    Why do you ask?

I'm just curious about how many people have a functional 10 bit image pipeline and what that constitutes and if its worth it in any way lol

I technically do, since all the new OLEDs are 10-bit displays

nice, how are they? thats the direction im going...

  2. hey guys!! please help me so i can recommend camera(s) for my friends new ~low budget youtube show~

its a satire of a typical late night talk show... from carson to the present, very similar sets, right? desk, two chairs/couch, etc. this will be a small set in a living room – not the ed sullivan theatre, just fyi

the director wants to start with two cameras, allowing for the possibility of adding more in the future, but they need to match – meaning: we need two inexpensive identical camera bodies. two of the same camera

    the camera needs to:

    - have reasonable image quality
    - shoot forever without overheating
    - have a front facing flippy screen
    - be super affordable
    - it does NOT need to shoot stills at all, a 'camcorder' is totally a possibility (something in know nothing about)

    suggestions??

please help!! thank you!! love u guize!!!

if u wanna actually do this, you need a great script which ppl LOVE, something brilliant, and you need to determine a budget if u wanna produce it asap

    what's your projected budget?

and you want to write a BOOK first? a NOVEL? sure, but this'll take a while and you may lose a lot of your [long] novel when you get to boil it down to a screenplay...

    I don't write anything without a concept of budget -- how could i? am I writing a $100 mil film or a $1 mil film? there's a big difference!

and you're going to crowdfund the budget? tell me more

    oops

5 more films?! That's great news. I admire your work ethic

thank you, i wish it was better tbh, but i keep making things.

I hate casting and funding, etc... you know all of the things that make a movie happen.

oh good news: if you get deep into it youll hate it MORE

/ive been making things. the pandemic kinda messed me up BUT

as long as we're talking about art here........

i take my art practice super seriously. im super self critical and it can be paralyzing – im sure many of you can relate

but every time i make a lil film, it gets so much better. and i take these things as defeats, still, because there are inevitable (yet unpredictable) disasters one way or another, but i LEARN SO MUCH that after the shoot and im done licking my wounds i can go back and say Wow im growing as a filmmaker. i just learned not to do 1000 things that ill never do again. and my Big Idea turned out pretty well, i was right about a lot of things, not perfectly executed, far from it – but im getting better all the time. and one day my reach will catch up to my grasp.

so my point is that the only advice i have for any filmmaker is: just keep making stuff. you'll see

  7. also @kye i fundamentally agree with your point, as an artist, profoundly

less is more – i did not make that up 😂

but now we're getting into weird territory that cant be evaluated with lens charts

Oh shit! Did they digitally crop for an artistic intent? Amateurs!

just for the record here, i have no idea why anyone wouldnt want more resolution from a camera shooting video, its not any different than stills to me (??). i want a nice high res unsharp image and ill do the rest. clearly better in post – color, vfx, etc. where am i wrong

  10. yeah my ears are burning bc of the 'clay' skin tones comment

i agreed with that 100%, like i said, and now im not doubling down, im tripling down~!

    • 5d mark 2 color was amazing, less realistic, more green and magenta (im not a scientist lol dont ask me), vs...

    • 5d 3 color which was amazing, warmer and prolly more accurate, but then

    • 5d4 came out and their color went to shit. 'flat' skin tones? yes, it looks like the men are wearing foundation

but mind you, im ONLY TALKING ABOUT SKIN TONES, and crazy as it may sound, for my artistic purposes ~im happy to grade the heck out of everything else in the image~

neon grass/etc was common back in the day for canon, but id gladly wrangle the rest of the image for skintones which show blood and skin translucency better. its a huge way that we show emotion~! *no one actually cares what color a tree is* – you can make it teal. but if a persons face is teal they look sick (not sick cool but sick ill lol)

i will power window the entire shot around the skintones. is that a practical workflow? no, its far from ideal, its time consuming. and ofc im speaking about creative 'artistic' filmmaking, not a product shoot where you need color accuracy and immediate turnaround. clearly. i get all that

im just saying that there IS a difference in canon color from the 5d4 on, and i dont think that its an improvement. idk if its better at shooting a color chart, i respect the need, i just personally dont care...

so am i imagining all this? maybe its a dream
