lucabutera reacted to LawDude in Petition for Samsung NX1 hack
Here's scenes from a feature I'm shooting on the NX1. All using the tracking autofocus. I hope this camera lasts a LONG time, because even after all these years, its footage and capabilities are gorgeous and unmatched.

lucabutera reacted to SMGJohn in Max bitrates and does the NX1 hack actually reduce macro blocking?
I been humouring the idea whether we should start a fundraiser/kickstarter to get enough money to hire really good developers who could develop a new firmware for this camera.

I think it is a processor data processing problem.
It's a pity not to have a working team like magic lantern on Samsung NX! ...

These days I wanted to test the maximum bitrates with hack NX/KS.
I've found that to get the maximum bitrates you need to turn off all the functions that require memory and cpu:
So if I turn off bluetooth, all the automatic functions, and close the display by going on EVF can go up to 220Mbit/s without interruption and up to 240Mbit/s for about a minute.
The benefit that is obtained is that the macroblochin is reduced in size, transforming itself from small squares into a noise-like grain.
What I think is that if the hack could turn off the display and the EVF being recorded, the NX1 could go over 250Mbit/s without any recording time limit.

lucabutera reacted to Juxx989 in NX-1 vs Red 6k?
Our South Korean Friend is back....he has a very glossy High Key magazine style...
I cant understand completely as the translate option cant be trusted it seems the intro shots are NX-1 footage then the rest is Red? or is he comparing NX-1 + ReD shot for shot...
Cant comprehend the text in video. Check it

I've had the NX1 for about 6 mos or so. The images it produces has become one of my favorite.
Mostly shot on Nikkors Ais and Rokinons.
Gamma: Normal, -3 Contrast, -2 Sat, -10 Sharpness,
16-235 for some and 0-255 for others.

lucabutera reacted to NX1user in Samsung Camera Manager new Update!!! The very first good news
I tried the updated app on my iphone 6. It works fine for viewing or downloading photos. As a remote control for the camera though, it's useless. You can see what the camera is seeing and touch focus. That's it, nothing else works. There's no onscreen button for taking a photo!

I don't know if it means something or not but there is a new update released on the 3rd of July.
it says, compatibility with IOS 10 and bug fixes. Did anyone tried it yet?
Would this mean will see a new update in the studio software aswell?

I hope so. It really pisses me off that my phone, Samsung's Galaxy S8, doesn't work with their own company's camera line, defunct though it may be.

lucabutera got a reaction from Francesco Tasselli in Max bitrates and does the NX1 hack actually reduce macro blocking?
Hi Andrew Reid@, I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro 280MB/s, I shoot 180Mbit/s with audio and 200Mbit/s without audio in 4k 24fps - FHD 50fps - FHD 100fps.
In my experience the best setting for kill the macro blocking is 4k DC 24fps, DR profile, Pro mode, 16-235, master black -10.
I use the NX/KS hack and third part lenses.
Best

I am very honored by Andrew's review.
Some fast Aps-c lenses could work on NX-L without vignetting.
I think the Sigma 30mm 1.4 Art lens could work fine, getting a nearly 35mm 1.4! But I did not test it.

That shot is 3:2 or 4:3...
In video mode 16:9 those dark corners will be gone, no?

lucabutera reacted to Francesco Tasselli in Should I buy a Samsung NX1 now May 2017???
..Kinshasa I agree with you completely. I have both, Samsung NX1 and Sony A7s II, and no doubts.. I love, really love the NX1. It is able to make me want to shot video every day. In few words: under the 1600 iso is now, in 2017, still unbeatable!

lucabutera reacted to IKSLIM in Mobile Light and WB for NX1 - my best experience
Hello NX1 fan-club. Couple of months ago i published a video i shot completely at 120p 170MBs:
https://youtu.be/UyRyZzM5do8
Some of you mentioned nice and clean picture and asked me about a Light i’ve used during the interview. I’ve used Aputure 582 mark2 (CRI-95) model, and UHD-30p 170MBs mode.
Now i decided to share with you guys, my experience with NX1 LIGHT-wise.
Aputure 582 mark2 (CRI-95) is a great module, compact and really powerful, but it can produce weird skin-tones paired with NX1. That’s why i purchased fluorescent light set with “OSRAM 950 ColorProof” tubes. OSRAM 950 ColorProof paired with NX1 produce much better skin-tones. There is my completed video-interview-style project, shot on NX1 paired with OSRAM tubes:
https://youtu.be/uTI8i-FOuuM
As far as understand NX1 WhiteBalance algorithm, custom set and presets are just a general orientation for the camera. NX1 continue to fine tune WB during video-capture, even with custom WB set. From my experience, it is better to set one of the available WB-Presets, but Kelvin-WB and Custom-WB are the least used (because most inadequate). Now i think, NX1 sensor is really sensitive to the Light-spectrum. Any imperfections of the Light-Spectrum could potentially drive NX1 WB adjustments in a weird territory making skin-tones unpleasant.
Otherwise i have a set of three very inexpensive LED panels (big flat and cheep) from a Lerough-Merlen-Superstore (60x60 very flat, very soft light capable and easy to install light wight panels). Paired with NX1 works really good, unless i have to shot people. If i have to interview, OSRAM fluorescent light is definitely the way to go, caused by skin-tones reproduction.
Hope that could helps you guys Light-wise and WB set with NX1.

lucabutera got a reaction from Marco Tecno in NX-1 vs 5D4 vs GH5 Test series
Samsung has created a camera too futuristic to be replaced soon.
The great definition, detail, ergonomics make NX1 an irreplaceable camera.
I hope that the Samsung resume soon to build camera, or that some manufacturers put on the market a new camera taking inspiration from NX1 camera, acquiring its technology and perhaps implementing it with a full frame sensor.

it was made official no cameras from Samsung...
http://english.etnews.com/20170406200003
Now only if we could get that source code or whatever kino and them need... ML Can squeeze 4k Raw out of a 5D MK3 I know raw video could be possible on NX-1
Im sure this is over simplifying but it seems you would have to just tell the camera to record 24 8mp raw files a second... It can do 15 a sec with 28mp raw... this seems plausible
I really wish I knew reverse engineering... or forward engineering even!
