Here is a hopefully more consistent set. All with f8 and 1/30 on tripod. In contrast to the previous sets, I didn't rely on focus peaking at all but on magnification.
All .jpgs and raws here, and there's also a set with IBIS on (which doesn't seem to make a difference):

    A7 above, A7iv is below
    Minolta MD 50:

    Olympus 50mm:

    Sony FE 50mm

The manual lenses look here far better than on the previous pictures.

I have to say that the two images are so completely different in terms of composition and light thats its difficult to make any comparison between them.
In lieu of not having a focus calibration tool, the keyboard on the desk if placed next to the coffee machine could act as an OK substitute if you place it like this crude representation.

This way there will be evenly spaced and legible markers in front of and behind the focus point to compare between images.
By the way, I do note from the EXIF of the A7iv file though that it appears to think the stabilisation is on ?

I missed this when it was announced a few months ago but Meike have released an EF>M adapter that has a drop in filter slot.

It ships as a package with both the Variable ND and clear filters but also has a polariser available too and of course supports all AF and IS functionality
€165, I'd say its very reasonably priced for what it will add to EOS-M rigs but of course thats all relative when it costs more than the insanely cheap prices the actual camera itself goes for these days !
I know for many people using EF lenses goes against the grain of using such a small camera but the flip side of that is that with this adapter and a compact EF-S all in one zoom like the Tamron 18-200mm or Sigma 18-250mm (both under €200 used), the EOS-M can become a stabilised, RAW shooting, pick it up and go camcorder for under €500.

Good to know. I know of one photographer who claims that the best Sony camera for vintage glass is the first-generation A7s, the one before they added image stabilization. I have the A7iii and have been happy with it (never use it for video, though); I am intrigued enough about the original A7s that I might get one to see. The photographer I'm referring to says that about half the shots in this album were with the A7s; the other with Leica M9, all using vintage glass: http://www.outlierimagery.com/street
And most of the shots in this album were with the original A7s with vintage glass: http://www.outlierimagery.com/bts

I gave it a try the other day.
It works, very good sensor in it. There's also the Xiaomi Mi 10 which will give you 6K/24p RAW due to faster processor so maybe worth paying $300 for one of those on eBay instead.
Redmi Note 11 is a bit more responsive than the Note 10 and same price. That's got a much smaller sensor though, but it seems to work well.
Be careful of some of the budget handsets like Oppo Reno6 5G Stellar. It's got a lovely camera and 4.6K RAW but I couldn't get more than 16fps out of it in the app.
Be aware that all the Xiaomi devices have slow USB C ports (2.0 speed crippled shit) so off loading the RAW will be slower than wifi and you can't use external SSDs for recording, so watch the internal memory size... 64GB not going to cut it.

Would be interested to see if this Android device works. It has a MFT sensor and you can change lenses! That would be the Yognuno YN455. Also the Sharp Aquos R6 with its truely 1 inch sized sensor. Latter costing 750USD on ebay US but has not been officially released outside of Japan afaik.
I think closest to the Digital bolex would be a OG BMPCC or BMMCC.:) Video below was shot with the One Plus 7T Pro. It´s a low dynamic range scene but the subtle tones and "organic" textures and resolution look impressive. I had posted this one before in this thread.

After a little more into the menu, one correction and more observations:
    - You can actually lock exposure properly, other than stated above. This one is set in the video tab of the menu (not in the general function buttons setting) - in the video tab you'll find a separate menu with the option to assign a few functions to some buttons.
    - In stills mode, there a several options for auto exposure: matrix (whole area),  center weighted, spot and highlight weighted. In video mode, however, you are limited to: matrix, center weighted and highlight weighted, means, that there is no way to measure an specific area other than than the center.
    - You can attach an usb-cable to the camera and to the computer, and it is possible to drag files from the camera with it. The camera is not a proper USB drive on Nikon cameras, which means you can't put files on the camera card directly. This means, you'll definitely need an (cfexpress) card reader (which costs around another 60€) in order to update the camera with a new firmware.
    - You can charge the battery while it's inside the camera with the help of the usb-cable. But you'll need a really powerful usb charger for that (5V, 15W). My Ipad charger didnt work, for instance.

