  1. ... Wut? No wonder Canon is "winning". When your fans think they are trying to keep their products as cheap as possible 🙂 Thanks for doing us a solid Canon 🙂 I need to get some Canon fans to support me! I really do wonder what's going to happen with the FX6. What can sony cripple- no raw, no touch af (yuck), no 120 (bad move), maybe crappier codecs? It's hard when the FX9 already has some annoying compromises to the crop (aps-h essentially for "FF"4k). Not to mention the awful menus and giant $$$ backpack for raw. I wonder if they can ignore the c70 or if it's going to push them to make the FX6 have no crop and super sampling with FX9 sensor... Or will they use the slightly mushy a7siii sensor instead. Tough place for them to be now. Both lines make good images, Canon is probably better this round if you have unlimited money and don't shoot low light / need shadow detail. I don't think I can afford to switch until RF has some cheaper (and lighter) options.
  2. It's mini xlr input and the AF is 60% coverage with the SB (which is only guaranteed to work with 3 lenses right now). Still interesting though.
  3. Just watched the CVP video on this. Damn, looks really good. Wonder how the FX6 is going to fare, C70 is better than I thought, only thing that sucks for me is APS-C and no tamron style e-mount zooms (small and light weight). Gotta say Canon C-line is killing it this round, Sony Cine division fell asleep at the wheel. The hybrid division is the opposite, Canon cripple timer really screwed the R5 over whereas the A7SIII they really tried to make it a workhorse (except no oversampling 😞 😞 😞 That being said, Canon is certainly charging for their eco system so can't count Sony out, those Tamron zooms make a huge difference too for size, weight and price. I'd be swayed if it was full frame and RF had some light zooms.
  4. He does mention the noise issue towards the end, hopefully that gets sorted, looks pretty bad zoomed in (which is one of the use cases for 12K)
  5. Andrew most be loving this, everyone has forgiven Canon and forgot the r5 🙂 RIP consequences.
  6. That joystick looks like it's going to get knocked off within the first week 🙂
  7. Even though I'm probably getting this cam (not the first batch though), the resolving power makes me sad 😞 At the end of the day the speed vs the resolution wins in $$$ terms since 90% of people don't care if it's sharp or not and you'll end up watching a video on a phone. It's just easier to work with and you take a slight hit to IQ that only makes you cry but no one else. The NR is also next level sludge but it "works" so yay? I'd probably take the Canon image despite it's trash shadow recovery, but dat cripple timer and 30 minute limit... for $4K. It's too hard to work with that camera on regular jobs, so A7SIII it is... Anyone else getting clients asking for 100mb videos for their streaming software that can't handle anything else?...
  8. Can't wait to bring this on set... 😄
  9. I think C is 4K, the rest, I don't know, nor would I expect to see a big difference between the two modes. 4K works for me!
  10. It's funny that after all the hype over the new camera drops, the A7SIII that's the "least" exciting of the bunch (basically a solid camera release, finally) wins the day. At least for solo corporate work.
  11. That's my memory of it but you're more than welcome to watch the p/reviews on YT and report back your findings to confirm or disprove.
  12. It doesn't matter what they say, all their fanboys will defend them even though it's obvious they want to protect their rumored C-series cameras with what is almost certainly the same sensor and capabilities. It's so obvious why it's crippled... They basically don't have to do anything, they're #1 in Japan, they don't care what you or I think. They're probably selling R5's like hot cakes, and even if they don't, they're selling enough of them to reduce the sensor costs for the C-series cameras and increase their margins, so it's win win win for them. Just look at some of the responses on the forum, people willing to frankenstein a $4K camera in 2020 because it's a canon, who would probably previously make fun of your solutions to cool down a $1,500 A6500 from 2016.
  13. You have to follow the camera news, CIZ disables AF in A7SIII unless they change it down the road.
  14. The zoom feature can be used with clear image zoom, the digital zoom. This doesn't work with the A7SIII as clear image zoom disables AF. There are some aps-c lenses with motorized zooms (affordable), but the full frame ones are in the $10K+++ range. So for the A7SIII, this isn't going to work.
