I second that. Was doing a short with a powerbank in my pocket or hooked to a tripod. Camera loads slower than the speed it takes power while filming. So in between shots the battery can load from the powerbank. Not perfect but helpful. Just watch out the flimsy usb-c connection.

You must use a powerbank with PD(powerdelivery), so it charge the battery when the camera rolls.

Are there easier options for mics that can be directly plugged into the mic so there is no post editing/syncing of audio?  A mic that can mount on the camera or off/boom/stand that has decent quality for interviews?  I don't need an NTG3 level quality.

I have the NTG4+  that i have used on a A7S with good results.

Cool! Cannot wait to hear how you like it! I got the Unitor labeled version. The Soligor version was pretty well received back then by photomagazines. If you look at the original magazine ad, you can see, Soligor was selling it as a pro lens. I bought mine as a poor mans Minolta 35 - 70:) The Minolta in version III is supposed to be one of the best 2x zooms. So it is a bit adventerous that you bought that Hanimex since you own the Minolta, Andrew.:)  @BTM_Pix That´s a steal! 2x zooms are something to check out, as often written on this forum. My Tokina 25 to 50 is really cool, giving cinematic quality to light by an instant. Mine is even parfocal at 25 and 50mm!

One thing from other testers about this lens, wide open it is very sensitive to reflections and backlight but otherwise still nicely resolving on sensors.

Back to the S1. If Panasonic can give us perfect HD on both the S1 and S1H up to 60p I would feel spoiled! Until now it seems worse to than G6 regarding mushiness of textures and aliasing. There is one thing I wanna share with you. I hope it´s only an exception. My camera shut off with 25% power left on the display. I was using the original battery.

i had the same problem 1 time with the battery under cold condition.

From what I saw on youtube, the Soligor 35-70 seems to have very little contrast.  Am I missing something here???? I mean, I tend to like an image that is not "clinical" but the Soligor seems to have VVVEEERRRYYYY low contrast.

The guy here has written after, that with a lenshood und close to F4 get sharper and footage with more contrast and fewer haziness

Indeed. Just for FD mount though. You can get the lens for less than 20 usd. I also have the version with separate focus and zoom rings, which I think is preferred. It is creamy and still pleasantly resolving. Highly recommanded. My FD adapter is from cieco, an adapter manufactor from Poland. It is pretty unique in not having a locking ring like the other FD adapters have. Beautifully build.

    Thank you !

    Have you this adapter ?

Puh, I had to thank you for this before even read completely. I had been worried about the expense due to the current times. Bought it last year as my Christmas gift and have been struggling a bit. I took me a few talks and evenings with friends to really start to appreciate this camera. But these talks about lenses and my thinking about lens choices and FOV and all that gave me back that exitement. Awesome to be able to shoot with a beast like this. Putting a Unitor branded Soligor 35-70mm 2.5-3.5 zoom  on there and cinema heaven is at your palms. Now all one has to do is to put it infront of the camera as well. cheers and thanks for all that inspiration all those years, @Andrew Reid

Is this the lens you use ?

A 1" 4K camcorder is handy for when you're manning it. But for an unmanned camera on a tripod? You just want to hit record and walk away, without needing to worry about if it will overheat / battery go dead / time limit be hit, and that is what mirrorless cameras like the Panasonic GHx series is great at doing at a very low price.

All cameras should have the time limit lifted.

Why the limit of 73 minutes? Because that is what your biggest card could do?? Or something else?

The NX1 with the hacked firmware after 72-74 min goes in a programming overrun and stop recording. The clip is corrupted after, and you can only restore it with a recovery program, and then are artifacts and audio distortion in it.

Thanks for your comments--they are well received and considered.

How did you like the IBIS of the NX1? I'm really attracted to the ergonomics and the sharp, clean footage I've seen. LOG is not that important to me---I have several cams that can do that. But nothing that looks that clean.

The NX1 have no IBIS but EIS with some warping. But is good for static shoots.

I am also curious to know how the V-Log in 4K60p is with the S1 since it is 8 bit. Useable or would you swap to a r709 profile?

