  1. Every Canon EF lens I have works with the adapter. What doesn't work is the peripheral illumination correction because they haven't created the profiles yet. But peripheral illumination on the c70 is problematic because of some low shadow color noise issues so it's best to keep it turned off until they work things out. Anyway, Canon adapter works perfectly for DPAF and lens communication with the c70, Metabones does not.
  2. Marvels Cine profile is the closest equivalent.
  3. For all the love the 1dc got in this, I’m surprised the c70 isn’t mentioned. It feels more like a 1DC upgrade given its been nearly 10 years than the incremental updates of the 1dx III. C70 is the only DSLR body style that feels like they want you to use it for video. Permanently strap that .71x adapter on there and you’ve got a full frame look with decent DPAF, useable digital IS, flip screen, unlimited recording, ridiculous dynamic range with clean shadows and better colors than the 1dx III. I like the 10bit HEVC modes for space savings.
  4. HDR mode on the Air 2 is a beast. Add a little noise reduction and it's super clean.
  5. can confirm 1.1.1 works with date change and battery pull method to reset timer.
  6. We need to know if firmware can be downgraded in this thing. Someone needs to be saving these firmware updates in case we can.
  7. Here's the thing to remember : A large companies marketing department is totally separate from the engineering guys. that's how this type of stuff happens.
  8. I'm convinced that Canon shooters judge skin tones at the gut level and Sony shooters judge it with their eyes. This won't make sense to a lot people.
  9. Oh I forgot about that. you're right that was a huge pain the only way around it was going to 4k 60p with a 1.3x crop, which also sucked when you're all framed up for a FF shot.
  10. Been using the 1dxII in 4k for weddings over the past 3 years. It's an amazing camera, and no bride will ever ask for more. The file sizes can suck though. I ended up with a workflow of converting the MJPEG files over to 4k h265 files, reducing the weddings by 85%, and they looked 95% as good. It's a workaround for the biggest downside of that camera.
  11. Well the 1dx III is FF and has IPB 4k 60p and its oversampled. No overheating.
  12. I can feel the binning going on here. I'd be curious how it compares to the 1:1 readout of the 1dx II. Thats the baseline. If 8k binned is the same as 1:1 4k, cool. Right here, I'm not so sure. Oversampled mode is insane.
  13. The thing is you can shoot pixel binned 4k and it will never shut down. That'll probably like like 1:1 4k in terms of sharpness, I assume. Sprinkle some 60p here and there and a few 8k estabs and you're good to go. The real question for the r5 is how long of 60p 4k recording do you get after rolling for 45 minutes at pixel binned 4k.
  14. I read that as well. That means that either that guy is wrong, or Canon have the stupidest marketing department in the world.
  15. The 1dxIII oversamples nicely. They have the tech to do it in the R5. 4K would be 2x oversampled if they did it. Crazy sharp 4K
  16. its an iMac pro, not a Mac Pro - but It depends on the format. 10bit IPB at 24fps is fine. 10bit IPB at 60fps stutters. 10bit All-I at 24fps stutters a lot, I can't edit it without transcoding, and this is with the footage on a fast SSD drive and in FCPX. I can say that Canon's video software, whatever it's called, played those files back better than FCPX. I have no idea how. So maybe its an optimization problem with fcpx.
  17. got the 1dx III - Shot a few projects with it. It's very nice. Highlight rolloff is my favorite part. 10bit ipb 60fps won't playback on a 10 core iMac pro. same for all-i 24fps. that part sucks. Here's a trailer from the wedding with the 1dx III. I got to play with pushing exposure to more of a light and bright look, which matched the planners style - this was clog and IPB recording.
  18. Used the 1dxIII on two full shoots now. Really beautiful image, Clog is lovely in 10bit and the Neutral color matrix, was never a fan of it on the 1DC. Full frame, over sampled 4K with Canon color is a magic combination. Though I’d gladly take a kick in the pants to have DPAF in FF 60p.
  19. It's possible that straight off the sensor 8k recording is less heat-generating than 2X oversampled 4k recording. My iMac Pro can spit out a 4k Prores file from 4k footage quicker and with less heat than it can a1080p h264 file from the same footage. No?
