480Mbit is similar to MJPEG. It's inefficient. Per frame, no quality increase over the 120Mbit IPB.

NX1 is actually more advanced with H.265, 6K readout, 1080/120fps and it is 5 years old.

Nikon Z7 has it for breakfast.
About the only improvement over the 5D Mark IV seems to be substituting MJPEG for H.264. Not that it was overdue or anything!

About only thing I can hope for is that the 4K is somehow full frame and not a crop but I honestly just think it is a 5D Mark IV in a mirrorless body, looking at the specs sheet, rather than anything really new.

Yep, perspective is only affected by the distance of the objects to the lens. The focal length & sensor size do not affect perspective in any way. A 25mm on a m4/3 sensor with an aperture of f/1.4 will have the same perspective and DoF as the 50mm on a FF sensor with an aperture of f/2.8. The other aspects of the image like distortion or busyness of the bokeh depend on the design of the lens and not the focal length/aperture/sensor size.

Bigger sensor, or faster lens? Which is most important?
Well, a lens you can change and your sensor you cannot.
Here's how to stop worrying about crop sensors.

Canon has used a Lot of Sony sensors in their Point n Shoots. I think They Need to use the new Sony m4/3 sensor. It would be a killer combo. The XC15 body would be perfect using it. ProRes Raw in it, constant aperture lens in it. Hell it would put a dent in the 4k BMPCC and the GH5s. Heck I might even buy it! I know @mercer would.

Yeah but the damn lens is another Variable Aperture lens. Who the hell needs that for video? That was part of the problem with the original lens. Crazy that Canon of all company's going to a 4/3 sensor!
Wonder if it will be the same Sony sensor that is in the GH5s, 4K BMPCC, Kinefinity 4k Terra?

Canon are so incredibly stupid, they could have did this 5 years ago and everyone who had invested in their lenses would have bought into this for eternity! At Canon they have one policy, ie "What's the least we have to do?", because that's what they keep dishing up!! I'm over Canon, they're completely useless and unnecessary now!

We have discussed this already, but it didn't have a dedicated thread.
This seems like an exciting possibility -especially now that Pocket made the hybrid camera, but with the video first in mind (and not the opposite, like all the rest of the hybrids), a reality - a XC-M camera could be the best of both worlds (and more capable taking pictures), and put Canon first in this new - and non existent yet - category of products.
XC ergonomics, with M lenses (the 22mm and the 11-22mm are good) and touch focus DPAF would be good news.
Still the M has some obvious problems, just a couple interesting options, no pro lenses at all, many kit zooms and only 7 lenses in total, no other competitive M camera existing - so it is difficult to envision a competitive XC when there aren't any M with great features, and how good it can be, and how cheap, when there is no C100mkIII, and the mkII is still a 35Mbps 1080 camera, and the next one, is a 9000euros 15minutes RAW camera (C200).
If Canon was someone else, I would be very excited, but now, it could be a very limited camera, with a very high price (2500-3000euros).

I don’t think 4K raw will go away. Raw is pretty much unprocessed, so should have the least overhead. But higher frame rates might go. As might 12 bit. I think dual iso will make the cut... that is unless they switch to a different sensor.
Usually I take well known manufacturers at their word. But BMD has over promised and under delivered many times in the past.

I don’t hate BMD... but I also don’t take everything they say as gospel.
For the record I hope this new camera crushes everything including Arri and Red. But I hoped that for the GH5 also... and the Sony’s etc... I own stock in none of these companies

Or just limit it to only tripod shots.

It can't be worse than what RED ONE shooters had to deal with! Remember how awful RED-DRIVEs were.

True, Canon EOS is burred six feet under by this point in time it is so dead.

Well we can use ProRes I guess, but in the output part of it what are people going to be looking at it with. Unfortunately most will see it in Rec. 709.

I am afraid we are in a transition period, and a lot of us if we are lucky will have TV that see Rec. 2020, have HDR specs from hell. We will have 12 bit cameras that are easy to use. Most Raw cameras are pretty much a pain to use or turn into usable stuff to output.
Way beyond my thought process to how it will all end up down the road. But I would imagine if a person had some money you will be able to buy stuff we could have only dreamed of, for not a hell of a lot in not a hell of a long time from now..

Sure 8 bit will fit in 10 bit and, 10 bit in 12 bit, on and on. Is 8 bit better than 10 bit, no. And the graph below shows why more bits counts. Can we afford high bit rate cameras, well hell no, not a lot of us LoL. We might rent one, operate one, but..
Rec. 509 fit into Rec. 709, and it still does on old re runs on TV shot 40 years ago. But 509 ain't 709, and 8 bit ain't Rec. 2020.
But you are right Kid it will all look better even though it is not true 2020.

It doesn't make great output from 8 bit cameras bad. Fuji seems to have figured it out moving colors around. It is what we have been using for years. Until the GH5 it is all most of us ever have and can afford like I said.. Who the hell even heard of HDR a year ago, or thought we could ever shoot it. Now we can see it on a Cellphone.
And sure you can have a wider color gamut, all kinds of gamuts. Hell look how many are in Photoshop, Premier, etc. but it can Only have 256 colors in  them in 8 bit. You can bend them to endless configs, but not like 10 bit or up. 10 bit is a Hell of a jump in color possibility's. And 16 bit, well shit.

    From Wiki.
    "Technical details
    Resolution
    Rec. 2020 defines two resolutions of 3840 × 2160 ("4K") and 7680 × 4320 ("8K").[1] These resolutions have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and use square pixels.[1]
    Frame rate
    Rec. 2020 specifies the following frame rates: 120p, 119.88p, 100p, 60p, 59.94p, 50p, 30p, 29.97p, 25p, 24p, 23.976p.[1] Only progressive scan frame rates are allowed.[1]
    Digital representation
Rec. 2020 defines a bit depth of either 10-bits per sample or 12-bits per sample.[1]
10-bits per sample Rec. 2020 uses video levels where the black level is defined as code 64 and the nominal peak is defined as code 940.[1] Codes 0–3 and 1,020–1,023 are used for the timing reference.[1] Codes 4 through 63 provide video data below the black level while codes 941 through 1,019 provide video data above the nominal peak.[1]
12-bits per sample Rec. 2020 uses video levels where the black level is defined as code 256 and the nominal peak is defined as code 3760.[1] Codes 0–15 and 4,080–4,095 are used for the timing reference.[1] Codes 16 through 255 provide video data below the black level while codes 3,761 through 4,079 provide video data above the nominal peak.[1"

Quote from the video comparison with the a7S:

I've been saying this for a long time that is the downside of the a7S, what good is insanely lowlight if your shallow DoF is impractical??

With the GH5S you can shoot both in low light *and* a DoF that makes sense for the shot.

There also was the Panasonic G9. Not super video related, but for the average person probably better way to go than the GH5.
Yeah that would seem to me also like a heck of a lot of cameras in one year to still add another..