Would 4K recording work with just like a Sandisk SD 95mbs card or does it have to be a faster UHS II card?

Appreciate the answers to my previous post!

The clip i have share before is shot in 4k50p V-log 8bit

Yes the Sandisk 95mbs works in all modes..

So you can't just throw a LUT on and be done?

    Or convert to ACES?

Sorry I am asking so many questions. I haven't had enough time to shoot real-world video projects so I just want to make sure I am prepared for my next video job.

Yes you can, but i don't like so much the result.this are with the nicest LUT

Looking to find out a few things and was hoping some people on here might have some answers.

I personally own a GH5 and I am about to start a full time job where I am buying video equipment.

I am looking at getting the S1 with the sigma 24-70 2.8 zoom lens.

I was wondering how often people encounter moire with this camera?

Also curious about battery life and how many batteries you recommend for a days shooting.

Anyone tried this combo with a ronin-S?

Anything else you think I should keep in mind then let me know. Intend on getting the vlog firmware update for it and shoot in V-Log most of the time.

i never had moire in my shoots when i use 4k

1 battery is about 70-80 min of continuos shooting, i think with 3-4 you are fine. i use a powerbank for weedings to charge the battery in camera, so i need only 2.

i use the S1+24-105 on Crane 2 and Weebill-S and both are fine, later a bit lighter..

I find V-log is a bit noise in shadows, i use natural or flat profil, V-log only for greenscreen, where i have enough light.

    Hi Andrew Reid,

    I'm Gauthier camera assistant.

We organise our set up for our next short film and I'was wondering the weight of 1 minute video 4K 10bit 422 from the Panasonic S1 ?

Maybe you can enlighten me on this subject ?

Thanks you very much for your time

Hi, about 1-1,1 Gb per minute for 4k 10bit 422 mov

Indeed. Other users have complained about it, gotten a bigger backpack and replaced by the more or less equally light AirCross 2 contender : ) take a look on the YT page comments section:

Some other comments of different nature in this another YT page too:

Yes, but weebill s have some advantage over moza aircross 2 using S1: size, instant underslung mode, no need of L-bracket, direct charge...i hope that next firmware bring better stability, because first testers don' t had this problems...

  14. 1 hour ago, Slothorp said:

I have seen users complaining about that but never had this issue with the older firmware (1.9).

Now i have installed 1.9 and is a bit better. But when i compare to the Crane 2 the stabilization is worse on roll axis...

You can perfectly balance it on the Zhiyun weebill S with just a counterweight. It even works with a heavy lens such as this combo : metabones speed booster + canon fd 35mm + iscorama 36.

I have the weebill s with Panasonic S1 24-105 Firmware 1.93 and the roll axis wobble in all setups. You have noticed this with the older firmwares ?

Personally I would shoot baked in on some sort of neutral profile. You’d wanna shoot 10 bit over 8 bit 4k.

Always shoot at higher f stop so you can pull a clean key on details like hair or the shirt / jersey. F8 if possible. Make sure you have enough light and make sure they’re far enough away from the screen so you don’t get green kickback on the side of the face / hair.

As far as lighting, I would kinda think you’d want a little more backlight or a little falloff on the face. The frames you posted feel very evenly lit. Are you shooting waist up?

The original file is from S1 in 4k 10 bit Vlog.

It was shot in F4, and i was near on the greenscreen ( not much space in my office ?). So thats can be the problem with the green kickback in my face...

No, i shoot only shoulder hight( the clip is not reframed)

    8 bit 420.
Probably the worst thing you could do for both V-Log and greenscreen.

The original file is 10 bit 422 MOV. i have only render a cut and forgot to set bit deep in Premiere..

There are several problems. You should light your green screen to 40 IRE, this is too bright. Also there is a big spill on your glasses which requires some time to play with to get the desired results.

Anyways, I applied a conversion LUT from V-log to Rec709, added contrast, crushed the blacks, so there is no noise when your hair moves, also added some warmth by pushing the WB. To enhance the greenscreen I just pulled the greens up at the HUE vs SAT curve.

The ultrakey did the work with the default settings :)