    Bit of background....
I've been doing stuff on and off for a while with the FZ2000 in pursuit of it being the modern equivalent of my Dad's old cine camera.
Something to take on holiday as an integrated system without any other accessories.
Also something that I could shoot in with a single profile and then create a single "development" step for it so it would be the equivalent of my Dad sending his exposed Kodachrome cartridge off and getting the finished product back from Kodak, with the goal of that single consistent look without noodling about in post.
The FZ2000 has an awful lot going for in that respect as it has internal ND, decent codecs, v-Log and of course the stabilised 24-480mm lens, hence it being in here.
Had an opportunity to give it a go in the tourist cine camera role this weekend at the F1 Classic Grand Prix in Monaco and here are some frame exports from the footage, shot in v-Log using the 200mbps all-i HD codec.

These days, of course, I'm on the punter side of the fence rather than the press side of it so its a lot more restrictive in terms of shooting but that is where the massive range of the lens on the FZ2000 comes into play in enabling you to get a lot of shot sizes quickly and maximising the coverage you can get.
When shooting in HD, the very clean digital zoom extension gets you out to around 1000mm equivalent and the image stabilisation makes hand holding at that range realistic. Shot in 180 degree shutter as its more about the event itself (and is purely for motion rather than for stills extraction) than the cars so the motion blur on the cars is not a defect 😉
The lens itself is very sharp so I've got a 1 strength Glimmerglass filter on it permanently to take some of the edge off.

This camera far exceeds my video and photographic needs right now and looks like a great addition to M43. I'm curious to see what real-world footage looks like. Is it really that much better than what we currently have (which I think is great)? I'm just happy to have another great option for all the small M43 lenses out there. I'll probably get this camera, but wait for a heavy promo.

Here for some first impressions (I did not posses the A7iiI, some things might be familiar to you that are new to me). I can’t say anything substantial about the IQ just yet. But I’d like to share what I think about the overall handling in comparison.
First of all, the package does not look like a Japanese gift at all, more like for a north korean showel. Strange for a product of this price. Maybe it is due to environmental considerations, but there was no label or explanation of sort.
Weight and size: All seems more balanced, smaller and lighter than the nikon z6, although that might not be the case. The body gives a kind of hollow impression, which is not unpleasant. The feel of the buttons and dials: Cheapo. All feels like plastic parts from an 3D printer were stitched together afterwards without fitting to 100%. All dials and buttons give you a sort of resistance like they don’t want to be used. No comparison to the refined feel of superior material of an Z6 or the NX1.
EVF is okay, but you always have to hit the center with your eye, otherwise it gets unsharp very quickly to the sides (like on the gx80). I tend to press my eye bone to the frame of the evf all the time, in order to get it right, and that starts to hurt after some time. LCD screen ist okay, but certainly not as brilliant as the one from the NX1 and it’s smaller than the Z6’s. It has a huge bezel, so why in the world is it not possible to make the screen a bit bigger as 3’’ ?. A digital camera is an optical tool in the end, and this one competes with smartphones to a certain extend, which offer a brilliant bright screen twice as big as the Sony A7IV’s one. It think, it is all a bit outdated, and it is a prospect of things to come. Maybe, it was not the best idea to design digital DSLRs on the basis of its analogue predecessors from the 60ties at all, which sported no LCD obviously. Maybe future cameras will have to look different.
Menu is good, I had no problems with the one from A7 mark I though, but it is definitely a revelation compared to the classic NEX menus.
Focus peaking implementation is great, you can switch it on and off easily and when it’s on, it doesn’t intrude too much in the picture (like it does on the z6).
Button and dial assignment is straightforward as well, it’s a quick and easy affair.
A great feature is that you can use the lcd screen as a touchpad for focusing while looking through the EVF. It works not as snappy as on the gx80, but it is definitely usable.
In terms of heat, I can’t say anything, ( I shot 1 short piece outside without any problems) yet, but I noticed that the camera gets noticeably hot while charging the battery.

I finally sold almost all my gear and pulled the trigger on the A7IV which is probably the most unreasonable option. Main reason, I guess, is the enjoyment I had with the first A7, which was just fun to hold and operate. Other than that, on the plus side, you have a flip out screen and 10bit. On the other side, you'll get a resolution bump that nobody needs – if, you would get an A7rIII for 600 $ less – at the the expense of comparably lackluster low light performance (deplorable) and rs.
So, time to get convinced by practice.

