  1. I've had that in my Amazon cart for a while 😄 200P
  2. Nice, you should pick one up! Not on sale anywhere in NA that I can find (Amazon, BH, Adorama) or eBay or AE 😞
  3. Where is it on sale? It just came out...
  4. I just picked up the Desview R6 for 5'' gimbal monitor and the Feelworld Lut7 pro for client monitor. FW Lut7 has pretty bad color rendering when compared to my ninja inferno, and the contrast is jacked and not adjustable. I regret this purchase, but at least I can use it in sunlight. Not to mention all the ports are in stupid places. Desview is passable but still not as good as the Atomos.
  5. Color calibration wise - I'm not sure either will be very good considering the terrible track record of Atomos screens and BMD's QC (latest is the 6K pro screen tint saga). Just look up atomos color cast or the reveiws on the $100 calibration cable... which can still leave two of the same units looking quite different. Having an SSD caddy might be more convenient than a USB-c drive seeing as how you now have to yet another thing up, connected by cable. If I was doing a lot of external recording I'd figure out the usb-c and monitor mounting situation first... No idea why they didn't go with SSD or NVME slots, would make life so much easier. Atomos is popular because quite frankly they had no competition for a while. I guess it's a niche space so that's why the cost to quality ratio isn't really there, there's just no reason to make a better product if you're the only game in town. I'm not saying they're terrible, I have a Ninja Inferno for monitoring and it's fine, it just could be better (like everything else in life). The $100 calibration cable really grinds everyone's gears though, so infuriating, especially when you buy a unit and it has an orange cast you can't adjust.
  6. While there are tons of shilly clickbait "channels" on YT, there are people that make good videos. I've watched a bunch of New Layer lighting gear reviews and they're quite helpful as he compares fan noise and C800U meter readings. Blackmail might be slightly click baity, but he puts a lot of effort into making those videos and not random lifestyle BS. I'm thinking of starting a cheap gear review channel too but it's so much work I don't know if I can be bothered.
  7. I'm guessing at least $15K USD for the new C300S!
  8. If you want some criticisim: Shot matching could be a bit better (contrast especially). Voice EQ could be a bit better, but from the sounds of it audio was on a budget so there's only so much you can do. Highlights seem a bit nuclear (maybe combine with the high contrast makes it more noticeable).
  9. Well, it seems like you just need to decide whether you want AF or not, it's that simple :)
  10. I'm just saying that I've used the same setup with my a7siii with no issues, so the fact that a7siii is showing this behaviour is an issue. I get that super shallow dof is difficult, but the a7siii does it fine so surely sony could add another mode to make things better. Secondly, I have worse examples but I forgot to put them in as I'm currently working on several projects so you can imagine that those are the priority. Maybe I will make another video in a few weeks.
  11. +1 SLR Magic Vari ND II There's only a few threads on this (use google). Threads might slightly exaggerate how good it is, but to me looks like one of the best ones. I switched over from the Tiffen's a year or two back. I just bought another one even after watching these toxic YT reviews for "THE BEST ND FILTER EVAAA". They have spent zero dollars on marketing this and there's no direct comparisons out there. My unscientific test I just did with Sony Cam shows warming of -400K (makes it warmer), no tint change. One of the reasons why I got the filter was because at the time, I was thinking of getting a black magic camera, and I wanted something that had good IR filtration as well. Apparently this one does pretty good so you don't need an extra IR filter, and they have the 4-stop IEND which you can add, which has good IR filtration as well, and increases the range to 10 stop (2-6 to 6-10). And the front thread is 86mm to help with the vignetting, not sure if this actually makes a difference but why not. I broke the tiny handle on it, but it's easier to operate without it, I want to take it off my new one but it seems glued in.... The only thing that seems better on the Polar PrO is the marketing and the lens cap, that actually looks very functional. Otherwise it's +$100 into branding and fancy packaging.
  12. And now with video - blurred faces and sound distorted. Full screen for maximum pulsing...:
  13. Might not be as bad as Panny, but the fact that it's there whereas it's practically unnoticeable on the A7III means it could be improved. On my shots they were very distracting 😞
  14. Just did more testing, A7SIII definitely needs some tweaks. Just filmed my partner while they were on zoom calls, the A7SIII is quite sensitive which has the unfortunate effect of wobbling and pulsing the background when the subject nods (or is, you know, human). The A7III is much less sensitive so it's actually better for interviews. I manually set the eye focus and speeds to 1 for the A7SIII and left the A7III in the default speeds. Again 50mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.8. Hopefully more people pipe up to Sony about this and we can get another mode in there, as it stands the A7SIII isn't great in this application. I can't believe no one else has noticed this?!
