Yeah, I'd like a Olympus E-M1 Mark II body, with Sony APS-C sensor performance, Fujifilm processing and compact solid Sigma lenses native to the mount in relation to sensor size. Everybody's pretty good at their own thing. Nobody really nails it all. I guess that's how they survive. Keep people wanting for more...

I'm a big fan of Nikon's video image. Just wish it was a bit sharper and they had focus peaking.. and an EVF.

Yep, I got the hunch that my FS5, or a new 1DX II wouldn't be able to breathe together, given the sheer cost and differences.
I'm going to keep my EF lenses and do bits of photography on the 80d. Don't need more than that for stills. I could get an A6300/500 - not overly keen on Sony for stills though.
Selling my DJI X5R and Osmo if anyone wants it btw!

Unless you're having financial issues, then why sell the C100ii? You have one of the best, for its cost, cinema cameras out there with insanely good AF. That camera will pay for itself in less than a year by doing an odd job once or twice every couple of months.

Film Grain in Premiere Pro CC. Overlay, % and contrast.

I think it's as simple as those two examples representing the two opposite extremes, and people here want something more in the middle- a detailed image without artificial sharpening making it look gross.
6D footage has issues outside of resolution and sharpening- mainly awful moire and aliasing- and you can't really fix them.

Hey,
I visited Japan for a week, and tested out the 5D III and to see what it can do with Magic Lantern.

To add, spend a few minutes on Amazon Prime under the horror category... the production value of some of these movies look like they were shot on a Flip cam and the stories are even worse... you will be hard pressed to find a story that doesn't involve "a paranormal investigation team" or "after the loss of their child... they moved to an old country farmhouse." Sometimes the two are combined. So my point being is that sometimes you don't need good production value, image quality or a good story, you just need the balls to go out and make something. It reminds me of the line from Ed Wood... when speaking to a producer about his latest film, the producer told Ed that his movie was horrible, maybe the worst he ever saw, Ed Wood went on to proudly say... "The next one's even better."

M5 (+ EF Adapter) prices in EU: EUR 1100 - 1200 http://geizhals.eu/canon-eos-m5-schwarz-gehaeuse-1279c041-a1508044.html
Looks quite overpriced compared to e.g. Nikon D5500 http://geizhals.eu/nikon-d5500-schwarz-gehaeuse-vba440ae-a1214458.html

EOS M5 footage? I doubt it.
80D is ok. Expect the M5 to have similar video quality.

Shoot everything at 1080p. Don't shoot yourself in the foot with 4K. Although I do like shooting ceremonies at 4K for the post crop.
Canon skin tones are the best. Even a used 70d would be better than Sony IMO. The C100 mk1 and 2 are the best cameras for weddings IMO. I've shot a few recently with C100 mk1 and my 1DC and it's super nice. Here's a teaser I did with 1DC/ C100 combo:
You MUST MUST MUST remember that wedding films are CONSUMER PRODUCTS. DONT EVER FORGET THIS. THIS IS 6 years of experience and over 300 weddings shot of experience talking to you. These people aren't professional filmmakers. They aren't producers. They aren't film snobs. All they want is pretty shots of them on their big day. If you shot it all with a t2i and a 50mm 1.8 they would love it because it looks "cinematic". Don't get caught up with the gear when it comes to shooting weddings. That's the biggest waste of time and money. The couples simply don't give a shit.
I hope you enjoy it. Weddings are a fantastic way to get lots of experience and become a ninja shooter

I don't have anything in production to show, but today I shot a couple of short clips that I've uploaded to Vimeo:
The password is: eoshd
The clips are straight from the camera, you can download it from Vimeo. The first is my son backlit with a colour card in very light shade, there's bit of flare at top of frame. The second is to give you an idea of what kind of dynamic range you can expect. Both are shot in 4K using the Flat profile with the Nikon 20mm f1.8, around f2 - 2.8 (can't remember).
Regarding live view, you have to engage live view every time you turn the camera on. I'm pretty sure there isn't a way to have live view turn on automatically. Then again, even when the camera is on it uses very little battery, so there's very little penalty to leaving the camera on and live view off. Except for changing lenses with IS/VR/OS elements, if you don't turn off the camera the lens won't park the moving element and you'll hear the lens rattle like crazy.
I'd appreciate it if you don't share this all over the internets, I made these for this community because I've learnt tons here and I want to give a little back. I just feel a bit weird about my son's face all over the internet even if he is hiding behind a colour card...

bamigoreng reacted to Bioskop.Inc in Canon 1D X Mark II review part 1 - why superior colour means it's game over for my Sony A7S II
Exactly this & only this.
Doesn't matter if you're a professional or an amateur, buy a Canon or a Sony, want a hybid or a dedicated camera. The reason you're interested in all this lovely, and sometimes not so lovely, tech is that you want to create/produce something - regardless of whether you make money out of it or not.
However, there does seem to be a rise in people who don't want to sit down for 5mins and learn how to use what they've bought. Yes, you're not going to be an amazing photographer/filmmaker over night, it takes time & a lot of practice. So, don't ever blame the tools, because that isn't the problem. If you've used enough cameras, you can spend a few days with something new, do your tests (these are YOUR tests, not someone elses & should fit YOUR chosen style), then know where you stand (limitations etc.) & away you go.
So, now I've re-thought Andrew's post & examples: firstly, he has the guts to put stuff on line for the whole world to see, and that takes courage; secondly, the Canon vs. Sony picture comparison might need re-thinking or re-interpreting. Now i'm not defending anyone, but having thought about it for a while, this is the conclusion I've come to. The Sony pic is just an average sterile thing, no complaints, looks fine, but is boring as hell - it has ZERO character! The Canon pic made me laugh at first and then the more I looked at it the more I realised that it wasn't this bland sterile, boring thing - it has character, it isn't perfect & that's why it stands out compared to the Sony pic. We all looked at the Sony pic & thought perfect, but who really wants to sit there and produce the same thing that everyone else is producing? How are you ever going to be your own person, with your own tastes and vision if you just tag along with the rest of the sheep?

bamigoreng reacted to DPC in Canon 1D X Mark II review part 1 - why superior colour means it's game over for my Sony A7S II
Richard Bugg, I asked because I'm interested to know who's opinions I'm reading. It's getting a bit weird having so many of them and so little work to show. Apparently Andrew owns the camera and says "What a shame the 1D X Mark II is a pros-only affair." That made me ask. It can't be very hard to answer. It is relevant in that professionals have a skill set that clients are willing to pay for and the most to lose if their judgement turns out to be wrong.

I've said something similar in another post: I've switched to Nikon after being a Lumix (GH2/4) user for 5 years (and having tested as well Canon, Olympus and Blackmagic cameras along the road). I've had the D750 for less than a year and I couldn't be happier with the image I can get with it, specially thanks to the delightful colors, wide dynamic range, reduced RS and unique DOF.
Of course I miss some resolution, focus peaking (easily fixable with an external monitor), anamorphic modes, HFR and some other cool features but in the end, for the types of projects that I do (mostly low budget short films & web series), nice and clean 1080p, beautiful colors without to much hassle and that subject separation that FF easily provides is what ends up being most appreciated.
With so many camera announcements it's easy to be tempted to switch systems every 6 months, but even when I consider the Fuji XT2, Oly EM1 II and Sony A6500 very desirable pieces of tech, I think that I'll stick to my D750 at least until Nikon releases its successor and/or 4k delivery becomes standard.
And amen to that. I've been suffering from this disease for years and it's been my most unproductive season ever. Too much time spent on looking how gorgeous my footage could be if I had this new cool camera instead of learning how to get the most out of the one I currently have.
