Kisaha got a reaction from Rhood in When will we see cheap 600W/1200W led lights?
I just received today the CL60R. So far I was impressed by the build quality, the output, the very friendly buttons placement (and existance!), the app, the size, the weight, the price, the original design and also the silly box/case that came with.
Seems like a company that's serious about their stuff. I also read that they have an EU office and check "locally" warranty claims..
Unfortunately it didn't work with a power bank I have. It turns on, but switches after half a second with a 65w. Maybe it needs an 80w..
First impressions positive. Still have to pass the test of time.
I got it as a hair light and for the effects, in case I need them, so I wanted it extra portable.

Better sound. It was a no-budget movie and while we had good equipment, we didn't have people who knew what they were doing. I don't fault them for messed up sound since they are just friends we handed the gear off to. I've been paid to do sound on other people's projects so I know what I'm doing there, but I was focused on directing and shooting. The best sound was from the times where I just put the mic on a stand and monitored the audio myself. I should have just done that the entire time.
Script-wise there were things I wish I had kept in the script, but what's int he final film isn't bad. The original ending was more climactic and scary I think. There are a lot of little things that annoy me, like some of the sign replacement VFX shots, but they were done for free, so I can't complain too much, and it's better than what I could have done myself.

Yes it has those options on the mode dial.

