Be careful with them. Aside who their founding father is : X they promise you for free and try to charge you some time later on with the threat they will delete your content if you won't upgrade (?!) towards the premium rate. Looks like pretty fishy to my book. They did it with their previous 50GB offer.

Ok , good to know! I use only the free 15gb to transfer files when wetransfer is to small..

    Hey,

I'm currently producing a feature length documentary and need to send it to a few people, but keep it very private, disable downloads and disable link sharing beyond my control etc.

I was hoping to use Google Drive, as that lets me do all of those things. Disable downloads, viewers will need to request access to the video, and I can take access away from individual people as and when it's necessary. Sounds perfect, but unfortunately, I've got the cursed 'We're processing this video. Check back later or download the video now.' A message that's shown for 3 days now on an .MP4 created in Premiere using the YouTube preset. It's only 1.5gb, so shouldn't be taking this long to process.

In the search of an alternative, I thought of using Vimeo. I could change the password every couple days and only let the necessary people know the new one, but they've removed the password option unless you pay, and I have enough subscriptions as it is. Also, 500mb weekly limit on the free account... what's the point?

YouTube's private links are ok, but I fear I'll have to keep deleting and reuploading to keep track of exactly who can view it.

Dropbox also forces you to pay $199 a year to unlock the 'disable downloads' function.

Shirley there's something out there that fits the bill... Or even batter, a way to get around Google Drive's ludicrous processing?

I have a Plex server - is there a way I can utilise that to host it privately, with the necessary restricted access described above?

first 15gb are free with crypted access

Actually, this is something I tried last year but didn't enjoy the experience of the Pocket so switched to the Action which I much preferred.

However, I made the assumption (doh) that the Action had a 'narrow' mode same as the GoPro. It doesn't so I sold it to someone on here actually.

But otherwise yes, it's the kind of thing I am looking to achieve in principal except in my case it will be the same, principal and back up for all 'entrances, exits and walking stuff' as in the Sony ZV1 (as I'm pretty sure it's going to be), will be on my freestanding monopod in front of me whilst I flick between stills and video clips with a pair of S5's handheld and if the S5's lose focus (on the video side) the Sony footage gets used, but if they don't, I'll use the S5 material.

Then I will extend it's role to second angle most of the ceremony as in keep it rolling for the duration as either a backup I can worst case scenario (if the principal camera had an issue) make a decent ceremony highlights, or as now intended, simply another angle.

My only other issue with the Pocket was I found the whole thing a bit delicate. You can chuck a GoPro in your bag etc but have to be so much more careful with a Pocket and that's something I was aware of and wish to avoid.

Just tested the S5 again before I push any button on a ZV1 and nah, still won't.

Admittedly, I am trying in the worst conditions which are backlit with dappled light leaves causing a distraction and then pure 100% full on sun backlight and then 90 degrees to sun lighting.

Because these are the conditions I mostly have to work with on a wedding day and any piece of kit needs to handle 'real world' use and not conservative testing.

The 20-60 failed every time. Not a single sequence would it keep focus.

The 85mm did much better and only occasionally lost focus, but still not reliable enough.

Fairly static stuff, even backlit, all pretty good and no complaints for either lens, but the 85mm is better.

I have a theory and could be wrong but it's shooting wide open, because the background is so OOF with the 85, the subject has more contrast.

Well it doesn't, - it has the same contrast, but the background just has much less than with the f3.5-5.6 kit lens.

Plus there's more compression with the 85 so even less contrast.

But unless anybody has a magic pill or another firmware update at some point can fix this (and I doubt it until such time as Panny goes phase), I need to go to another solution.

I think it's a good one and instead of 4x S5's, it's simply a case of 3x S5's + ZV1 for limited but specific use and extending it's useage as a backup/second angle ceremony camera plus will make a good personal/genuine pocket camera.

Only other option I'm considering is the RX100 VA. I had a IV a few years back so have experience with these cameras and actually shot an entire 3 day hybrid capture project in the Faeroe Islands with a single unit, so know it's capabilities.

Price is more or less the same and whole lot cheaper than a 4th S5 with a lens!

I think I'm now sorted in principal.

I have the best result in single point mode. now in the new firmware combined with human detection, but not tryed yet.

My second angle camera is the Sony 6400 with powerbank on a free monopod. No record limit and fast reliabel AF.

I brain-stormed it, slept on it overnight and now have a couple of options...

First of all, I have also read quite a few reports  about how great the AF is now and in certain circumstances, it is actually quite good. But not with a subject moving forwards or backwards. It just isn’t and anyone who says otherwise is smoking something.

But that aside, alternatives because as things stand, it doesn’t work for me and it’s never going to become reliable enough, so...