I put a pre-order in for the 7IV to pair with my Siii. I own a couple other Sony's and have a lot invested in the glass. I also have a set of FD's that I can throw on for manual lens. Like another user said, the AF is incredible on these. I am a one man band and it helps in so many ways.
I like the S5 IQ but the modern Sony cameras are damn close.
Few rolling shutter sucks, NR built in blows and no waveforms is a bummer. Oh and no 1/48th...
I love the Sony cameras but I would 100% skip the A7iii if money is the issue. Save for the IV or pick up the S5.

I don't think that'll be an issue. I've read (likely on the phillipreeve site) that the Minolta Rokkors perform well even on the A7riii and A7riv, both of which have higher-resolution sensors than the A7iv.
I use my A7iii for stills only, no video, and would likely do the same if I get an A7iv, but the A7iv is attractive to me for the weather resistance plus the better sensor protection (dust on the sensor is my main complaint with the A7iii; I have to wet-clean it every month and blow it out with a rocket blower with every lens change, but even so I spend a lot of time in post eliminating dust spots. It's frustrating. The A7iv has a feature where you can close the shutter when changing lenses.

Actually, I find the rolloff on the S1 / S5 quite pleasing. I don't have an a7 III (only aps-c sony cameras) but I feel 10-bit V-LOG in the S1 / S5 cameras is much better than in the Sony aps-c cameras I own.
No one can predict the longevity of the a7 IV, but I would say that sony usually splits their price point in to one of three branches: basic cameras (the a7 III), high MP cameras (a7R III and a7R IV, for example) and fast readout cameras (a1, a9). Then there is the a7 S series of cameras.
So... I think if you want less rolling shutter, you are going to have to pay for one of the more expensive fast sensor cameras. Unless, there is some breakthrough to speed up the readout of the more affordable sensors.

To me between the S5 and the A7III I would take the S5 any day of the week, especially for video. The image quality is so much better in my opinion. The A7IV could be a bit tempting but apart from the AF which I personally almost never use, I can't think of anything that would make me want it especially in the projected price. Not to mention the aggressive noise reduction that can't be turned off even on the more expensive A7SIII. Thanks but no thanks! 😁

    Yes.
And if one is willing to use the gyroscopic stabilization method, it is supposed to be great. But there seems to be a few compromises (using faster shutter speeds and you can't batch process clips unless you upgrade to the paid version of Sony Catalyst).

I fear, the AIV with '131 x 96 x 80 mm, 659 g'  is no less bulky than the S5 (133 x 98 x 82 mm, 714 g). I loved the look of my Minolta lenses on the A7 m I, and I really hope, the A7IV would perform the same way, despite the higher resolution sensor.  Ibis is certainly big plus for the S5, although the cropped in electronic IS on the Sony seems to narrow that a bit.

    Hey,
what is your opinion of the A7IV? What do you think of it, in comparison to the S5, for instance, as a hybrid shooter with 10bit opportunities? The A7IV is 1600 € more than the S5 here + the prices for some L-Mount have come down.
I saved all my dimes to jump on the 'next' A7 and skipping the A7iii, but now, I find it quite hefty priced compared to its peers.
My main reasons to long for the next A7 were:
    - good low light performance
    - video specs that allow for post correction of white balance mismatches and decent highlight and shadow recovery
    - up to the task for five years or more
I think, the A7iii might cover most of it as well, which is around 1200 € in mint condition.
    What do you think?
Does anybody already own the A7IV?

I actually would not mind using an original A7 to shoot greyhounds racing!
I USED to shoot greyhounds with a Pentax DSLR with several photos published in a national (Australian) greyhound racing paper (at the time one of the largest circulation greyhound racing papers in the world).     Even the first A7 had better AF than the old Pentax DSLRs I used.
I never did use the A7 for that though but it would be ok for me.
Yes of course there are better cameras for that (lots of them).
In good light, the first A7 takes quite nice photos with still competitive DR (still better than many even current FF cameras at ISO 100 and still better than almost every smaller sensor camera.
If someone just wants a FF camera to take good light photos in good weather it is still a nice choice.     Once you start adding OTHER requirements, not so muchnow.
