  1. For camera, I'd love to pick up a new S7, but my S4 (i9506) is so damn sluggish despite its quadcore 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor (seriously, wtf). At this point, I'm ready to jump ship to Pixel, even if it's not waterproof.
  2. I'm a little confused. Do you need wifi or 3G internet for this to work? 'Cause Philip got an update reminder.
  3. No, I'm genuinely curious, since the topic of processor came up. Did you know compressed raw took less processing power than H.264 or H.265? I didn't. It's good to know that companies who don't have a pro video line of cameras to protect, like Nikon, Fuji, Blackmagic, and previously Samsung, can easily introduce compressed raw without pricing it like a Red. It'd been a mystery to me how Blackmagic had been able to bring out the compressed raw for their prices. But yea it's a digression from topic.
  4. Interesting, so theoretically, the NX1 would be able to easily handle compressed raw, if Samsung had decided on it.
  5. If the NX1 has a smartphone processor, what kind of processors are inside the Red and Arri to handle crazy resolutions along with converting them into compressed raw?
  6. Goddamn these NX1 freaks and their irresistibly fabulous cameras!
  7. Hmmm. I don't see any mention of waveform with the Video Assist anywhere online. Only histogram.
  8. I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
  9. And if you need a waveform monitor, the Aputure LS-5 looks pretty good at $500.
  10. NX1 continues to astound me.
  11. What about the Sony A7RII and A6300? I don't think they suffer from oversampled sharpness.
  12. We really ought to start a new thread discussing the various methods of adding softness to neutralize the Samsung's sharpness. I am on -10 always, but it's always been too sharp even then.
  13. @kidzrevil, as in a diffusion lens filter? Go, @kinoseed! @MountneerMan, you didn't see much improvement in shadow noise or motion cadence (a pain in a lot of my non-hacked videos)?
  14. Hey, guys, any word on the sharpness problem with the hack? I can't shoot video without an ND filter. Anything above F3.5 is too sharp. It's a pain in the ass. (Any tricks around it?)
  15. Ordered the SanDisk Extreme PRO 256GB UHS-I/U3 SDXC 95MB/s. I hope that's enough for the 180mbit hack.
  16. I found the early days of sitting-in-front-of-the-camera vlogging style rather painful to watch. It was only after I saw Casey's work that I started enjoying vlogging (he's an exception for me even now). Here's a video that tries to make a case for him.
  17. I don't even think we're talking about the same thing anymore. Not sure why you're insistent on it being done a certain way. I find the dual pixel function to be extremely useful. The Neistat-esque vlogging styles nowadays are more visceral. The idea of quality is less on well exposed highlights and shadows, but on consistency of image (content, basically). Sure, I'm not going to be vlogging while moving about with a boosted board and carrying a drink, but it's easy to see why it's one less thing to worry about when your image is not dictated by where you setup your tripod or rigs and if your lens is in focus.
  18. I understand where you're coming from, but you are clearly underestimating vlogging. Although I'm not planning on doing it full-time or as seriously as many out there, it's easy to see why it's important what camera you choose, given that some of them have it nearly 10 hours a day on them. The more serious folks like Casey Neistat are editing and releasing one video per day. Personally I wouldn't care for 4k footage, due to its size (and rolling shutter). And I'd want something pleasing without having to colorgrade too much. It's all about the best quality you can get with speed and content in mind.
  19. Oh, my bad! Searching "Canon M5" didn't bring it up on the first page. It does seem super lightweight, so you wouldn't need extra help hand holding it. So no other gears besides a hotshoe mic. The lack of side flip screen is a bit of a bummer, but definitely not a deal-breaker.
  20. Hi, guys. Any vloggers here? I'm considering the new Canon M5 as a dedicated BTS/vlog camera. While not exactly a game-changer for filmmakers, it looks to be a sweet spot for vloggers. Duel pixel AF, 5-axis stabilization, and waaay lighter than their 80D.
  21. That's a shame, if that is true. Also, would the average consumer really go for cameras like A7SII or even A7RII? I have my fingers crossed for the A7RIII. I'd be due for a high megapixel camera update. =)
  22. GH5 has 10bit video. So I guess it's only a matter of time before Sony joins with its next iteration.