Option 01 = Sony ZV1 on freestanding monopod purely for entrances, exits, confetti etc. As above, I’m taking maybe 10 x 10 seconds captures per job. The eye AF is reported to be excellent and it’s much cheaper and more compact/lightweight than using a MILC.

Option 02 = a GoPro mounted on the hotshoe of each hybrid use S5. Simply capture any scene flicking between stills and video with the 85mm on one body and the same with the 35mm on the other, plus simply activate either (or both) GoPros set to narrow, for those 10x10 situations.

Both are relatively low cost options when you consider the lifespan of useage is targeted at 3 years or 75 jobs.

The GoPro option could be quite good as it simply targets whatever I am shooting in terms of stills or video at any given time, but at the same time, it is a pair of GoPros stuck on top of cameras which I’m not so keen on for a number of reasons.

I think the little Sony is the best option and has more flexibility as a camera.

I dont know your position of the second camera for entrance/confetti, but i have mount a osmo pocket with a magic arm on my monopod. So i have a second gimbal perspectiv to my main camera for this use

Panasonic 85mm f1.8 has turned up.

First impressions, it's light, compact and well built.

Second impression is that the AF seems marginally better than the kit lens that was 'OK' and much (MUCH) better than the Sigma 56mm f1.4

In fact, I am cancelling my order for the Sigma 16mm and 30mm f1.4's and probably returning the 56mm f1.4

I'm going to do some more thorough tests tomorrow but it seems that it's true that the L Mount Alliance may share a lens mount, but they don't all share their protocols as much as they might.

I don't need ultra-amazing AF, but there are times when I need it to work and it 'seems' at least, that Panasonic glass with Panasonic bodies is the way to go.

So back to my original plan and will await the announcement of the Panasonic 24, 35 and 50mm f1.8's and work with that set instead.

Maybe even 1 less body as I am actually quite impressed with the IBIS and it's only a total of less than 10 minutes I actually need a monopod for dual photo/video at the same time and that will save me the cost of one full body.

But the new 85 is looking good. But then I thought the Sigma 56 was...but I have done a little more testing before opening my gob this time 😉

Panasonic AF motor scans with 480 hz the scenes and gives the DFD system faster information for contrast AF.

    Sigma don´t have this technology..

But sometimes DFD truly sucks  ( no reaction in AF-C, only AF-S works fine )

@TomTheDP I could attach some lead weights to the bottom of my camera? 😬

But seriously, the massive advantage of using a freestanding monopod, light or heavy set up, is that whilst that is rolling, I can shoot stills at the same time, ie, it’s like having another me with me.

Weight does indeed stabilise, but it also fatigues and for the last couple of years, my filming combo of; monopod, cage, body (XT3 and prior to that XH1) powerbank, adapter, lens, added up to quite a bit to keep picking up and moving one handed for 10+ hours.

I decided to put my money where my mouth is and ordered the Sigma 56mm this afternoon. I don’t need it right now, but need to play/try it and already have a 58mm VND, so also ordered a cheap 55-58mm step up ring.

Body and lens, 1kg / 2.2lbs in American. Mucho lightweight even on the monopod!

In what mount you have order the sigma ?

That is the one area where for my third body, I am actually considering the S1H with it's unlimited recording...

Also for the cooling as this 3rd unit designated 'pure video' can be sitting on a tripod in direct sunlight for over 1 hour at 40 degrees C / 100+ F.

Actually not had any problems with overheating in this scenario with my old Sony camcorder, but I suspect an S5 as good as it is at not overheating, probably wouldn't last beyond 30 mins (if that) under such circumstances.

The above is an extreme rarity, but has to be considered and the norm is more like 30-40 mins in the low to mid 30's in direct sun as Brits getting married in France like to get married in the middle of the afternoon in order to maximise their post-ceremony drinking time.

Stop/start recording at appropriate points is not an issue for me and I think this can even be done remotely with the app in a pinch, so it's more for the cooling aspect.

The S1 record with no limit in HLG 1.5 h the ceremony in church with 28 degress.

    Tested this august..

Nah, my only wedding this year was 29th July and the other 24 either got cancelled or moved to 2021.

Shot 3 mini promo type commercial jobs though and I personally thought the results were excellent. As did the clients but I’m speaking subjectively.

Excellent compared to my previous workhorse of XT3 which I was not unhappy with (but needed ‘more’ in various departments hence the move to Panny).

And also excellent in that I was still learning the camera and playing with settings on each job.

Plus a final excellent in that I was ‘only’ using the 20-60mm kit lens and all 3 jobs were low light so I can already imagine what the f1.8 primes are going to be like. As in perfect.

Still waiting on my Sigma 45mm f2.8 though it’s on it’s way (and have preordered the 85mm f1.8) plus waiting delivery for the Smallrig L bracket to give the body an extra 1/2 inch or so of depth. Oh and the Freewell 2-5 VND.