Actually, I think the R7 is better for hybrid shooting at least for events. The R7 impresses me more and more as I work with it. The R7 has no record limits, hybrid hotshoe, uses identical memory card types in both slots, hasn't once overheated on me using the original FW even in 100F degree heat, battery life is way better, and the button layout has really grown on me during fast moving hybrid shoots at events.
Due to the R7 I have changed my whole shooting style at events. I have the R7 in a cage with a side handle for hand-held shots for both photo and video along with a hotshoe flash on top and can flick from photos to video and back without ever lowering the camera. I also added a strap mount to the cage which is another first for me for a video camera.
So, 3 months in below are some of my findings with the R7 so far. This is from my perspective when shooting with it for both photos and videos at events:
Best Hybrid Lens: Canon EF 24-70 F2.8 L. This was a surprising one for me, I tested out the Sigma EF-S 18-35 F1.8 which many people rave about but it did not seem sharp to me, especially at F1.8. Also, the lens AF motors were some of the loudest I have ever heard; definitely not acceptable with a camera mounted shotgun mic. It also was wider than I needed it at the wide end and not long enough at the long end. When I tested the Canon EF 24-70 F2.8L the R7 was suddenly razor sharp, focusing noise was greatly reduced and the FF sensor focal length of approximately 38-112mm was perfect for both pictures and video. This lens also works very well with the R7 on the Ronin RS2; it balances perfectly. A final plus for the Canon 24-70 F2.8 is the lock switch which locks the barrel so I would engage that whenever it was on a gimbal to keep the balance. Ergonomics - This is the first camera I have ever owned that I feel equally comfortable shooting both photos and video. When shooting a fast-moving event, the ergonomics of this camera really start to shine as a hybrid. I can flip the power switch from off/on/video then adjust the aperture using the ring around the joystick all within seconds and without moving my hand from the grip. For events I literally just hand hold and use the back screen for images then flip to video get a few clips without lowering the camera then back to photos. A hotshoe mounted flash gets me down to ISO 100 for photos and video starts at ISO800 so once it is all set up I can shoot the optimal ISO for both formats without touching the settings.  Photo / Video Separation - None of the photo and video settings are linked which is another pro and a slight con. It would be nice to be able to pick what to link like the S5 let me do. I would like to link the WB, and Aperture because they are typically the same between photos and video.  AF Separation - This is a subtle nuance that is also pretty nice with the R7, the AF settings in photo mode also do not affect the video mode. So for example you can set continuous AF with person tracking and eye detect in photo mode and continuous AF with tracking and eye detect off for video mode. You can also create a box on the screen and limit the AF features to just that box if you have time to set all of that up. Flash Sync Speed - I am totally confused on this one. The documented maximum flash sync speed is 1/250s but I went as high as 1/500s at times and my flash output did not drop nor was my flash in HSS mode so I have no idea what that's about. It was a very pleasant surprise though. Most cameras stop at their flash sync speed and won't let you go any higher until you set the flash to HSS at which point your output drops quite a bit or you have problems in your image due to exceeding the sync speed, but neither occurred when I exceeded the flash sync speed. The Bad - unfortunately the R7 is not perfect, I have found a few more annoyances after shooting with it for awhile
Flash Hotshoe Doesn't Fire - This is my main annoyance, the hotshoe has approximately a 5% failure rate when triggering the flash. Same flash I have had for years, never once had it not fire when attached directly to the camera, but with the R7 it fails to trigger sometimes. At first I thought it was just coming loose, but no matter how much I tightened it, it would still fail occasionally. For events that's a major annoyance when you are trying to capture peak action and relying on the flash for fill. Recording Doesn't Stop - Sometimes the recording would not stop after pressing the recording button. Holding the button doesn't help, pressing it repeatedly doesn't help, it will just not stop recording without additional fiddling. Sometimes I had to press the stop button on the screen itself to get it to stop. It never took more than a few seconds of fiddling to get it to stop, but annoying none the less. Horizon Leveling - This one is very minor, but I did discover that this has to be turned off when on a gimbal. The horizon leveling makes the image slowly rock from side to side on a gimbal. It took about an hour of fiddling to find that one. I thought sure it was my gimbal, but then I turned off the horizon leveling feature and the image was rock solid. I am not sure yet how useful this is when handholding since I don't have time to turn it off and on at events so I just leave it off. R7 or R6II? I know @Django asked me if both were available today which one would I pick? I think without having ever shot with the R7 then the R6II would be no contest. But now after shooting with the R7 I think the main technical drawback the R7 really has is line skipped 60FPS. The R6II has some really nice to have features (most could be added via a FW update to the R7 if Canon felt generous), but for event hybrid work the R7 is great. For events the line skipped quality is probably more than adequate, but for higher end work like commercial work or possibly mid budget weddings, it may not hold up.
The Verdict - The R7 has actually exceeded my expectations for a hybrid camera. Even the fact it is a crop sensor is actually helpful because it breathed new life into my Canon EF 24-70 lens with the change in focal lengths.  The IBIS is great, AF of course is perfect even though I still only use the cross hairs for AF, none of the fancy tracking features, but the part that I do use is rock solid reliable. I was looking at speedbooster options (and may still need one for lowlight situations), but so far the R7 is a perfect fit even with the crop sensor.
I need to practice with the more advanced AF options more to see if I can incorporate them into fast moving run and gun situations. I don't trust tracking or eye AF for video, but for photos it seems pretty solid.
Below is a recent event highlight video I shot with the R7. Approximately 90% was handheld, the entire event (photos and video), I shot with just the Canon EF 24-70 F2.8 lens.  I also used the 4K30FPS Fine option with compressed IPB and CLOG3 Cinema Gamut combined with Davinci Resolve Managed Color and a slight creative grade to finish it off. The colors straight out of camera were great to work with.
This shoot was particularly challenging because the event was half under massive really dark unlit tents and half in shade with midday sunlight all around so my focus was on properly exposing the subject matter with no regard to the background exposure. As a refence point, another videographer was there with a C300III running the live feed and he was also unable to keep the DR within the C300III's sensor so it was no fault of the camera that it couldn't handle the full DR of many of the scenes.

Below are a few sample images from the event. These were shot with a hotshoe mounted flash handheld and the same Canon EF 24-70 F2.8 lens. All images were shot raw and post processed in LR. Colors are straight out of camera, nothing was added to the colors.

