it is, you can use the worse equipment out there and still be better than 95% of all the rest of the people with great equipment.

I think a lot of us on here, me included, send a very bad message to the people that are starting up in video, even photography, that you have to have some big ass, high dollar camera to get the job done.  That is about as far off as you can get from true.

It is what is between your ears that count, not the gear. Slow and easy like I have said, with any gear you can afford. There is no such thing as a bad camera, even Smartphones in this day and age. When I was young, yeah you had to have a high end camera,  especially for video, but the playing field is level now no matter the budget.

  7. Oh I think Ukraine has already won the war. Putin Really screwed up on this bone headed decision. Not sure Russia will ever recover from it, and Russia has lost the false narrative that their Army was strong and advanced. There will be more and more countries join NATO down the road and Russia will be boxed in forever. Putin has thrown all the people in Russia under the bus I am afraid.

I think down the road Russia will even loose what it already had in Ukraine. They will be driven out.

  8. Yeah, Sigma cameras have Always in some fashion been a total pain the ass to shoot. But out of the corner of your eye you look over and keep picking one up to use. Their output has always been, well different, but for the money the best you are going to get. Detail has always been their claim to fame.

My guess is RED is probably trying to force them into "license" the technology, presumably like they did with Apple.

Is there any benefit to using N-RAW over ProRes RAW?

I am not sure Red has ever let anyone do their thing. There sort of locked in Redraw by patenting every kind of compression known to mankind and then some.

  10. I would buy a BMPCC 4K and just learn how to edit and color. They have aa pretty great output. With Raw you can make it look like just about anything. It is not the easy way out, but if you want a great look you have to learn to figure out how to do it.

All these people you admire didn't just go out buy a cheap camera and make magic overnight. It takes years to get a certain look that stands out from the crowd. Video is not easy.
