Hope not for such "much higher price point"... anyway. A third or 25-50% higher?
  2. Thanks

There will be a development announcement of it before the pre-order begins for the AFX so people can see which one of them - if any - will be more suitable for their use.
Price and lead time is the benefit of the AFX as for some people the combination of additional focus tools it brings to the Pocket cameras might actually be all that they need and the second unit will be a couple of months behind.
It is very, very different and whilst it is initially for the Pocket cameras it is a more universal product.
As I say, both will be known before any pre-orders happen for the AFX so it will be easier to evaluate for individuals then before any commitments are made.

I think it's - if we have a device similar to Tilta Nucleus Nano, but from a different manufacturer, will it still work?
Eg the focus wheel on a gimal.

I am still hoping they will release some firmware update to help to extend the recover period, hence that's crucial for a lot of further buyers purchase, myself included. Without it, I am out : )

Apparently you can extend the external recording life in the 4K HQ mode (30fps) if you remove any cards from within the R5:

And DpReview have already learnt of this video and are talking about using this setup for 8K video... 🤣🤣
That micro HDMI port is the weak link in that setup.

I recall some discussion about this awhile back - think it was here on EOSHD forums. Anyways, looks super simple. Can't wait to try it. https://hackaday.com/2020/07/18/an-hdmi-monitor-from-your-phone/

    A bit of an update.
This is the one I bought for the princely sum of €17.99
    https://www.amazon.es/dp/B08BKNJP7N

And it works OK to be honest.
Its certainly no worse or laggier than the far bigger and far more expensive one that I've been using so as long as you manage your expectations as I've discussed earlier in the thread then it is a useful tool.
Another common drawback is the lack of an app that will give you monitoring tools but if your camera can route its own ones to the HDMI port then its not a big deal.
Tried it with the Pocket4K (which can be quirky with some capture cards) and the Sigma Fp and they are both fine and of course benefit immensely from being able to have a slim, low cost, non-battery eating, very bright tilting screen when you are out and about.
However, a big niggle with this particular one (though they all like clones of each other so it could be common) is that too much of the USB connector shaft is exposed so it can wobble in the USB OTG adapter which will cause it to lose signal as it isn't fitted flush enough to the end of the unit to support it.
Considering the low cost of the unit, the low cost of OTG cables and that I won't be wanting to plug it into a USB port on a computer, my solution to this is going to involve moulding a bit of Sugru to bridge the gap and bind them together.
    Who am I kidding ?
We all know its going to be Araldite all the way.

So what have we learnt?   Seems to me the Canon WILL probably over heat due to internal camera generated heat and outside temp may not make much difference at all.
The Sony will overheat quicker when the outside temp is high enough to make a difference but might not at all otherwise.

That makes me even more sure that Tilta thing would actually work BETTER on the Sony than the Canon.
    I stand to be corrected!
Guess we are all still looking for this (even if only for down the track).

The question now is to know how to properly overcome the settings limitation in-camera restricted by Canon... Stop the recording each 14 minutes 59 seconds or 19 minutes 59 seconds, respectively, as for instance to keep it rolling?

What about the Tilta cooling option?

Seems to be viable. Kind of embarrassing you have to buy a second party product to have your camera function but it is what it is.

I am still waiting on Dynamic range results from both cameras.

Looks like a really good design that's more than a fan.   I would suspect that they had a heads up on Canon's heating issue and had time to design this the right way.
QUESTION:  Now is this a better cooling system design then what the S1H has built internally?
I will guess this takes away all heating issues with the R5.  Fan noise might be the same as the S1H also.

I'm not an expert but all the negative and exhausting testing reviews about overheating should eliminate any class action lawsuits.

Yes and not only about RS... I think R5 is overall a better capture device but it is natural some people will choose one over the other. We cannot share all the same option for our fav colour or the world would be monochromatic : -)

Autofocus.  AF speed is properly adjusted to account for and leverage the shorter focal length and the brighter maximum aperture.
Dual-pixel autofocus (DPAF) and video AF support.
Focal length and aperture are adjusted in EXIF (see note 3).
    Image stabilization (IS) lens support.
Store EXIF data (lens name, focal length and maximum/minimum aperture) for one manual lens in the adapter.
Build-in multi-function Control Wheel (turn/ push-in) for assignable functions(eg. ISO, shutter speed or aperture control, depth-of-field preview).
    LED indicator shows communication status.
Powered by camera body. With most lenses, no external power source required.

With Tilta's cooling workaround, I know I will end to buy one...
Canon is like Blackmagic to digital filmmaker, it is synonymous of the world of pictures itself ; )
BTW we're shooting three short films and a feature film from a C500 these days, works like a charm! : -)