I still think it’s the pick of the bunch, at least for my needs vs; XT4, R6, Z6ii and A7Siii. But as I keep saying, the ONLY real test will be my first wedding of the year in April next year because nothing is like the real thing, - it just cannot be replicated.

I am sorry for this, i have made 5 of 21 this year, all others postponed to 2021( o maybe not ;( )

    I am happy with the S1, MC 21 and Canon 16-35 2.8, 35 1.4, 85 1.2 and the 24-105 for gimbal, maybe in future a native 50 1.8

I don't like Nicest either, but yes it gets the closest out of the ones I tried. Below is a quick LUT comparison. For me Nicest always seems to turn out too dark like I under exposed (maybe I am underexposing?). But GC always seems right the min I apply the LUT.  Only in the last image (Ground Control + Noam Kroll) did I slightly adjust the highlights and shadows.

That does sound pretty cool, I'll see what Noam does with his LUT, if its not as good as the GHAlex one I may buy that one instead.

Try this one, is a modified Nicest Lut, is not bad

    https://gamut.io/product/v-log-conversion-lut/

but the Leeming Lut has more DR and colors are more accurate

Got mine today from Best Buy, a few days early apparently. Getting some motor noise when it’s close to its limits, don’t remember the original one ever doing that, it’s pretty noticeable. Might have to return, unless someone can confirm that this is normal?

Have you tested the autocalibration. On the first version sometimes this resolve the problem with the noise

  11. 1 hour ago, TomTheDP said:

Yeah 85% might make more sense in a controlled situation but if I am just shooting in natural light I like to expose the highlights as high as I can (again depending on the situation).

I have follow the recommendation from gamut.io. You can rise the shadow a lot(they are very clean), but never bring back clipped highlights

Are you in the US? My S5 is on order and I had to do the same thing. What was annoying was that on the registration page they made it clear that supplies were limited, first come first served and that there was no guarantee that you would ever actually get the lens. They also said on the page that even if they did ship the lens to you it would not be until Nov at the earliest.

Has anyone tried the Sigma L mount to EF mount adapter yet? I've been reading that the AF gets even worse with the adapter. I don't care about AF for video but planned on using it for images.

Sigma MC-21 works good with newer Canon USM lenses for stills(35 1.4, 16-35 III 85 1.2- slow). Not the fastest and no AFC. I have also a Tamron 24-70 G2 that is slower in focus, but the stabilization with S1 is gorgeus..

yep, that was the issue SMH   Now to figure out the best way to lighten the image from this point without crushing my highlights, lol.  Anyone else use a Leeming LUT workflow and could give some advice on bringing the dark starting point to something showable?  I don't want to introduce my own personal grade on it, just a common starting point that will show the dynamic range.

THANKS for the input so far, I really appreciate it 😉

Normaly i work from blacklevel upwards, that i lower just before legal clipping point.

Than lower whites and raise shadows, always in the range of 16-235 in the RGB parade.

Finally add contrast and exposure of your taste and ad saturation if nedded.

  14. 4 minutes ago, Hangs4Fun said:

Let me check, when I did it, I noticed that all of the "basic correction" exposure values didn't change, so I just assumed it didn't do anything. Other than that or the export (it's not YT or Vimeo, because I checked and the exported files also have the zeroed black areas), there wasn't much else to do, I had my zebra's set to the 94+ that Paul recommended for the A7SIII.  That being said, I sent him the colorchecker results and this, and he said he's getting married today 🙂 and will work on a new set just for the A7SIII when he is back from his honeymoon.  Until then, any suggestions to try in the image capture if it's not the "AUTO" option?  If I remember correctly, only 1 of the clips, showed any changes after hitting AUTO, but to your point that could be it.

Much appreciated, I really want to dial in my production workflow, so I have the confidence to shoot in S-Log3 and know what I can and can't do with it in post after it is too late 😉

Normaly this auto mode in Lumetri crash the blacks and nothing else.

Maybe check the blacklevel setting there.

What put me off from the S1 was the extra fee for the vlog update.  I use to defend it back when they did it for the GH4 and GH5 as I felt it right to pay for an extra function reserved more for video professionals.  Then they included it for free on one of their lower level cameras and it didn't sit right with me after that.

In hindsight, I feel that at the time they released the S1 that they should have advised customers of the S1H upcoming release; I know some were caught out by this and invested in the S1 and then learnt a camera more suited for video was due afterwards, even if more costly.

Now a year later, they offer an improved S1 in the S5.  Feels like those early adopters for Panasonic fullframe didn't get the best deal.

Not a concern to me as I didn't jump in.  But I might feel differently if I had.