No, I'm referring to NVIDIA/AMD. I just did a test for you. I have a Lenovo Legion 5i Pro laptop with an i7-12700h CPU and a 3070Ti GPU. I loaded a 2160p 4:2:2 HEVC F-Log clip to Resolve, added a LUT and some tweaking.
With hybrid mode enabled (that is Resolve can use both internal GPU and the dedicated one), I get smooth 25fps playback with low CPU usage and rendered out the clip with the H.265 Master preset in 18 seconds.
Now if I switch to dedicated GPU only mode, I get 21-23 fps playback and high CPU usage and the clip rendered out in 41 seconds.
So basically with 10th or higher gen Intel CPU I get 4:2:2 support in addition to what the GPU already offers, no need for a Mac (for this).

I finally finished and released this film yesterday. 5 years late is better than never, right? I was dissatisfied with it for a while, and there's a lot I would still change, but I've come to appreciate it. Now. So here it is, at last:
The film has been given a makeover with FilmConvert Nitrate. I'm pretty shocked at how good this a6300 short looks and how much I could recover from overexposed shots. There are only a couple of shots with sorta mushy compression.

well just like the original R6, it has better FF 4K60p IQ as it oversamples with no line skipping unlike R5 FF 4K60p.
as already mentioned, R6ii has new stuff like the smart hotshoe for Tascam xlr audio, a very handy stills/video switch (R5 requires mode button steps), the latest AF system with deep learning and C70's detect only, false colour, aspect ratio markers & pre-record buffer. a 10x FHD zoom. Focus breathing compensation. A new OVF simulation for the EVF. And as you already know no 30mn time limit and no overheating at up to 4K30p.
its basically a better all-rounder and substantially cheaper when buying new, especially here in EU.
if you don't need 8K RAW, 4K120p or 45MP it makes much better sense.

A step down from your 5DIV how? the only thing I can think of is the megapixel count (30 vs 20).
DXO ranks the R6 above the 5DIV in terms of DR and ISO noise performance. R6 does use the flagship 1DX3 sensor..
As for the R5 overheating, it has been substantially mitigated with v1.6 :
    https://downloads.canon.com/EOSR5_recordtime_7-21.pdf
With the high setting its basically a non-issue. So again a bit of a waste not to benefit from it for FF video. I also have battery grip, shoulder strap etc on my hybrids, that doesn't prevent me from shooting some quick handheld video bits during events thanks to IBIS. 4K120p would be even better handheld.
But ok you have it dedicated to photo duties and a C70 + R7 for video. That's a nice setup.

According to my bank account Canon is winning (C70, R5, R7, lenses), so yes I am very critical of Canon because there's so many very simple things they could do in FW to make big wins in the customer satisfaction department, but at the end of the day for me nothing still checks as many boxes as Canon so regardless of their shortcomings they won regardless.
Their massive lens ecosystem is what holds many users, myself included, completely hostage to their whims and here lately they are producing cameras that are just good enough to make it very difficult to leave once you are in. They fixed the showstoppers for me (no dual slot video recording, no overheating during video recording even here in FL heat, XLR audio input options), and they pair that with competitive dynamic range sensors, industry leading AF, Canon colors, and acceptable IBIS.
Honestly, the only real criticisms I have left is no electronic level in the C70, terrible build quality of the C70, video tools disappear while recording in the R5 and R7, no WFM or shutter angle in the R5 or R7, freezing in the R5 requiring a restart (super annoying BTW), EVF latency in the R5 and R7 (no idea how people are working around this one), and no 4:5 aspect ratio guides in the R5, R7, or C70.
Canon could knock the R6II out of the park with internal Cinema Raw Lite at 30FPS internally since we know they can do it to SD cards (i.e. C70); they probably still will if Sony looks like they are doing too well, but even without it I definitely consider the R6II a pretty serious hybrid camera; far more than the first one as long as overheating really is fixed.