  15. On the rumor page it said DFD AF system. Guaranteeing another "win" for Panasonic... If they thought S1 sales were disappointing hope they're ready for more...
  16. You could literally post a frame from R5 or Arri Alexa, say it's a Sony A7siii frame and someone would say the color isnt that good and that something is wrong with the skin tones.
  17. A7iii was released 2 years ago for half the price. It does sometimes overheat but I have gotten the warning only twice after turning off the auto distortion correction (which does cause OH with some lenses). It was also never advertised and hyped by Sony as the best thing since sliced bread, mega hyping the video features. Even the classic poster boy for overheating, the Sony a6500, for $1500 was never advertised or hyped as a professional video tool, at least nowhere near the R5 is. Meanwhile canon fanboys salviating over the R5 like it was the Messiah... Then it OH after 30 mins and needs a 2hr cool down, and cost 4k, so yeah, I gotta pull you up on this. A lot us, Sony users included wouldn't mind an amazing R5 because we would buy and use it it too... But for the average corporate shoot it's too unreliable.
  18. New accessory, attaches via hotshoe, produced by Tilta... 😄
  19. I'm happily using my A7III for paid work and so are many others... so, I guess? I sold an M43 lens to someone that ranted away at how trash the Sonys were and how they fell apart on him after a year... Mine looks more or less the same as the day I bought it, and all the buttons still work fine. I don't love the A7III but I love it for its price point and capabilities when it was released. It has many flaws and things that I don't like, but the old school of "it's not metal and hard therefore trash and will fall apart" is... old school. The materials aren't "really cheap", I don't do handheld so how it feels doesn't matter as much, but there's nothing wrong with how the A7III feels, the menus aren't great but they're fine, I set up the custom menu and I can scroll... Why do you think people use BMPCC 4K? For it's useability on a gimbal? for the tilting screen and long battery life, as well as external ssd and no af-c? It's for the IQ and price... So yeah, lots of people will put up with whatever you apparently "can't" put up with. I can't deal with no AF-C but I don't tell other people they need it and then ask them why they don't...

    Panasonic GH6

Yes but remember the rumors about Sony not allowing PDAF on the sensors they sold to Panny... and Sony is essentially the King of sensors right now... So Panny would have to find someone else for the sensors. I'm not an expert in the field, but who else makes good sensors that can sell them to Panny?
  21. On the other hand, I hate using my GH5 and prefer using my A7III 🙂 To each their own. While useability is important, as long as the camera isn't getting in my way I prefer to get better IQ. Just because something feels "plasticky" is the weirdest reason why I wouldn't use a camera...
  22. I did find a lot of footage to lack the feel of the bigger cams, but it is what it is. Only thing in the lower price range with "thick" color seems to be the blackmagic cams. Also it's really hard to tell with the YT compression 😞 makes everything look worse no matter what. I think PB and the chinese review show that you can finesse the camera to look pretty good. It's not as good as FX9 but you can get surprisingly close, and certainly more than good enough for paid work. I mean people are making money with A7III and this certainly isn't worse. Trades a bit of sharpness detail for better codecs, useability, and higher frame rates. I do find it takes a lot of post to get the image where I want it, but that's the trade off for AF performance and cost, and it works for me (and others). If pocket 6K had AF for $3,500, or even UMP Pro G2 for 10K those would be killer. At the end of the day, the result is good enough. Just compare it to some of the grades you see on commercial productions streamed on Netflix/Amazon, some of those are AWFUL combined with the compression. I'd wager the "lackluster" footage is still better than a lot of the shows you could stream. The High ISO combined with NR does look pretty crap though I'll give you that, pretty much cellphone quality at the point but it is in the dark so there's that. Yes the SOOC isn't ideal, but what matters to me is that I can process it to look good!
  23. You didn't like the Chinese review? I thought footage looked good, but I don't think he said weather it was log or not. Also PB's review I thought he looked pretty good in it when filming himself.
  24. I though about this too, reason probably being the right side is where the grip is, so if you block the grip, how to hold the camera. Also most of the gimbals have the arm on the right side... So there's basically no good place for the jacks, left side being the best compromise.
