  1. I was wondering about that lens. Thanks. What about zoom telephoto lenses? It doesn't need to have a constant aperture (I value portability with IQ over constant aperture).
  2. I'm in the market for a telephoto lens myself. I might give the Sigma 50-150mm a shot. Any recommendations on primes for the NX1? Perhaps 135 mm to 200 mm range.
  3. I'm curious about the LG 31MU97-B. Here's something straight off Amazon. Have any of you using the monitor found its internal sound to be neutral enough?

    Samurai Jack

I think I was a generation early for that show. Not to brag, but we had possibly the greatest masterpiece in animated television history. Cinematic score, dark tone, great voice acting (best joker ever), reinvention of many characters (including Mr Freeze), art direction that was inspired by art deco,title-less intro, and especially its quiet moments --- this show had it all.
  5. Mirrorless - being a mirrorless camera is popular now I got this description from their website. I thought it was a parody at first.
  6. Man, that's a $100 premium. Ridiculous.
  7. Does anyone know the difference between Ikan Beholder DS1 and Beholder DS1? It appears to be the same item, yet have a price difference of a $100.
  8. Higher bit rates and raw video is my dream for NX1. I love the raw out of this camera. It blows away anything my Canon is capable of. I've taken a grossly underexposed photo of the city in the dark and managed to pull out such ridiculous amounts of details that I thought it was voodoo.
  9. Got a chance to finally check out your video (was outside earlier). That Cavision Matte Box looks quite ideal, being lightweight. I might get that instead of the Red Star now. Thanks!
  10. A recorder (bracketed audio, nevertheless), plus it's not plastic! I never even knew I needed it till I heard about it. If it's good as advertised, I'm ready to ditch the Sennheiser G3 + Zoom H6 for this. If I can get rid of even one item from my setup, I'm all for it. Check out their Word 95 presentation:
  11. Great topic. I'll add to the list: Red Star DV DSLR Pro II Matte Box - $169 juicedLink Little Darling Distributed Audio Recorder - $199
  12. Holy smokes that beautiful light!
  13. That's exactly what you wanna hear about a device. God knows there are enough things that could go wrong in the field (with no electricity, no laptop, etc), and you don't want the stabilizer to be added to that list.
  14. Ah, my type of shooting. My rig is still in the process. The NX1 is a beast for documentary (with its ois kit lens). But I do prefer having a pistol grip gimble stabilizer with it, just in case. - Samsung NX1 (with kit lens or 45mm) - Pistol grip stabilizer - Rode VideoMic Pro - Currently use a rented Sennheiser G3 with Zoom H6, but plan to switch to JuicedLink Little Darling (which acts as a recorder in itself with bracketed audio recordings) when it is released.
  15. ]Looks interesting, but don't most pistol grips already be able to do this much? (I'm asking, as I really don't know.)
  16. I was testing out my NX1 for the first time the other day with my Elinchrom setup and found the AF was constantly off indoors by a small fraction (details like hair and all would be better focused on my 7D). I didn't have the lights on, but it's not as if the studio is dim or anything; there was afternoon (12:30pm to be exact) sun coming into the room from a window 3 meters away. Wireless Flash mode isn't usable with an external trigger, so no brightness-boosted EVF. Not sure a brighter EVF will fix this problem, though. (On a side note, I realized my Yongnuo RF-603C (for Canon) trigger for my Yongnuo YN560-III speedlite is useless at the moment. Anyone know what trigger might work with the NX1?)
  17. DS1 looking better already! I will look more into it. Thanks. Less weight and more capacity is definitely a plus. I use my NX1 with a 45mm (variable ND) as well as a videomic (and god knows what I'll be adding in the future).
  18. 2-3 hours of battery time seems to match with NX1's battery life too. Pretty good. Would have similar change cycles. Still, I am amazed by Came-tv's baffling internal 20 hour battery life (it was 10 hour before and changeable apparently).
  19. Brilliant! Thanks for explanation.
  20. Thanks, I did check out Dave Dugdale's comparison review a while back and Pilotfly H1 looked more sensible for my taste. Portability is a big factor. Came-tv doesn't look like it can be packed away without a huge pelican-like case. Also, you can't use the Came-tv in an inverted mode (the pistol grip on top of the camera). EDIT: To add, Came-tv has the advantage of 10 hours of battery life, whereas Pilotfly seems to be more around 2 hours. Came-tv has changeable batteries; Pilotfly in-built. I often head out to places with no electricity, so battery life is a big advantage. Dave's review:
  21. Would a higher bit rate 8bit file have the DR and color depth of an 10bit file?
  22. Hi, folks, I know there are already a few threads around specific pistol grip stabilizers, so I thought I'd make a general topic for anyone with a question on one, or has experience using one to share it here. After my recent week long trip with the NX1 and its kit lens, I found the OIS can be a mix bag (works wonders at times; has a lot of jitters other times). And the 45mm prime is unusable without a tripod. (And I may add a Samyang 24mm f/1.4 in the future to the setup). Any advice on which pistol grip has worked well for you (or might, for my case)?
  23. Thanks. I think I'm a little spoiled by the 4k. The image looks impeccable (comparatively even on my 1080p laptop screen - voodoo, perhaps?)
  24. Ah, it appears EOSHD is being the unofficial NX1 forum. Love, love, love this initiative (I'd kill for raw video). Also, is rolling shutter dependent on hardware or software processing?