  15. We've come full circle boys (and girls). Is it just me? I'm noticing some pulsing backgrounds as the eye AF works it's "magic". Sony magic so strong I got Panasonic footage. Ok it wasn't that bad, it 95% was fine, subjects were always in focus but the focus pulse combined with focus breathing is really annoying if you notice it. Maybe because I noticed it in some of the "bad" shots I started noticing it everywhere! It's a very quick 1 or 2 frame pulse every once in a while, blink and you miss it. I used the Zeiss 50mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.8 with a typical 2 camera set up, maybe a bit closer than usual. I noticed the same thing in both cams. I also noticed that weirdly - in one shot I got what I can only describe as a lens correction pulse - for one frame as the focus shifted, the vignette correction seemed to flick off for one frame. Very weird and annoying on the 50mm F1.4. Firmware was PRE V2.0 Paid job so no examples, sorry. Thankfully it shouldn't affect the final product. Probably the best solution is to go easy on the Toneh and shoot F2 50mm and maybe F2.8 or more for the 85mm+ for now. If you think about it, if focus is 100% locked to the person's eye, then at very shallow DOF this issue is going to crop up as most people are not robots and move back and forth. BUT, I've just looked back at my A7III footage and don't notice this issue, so I do think some tweaking can be done for the A7SIII...
  16. I love the slr magic vari nd. They have zero marketing unfortunately for them, but it's very good. I came from the tiffen vari nd which was trash. Also because of the lack of marketing I have seen no comparisons to other nd filters, but the few posts/videos that exist convinced me to try it and I'm glad I did. Released years before the polar pro and less than half the price, but probably just as good if not better. Plus their system with the iend is the same price as one polar pro filter and way more versatile.
  17. Obviously you're not using it right, you need to void the warranty, remove the back, and install the copper heat you have to make yourself, after purchasing a $4,000 USD camera 😄 /S But seriously, you might have a bum unit? I'm assuming you're running the latest firmware.
  18. I went mixpre3 (v1). Kinda wish I got mixpre6 instead because them you can do 2 boomed and 2 lavs. I wish the new version could send a signal with limiters engaged to camera while recording 32bit, but the signal flow doesn't allow that.
  19. If you haven't been following camera news there's basically two options, sony or canon. A7siii just works, but you really need to grade well (imo) to make it shine. I've been honing my skills and I like the results I am getting. My only gripe is that it is not bitingly sharp because it's not really oversampled, and the noise reduction is very aggressive and can't be turned off. However, it's definitely a money maker because no one (clients) cares and we are all still delivering for 1080p output half the time. It just works. Lots of choice for lenses. Great on gimbals. The canon r5 8k looks amazing but I don't think it's 10 bit and the codec and file sizes are too hard to work with. If you only shoot short clips the 4k hq looks pretty darned good and could work. I'm not a fan of red skin tones or the shadow recovery, or the borderline false advertising and lingering doubts on whether it will last through the day without overheating and locking me out. Also the RF eco system is still very new and hella expensive. C70 is the aps-c option, not really floating my boat because of the sensor size but everything else is gravy if you don't need ff. The speed booster cuts the af coverage significantly. My vote would be to wait and see what comes out in the next year if you can. A7iv might be an affordable option. Maybe canon will release a full frame c70 but I doubt it will be affordable, none of their ff cine camera are.
  20. Ok, seeing how the price is only $300USD more or less all can be forgiven. I suppose they could always make "pro" versions later on if these see success, and get better reviews than the first generation.
  21. I've been using the ignore user feature for years, it's amazing for one's mental health!
  22. Welp, I'll wait a week to see if it bricks anyone's camera...
  23. TBH It's kind of dumb that it only records 7hrs uncompressed considering how cheap SD cards are for audio. Using an online calculator, a 24hr 44.1kHz 32-bit stereo file would be 30.5GB... so this basically has 10gb built in. 64gb microSD on amazon is anywhere from $8-$15, 32gb is like $5. I don't know the prices of integrated storage is but it couldn't add that much to the prices...
  24. Looks pretty interesting, not to be negative but it would be even better if you could control when the recording starts/stops and/or if you could use sd/microsd. On a longer shoot day you'll need to lug around a computer to offload the files to make sure you have space for uncompressed recording. Other than the lack of locking 3.5mm it looks like really good for a small system. Still looking forward to the deity transceiver as that does TC, hopefully they've been working on adding 32bit float recording to it though, as it would suck if it was 24bit only.