I don't see it that way at all. I purchased R6 on release two years ago and it paid for itself almost immediately so a fantastic investment for me personally.
It also remains the only camera in its category that can shoot 4K60p without a crop. Z6II, A7IV & S1 all have an APS-C crop when shooting 4K60p. And at the time of its release, Sony only had the A7III that couldn't even do 10bit.
So the R6 was for me already way ahead of its competition and hit above its category. It did have one major caveat: overheating. I learned how to work around it but it was still a serious risk factor just like the A7IV currently is. Fixing that was urgent (R6 is their best seller) hence why a MK2 came after only 2 years. I don't think it was fixable in firmware like with R5 due to its hardware build. Again the original R6 is such a good camera that it doesn't really need that many enhancements. Yet Canon added a bunch of low-key refinements.
In the CVP review, the guy opens with "Honestly the R6ii may be my favourite mirrorless camera I've ever used". That's a pretty strong statement and endorsement coming from a reviewer that has access to every single camera under the sun.
Is the camera perfect? No. But none really are in this category. Histogram disappearing when recording yeah bummer. Then again a histogram always on isn't that great on a 2.9" display. Use an external monitor for permanent exposure/assist tools. It is great they added false colour. Yeah WFM would have been better but neither Nikon or Sony offer it even on their flagships. R5C does but all those advanced cine assist functions seem to drain the battery.
In the end, you can always look at the glass either half empty or half full. For me at its price point & category, the R6II is the best all-rounder FF mirrorless on the market. I suspect an R5II will be next with even more refinements.

This is without a doubt my #1 annoyance these days across the Canon line. The R5, R6, R6II, and R7 all remove the histogram and electronic level when recording, I think literally no other camera maker does that at least none I have shot with.
They also finally added aspect ratio guides and one of them is that magical social media 4:5 guide....the R5, R7, and C70 don't even have this.  The S5 had this in 2020.
I do find it strange they added false color but not the WFM, I use the WFM way more than I use false color in the C70. To me false color is best when you have control over the lighting, the WFM is better when you have no control and just need the scene to fit within the DR of the sensor so I would much prefer the WFM over false color. It is still promising though that they are starting to add more video tools to their hybrids. We might even get shutter angle in the R6IV.
Also, is it just me or does it feel like a lot of these features could have been added via FW to the R5, R6, and R7? (False Color, Aspect Ratio Guides, overheating removed). I also think its odd they forced external raw via that terrible micro HDMI slot instead of bringing the C70's Canon Cinema Raw Light @ 30FPS to the R6....maybe overheating concerns, or maybe that's the cripple hammer.
None of this is meant to take away from the R6II, I keep asking myself if I would have gotten the R6II instead of the R7 for a bcam/gimbal cam for the C70 and I don't know yet.  The R6II is a pretty decent upgrade across the board, but I do truly enjoy the R7.  Of course the R7's crop sensor and line skipped 4K60FPS is a pain to deal with and is the two things I think really puts the R6II ahead of the R7.
One thing I noticed in the R6II's review video from DPReview is that terrible IBIS wobble, the R7 does not have that at all (probably because it is a smaller sensor), and I would still trust the R7 in the overheating department vs the R6II at least until there's a lot more data available.

People always want more but sometimes a refinement job is sufficient. We do get a new sensor with better rolling shutter performance and that allows 6K oversampling. New DPAF2 system. Detect only from C70. No overheating or record limits. False color. ProRes RAW via HDMI. Smart hotshoe for XLR. Breathing compensation. 10x zoom FHD. New video menu. Stills/video switch etc.
All this for yes the same price as the R6. and people are still complaining.
A7IV has overheating issues, severe rolling shutter, a big 4K60p crop..  lower resolution lcd, lower burst rate.. I mean what good is a BSI sensor when it has such limitations? You need to look at the bigger picture pun intended 😉

As an R6 user, I can tell you this is going to be Canons best selling camera (which R6 already is).
It finally eliminates recording time limits and overheating at 4K30p. That alone is major.
Adding false color, specific easy video menu, focus breathing comp and other video centric tools is fantastic.
    DPAF 2 is indeed killer.
The faster read out times surely means lower rolling shutter.
Really seems like the perfect mid-tier mirrorless. I don't see any cripple hammer, aside from no ALL-I codec so you'll need an M1 Mac to edit the 10-bit Log footage. Aside from that detail this is an A7IV killer.
Needless to say my R6 is going up for sale today.
Here is a pretty good rundown of the camera:

I'm talking about the kind of situation where the walls are dark, the window is in frame, the subject is in the room and is backlit by window light only. Here, you're likely to see streaking. But it's just not a very attractive shot anyway so it's not one that I would take, so I don't need to worry about streaking.
But if I had to then the best solution would be to light the room. Then the brightness of the room comes up relative to the window and then streaking is not going to be noticeable. As part of this strategy you could ND the window. But I like to travel light and make things easy for myself and in this case I would rotate the camera-subject axis by 90 degrees and shoot so that the subject is side-lit by the window and now the result is like a Vermeer and there is no streaking.
I know there was an influential video that showed streaking and it was a black studio with white strip lighting. Yes, here you'll see streaking because you have bright whites adjacent to dark blacks. But again, this is not a situation I normally encounter. I have seen streaking on my camera when I've sought it out to test if it was there - it is. But I've yet to see any streaking in my normal usage of the camera, which is reassuring. That's not to say it will never happen. But I had actually forgotten about it until yesterday, reading this thread 😂

Gerald is one of the only long-form reviewers on YouTube, he doesn't have much competition.
Someone like Kai is not going to be much competition
The thing is Gerald is a box and spec sheet reader, the presentable face of a specs sheet.
It is useful for finding out info although you could find it out a lot quicker by reading a web page instead.
He is a tester of what it says on the box. If it shoots 8K he is probably going to show you what the wall of his studio looks like in 8K versus all the other modes.
Without wanting to get rude, or personal, What's missing is any kind of real world creativity. This was apparent in the Sigma Fp and especially Fp-L review where he dismisses it for not having IBIS and fancy AF.
That was yet more proof if you needed it that he doesn't shoot anything. Those Sigma cameras have a unique look, a unique form factor, and Cinema DNG.
I think Gerald has an imaginary user in his his mind whenever he does a reviews. His imaginary user is always turning up for work for an online advert shoot, rather than on a street to shoot some poetic cinematography, or showing up at an indie film that he wrote himself.
So it is always going to be heavily biased towards "getting a job done" based on having all the boxes checks... AF, IBIS, 120fps, and so on.
It is a pity that in so many years he hasn't developed a craft, because he's had the perfect opportunity - so much spare time, money and freedom to put these tools to good use - but seemingly no actual interest in cinematography.
Anyway, that's just my opinion of Gerald.
A bit like as was the case with Bloom, these people get put on a pedestal because of internet fame and their work just doesn't justify it.

I get where you’re getting at with your suggestion as I use a variety of different cameras for stills ranging from expensive Leica M rangefinder to Yashica 35mm film point & shoot to older DSLRs and of course mirrorless.
That said I can understand someone with perhaps less experience and funds simply wants one camera body and one lens system. That’s a good place to start too.
The EOS R is actually a very decent hybrid despite all the hate it garnished at its release due to the massive 4K crop.
It sounds like you enjoy Canon ergonomics, color science, value their AF system and your invested in their lenses.

This begs the question, why go through the hassle of changing systems? And why even consider Panasonic if AF is important to you?
FYI, I was also an EOS R user with just the 35mm RF and EF lenses and I chose to upgrade to R6 two years ago.
Its a massive upgrade as you gain IBIS, oversampled 4K with no crop, 10-bit codec, Clog3 & DPAF2 with eye tracking.
It’s a bit of a no brainer if you’re looking to upgrade from an EOS R in that $2K budget. Although the overheating may make that a big no-go in that tropical Brazilian heat.
in that case maybe smart to wait for R6 mk2 that appears to be right around the corner.

or switch to Sony or Nikon if you can’t wait and wanna stay FF and have great AF. I’d only consider Panasonic if your planning on shooting video with manual lenses..
