  1. I think most here don't like the a7s for anything other than it's sharpness. Every other group that I know of loves it.
  2. Right, I'm sure it's far more complicated than just mpx, but all else being equal to the 1dc mkI, that sensor would be the perfect size
  3. Nice work Dave. Whats interesting is Canon already has designed the perfect 1DC mkii sensor, the 12mp full frame from the orginal 5D. I'd love that in a 1DCII, full frame 4k with everything else you mentioned.
  4. How's the 4K compared to 1DC? I'm sure the Prores codec is much nicer to grade.
  5. really well done and probably as good of skin tones as I've seen on sony. It's just a very different look, not even something that I can put my finger on. When I watch a wedding shot on Canon I feel like I'm watching wedding, on Sony, a wedding video.
  6. This was just a glidecam 4000hd. The touch screen on a glidecam is very freeing. You can tap lightly and not throw off the balance.
  7. We've been using the 1DXII for weddings for the past month. Skin tones on a bride are always important, and I think they are great with this body. I don't have any full films completed but here is one of our teasers : Matt // www.thefilmpoets.com
  8. it's easier for me because it's very clear what is and isn't in focus! From what I understand, once you go larger than FF format, physics starts to work against you with aperture of most lenses.
  9. FF can look like APS-C if stopped down. Crop sensors can look like full frame if the DOF+FOV equivalent is possible. Its all about the DOF at a given effective focal length. FF starts to become impossible to emulate with combinations like a 24mm at f/2 or 35mm at f/2 or 2.8 on FF. Those are magic.
  10. there is a youtube review somewhere that shows the 1080p vs the mkiii. the mk IV is a good deal sharper than the mkiii. Not Sony sharp by any means, but noticeable. I'm curious how it compares to the 1DXII 1080p FF. found it, about 4:50 on this video - Its a bit sharper.
  11. Cool trick. The manual for the 1dxII states that it will in-camera format to exfat if using a 256gb cf card or any cfast card.
  12. Why dont you "punch in" as you're shooting and switch to a 100mm macro lens. Not being a smart ass, but you could save some change and get a 1DC and shoot the 60FPS 1080p, or the standard 4k. honestly 4K up close on a female face is going to show a ton of detail in an unflattering way. A cinematographer would be softening the image with mist filters.
  13. Canon anyone comment on if the 1DXII can record 4k 24p to the same 1000x CF cards that the 1DC can for sustained amounts of time.
  14. the vII is the only lens that I own that O can see softness in canon 1080p video mode. the corners at 2.8 around 20mm suck really bad.
  15. I've been itching for this cam as well! Slight image trade offs from the 1DC for huge usability gains like autofocus and sharp slo mo. One thing that I have yet to hear mentioned on here is how beautiful the underexposure of the 1dc or 1dx mjpeg can be. It just has a nice shadow rolloff. I shot at the Georgia aquarium in 4k last week on a family trip and noticed how clean the images came out. very cinematic feeling, never got this with the 6d or 5d without overexposing and then trying to bring it back down. If the manfrotto Sympla thumb controller can move the auto focus box around that'd be a great setup for single user gimbal work.
  16. somehow Bloom has been able to make canon colors look like sony. Otherwise beautiful work and a lovely camera.
  17. man, what stands out to me is to look at his newer red dragon work compared to his 4k 1dc. Though technically not as good, I like the magic of the 1dc image better. =) Lots of folks break the shutter speed rule, especially in the live event world.
  18. the PP are implemented after the raw encoding right? That would mean no matter what, the dynamic range of a PP is going clipped before true clog
  19. interesting, I wonder how the HDR in video works.
  20. Is the s35 on the 1dc a 4K oversampling like the c100 is? The c100/300 seems to have that "oversampled" look to it, which I like, but I'm not sure my 1DC in s35 has quite that amount detail. Can anyone point to a good comparison of the s35 of the 1DC vs the c100.
  21. I'm in Birmingham, AL Dave. PM me sometime if you're in the area or need another 1dc!
  22. The glare is the only downside to the 501. For me, the hood doesn't really help. I did buy an iPhone 6 Plus matte screen protector that can be cut to fit. It makes the 501 much more usable outdoors.
