Re. L-mount lens choices - Don't forget the S5ii/iix is APS-C crop in 4k60p (and you can choose APS-C crop for other video modes), which means the cheap but good Pana 20-60mm 'kit' lens becomes about 90mm equivalent at the tele end.
There's also a pixel-pixel crop mode, which is about 3x magnification in FHD so 180mm equivalent (at reduced video quality of course).

Its secondary to its stills use and hence there isn't that much example footage from it, but the Q3 has 8K video.
Which is the expected nod to it arriving in an arguably overdue refresh of the S1 range in the not too distant future.
My guess is that is what this gathering is for rather than a GH7.
Unless its the bi-annual meeting of the Shocked Face Clickbaiters Association.

It's a spec war; they'll have to, regardless whoever says what. Of course, the same argument could have been make about PDAF and it too them how long? I guess we'll soon find out if they learned something from all of that.

    I'd go for a high-res S5 ii, as they've already done the video-centric 'x' version of the S5 ii.
If it is that, any bets on it supporting 8k video?

Just an update, it does seem from reading around that this My Menu bug affected X-T5 and users were told to limit items to only one page of My Menu instead of two. I tried this realizing that damn near everything can be accessed in the quick menu on my X-S20 instead, and after many tests it does seem to patch the issue. Some users seem to report it never occurring on their camera and others say it still occurs.
Funny I didn’t recall seeing this mentioned in any of the few X-S20 or many X-T5 reviews on the internet..
My review as of one month owning and using is this:
    * Great image SOOC. If you hate color grading like me, this is the price I’m willing to ignore most of the downfalls
    * Better grip than XT3, smaller body but not too small. Lack of d-pad and only one stick for navigating that kind of sucks sometimes
    * Usable touch screen
*Good battery life \ poor battery access depending if on a tripod (not issue for me, hardly ever use a tripod)
    * IBIS is usable depending on use case. I have notoriously shaky hands, and this simply works for me. I’m not trying to film myself, vlogging style, just trying to get stable handheld and it works great here.
*My Menu software bug. Hopefully this gets fixed because if not, limited to no use of my menu.
    * Limited physical buttons on camera. However there are touch screen has swipe functions
    * “Q” button helps lack of physical buttons by access to almost anything via a pop up menu. Including frame rates, codecs, pet auto focus etc
Not a comprehensive review but for anyone who is browsing thinking about the x-s20, these are my thoughts after 1 month.

I agree the GX85 is one of those cameras where the design and features were 'just right' when it came out. Its main problem (for me) is the on-board audio is poor (terrible electrical/IBIS noise breakthrough) and there's no mic jack, so getting decent audio means using a separate recorder.
Wanting a genuinely pocket-sized camera with decent video and on-board audio, plus reasonable stabilization and a mic jack, I've just bought a refurbished Sony ZV-1 (original version). Only had it a few days and been able to test it much yet, but so far I'm quite impressed with the performance of such a compact camera (and the build quality seems pretty good - it's a nice solid-feeling camera, like the GX85 is). It's only a 1" sensor, but it's BSI with reasonably low rolling shutter and decent low-light performance.

(I also own the Sony HX99 small-sensor/30x zoom camera on the far left - that really is small!)

I'd also love them to do 1), but I can imagine some of the YouTube influencer/reviewer comments:
It's expensive It overheats recording 4k60p after 10 minutes if it's really small and light - "There's no IBIS" If it's got IBIS - "It's not small enough and it's too heavy" The battery life is too short It doesn't have a fully articulated/flip out screen There's no headphone jack Most of the above list would not actually be issues for the vast majority of potential buyers if it was cheap enough, but it would be a hard sell if it's almost as expensive as a G9ii
Maybe the answer would be to market it as a Leica camera?

    My Priorities for Panasonic:
    1) Release a VERY SMALL M43 camera body with PDAF and full-sensor readout in 4k NOW!
    2) Release a GH7 with variable ND and PDAF.
    3) Release a high-end video camera with variable ND and PDAF for L mount.
    4) Release a pancake (28mm or 40mm or both) lens for L mount.

    So...

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on September 5. I had my right kidney removed on October 13 and am now cancer free (and if my scans show nothing in April I'll be considered cured!). During that entire period though, I didn't do any jobs and just focused on recovering, but had decided to dip my toe back into the water and had a small job planned for a friend this week.

As I was just going through my equipment in preparation of getting back into the swing of things my pup Teri knocked over my main S5 and IT BROKE. Now, it doesn't impact my job because I have two extras of the same cameras, but obviously it left me needing to get a new camera. Sooo...
I bought the Lumix S5IIX instead of getting another used S5. I swore I'd never buy a camera brand new again, but the used price isn't that much less, and I was able to get a decent deal on it with a lens. With all I've been through (having my kidney removed was, without a doubt, the most painful thing I've ever experienced, just FYI) I figured I'd treat myself.
This is a long way to ask a couple questions while I wait for it to arrive tomorrow:
    1. how easy is it to match the original S5 straight out of camera or with a little tweaking using the standard or natural color profile? I will use log, but for certain jobs it's just easier to skip that part.
    2. why is there no third party battery grip? has anyone heard why?
    3. I have a couple third party batteries. Wasabi and Newmowa brands. Has anyone encouraged any problems with third party batteries? I have like six OEM batteries but I've heard the S5II and S5IIX's battery life isn't as good as the S5.
    4. what are the best settings? I've seen tons of YouTubers but I'd prefer to hear it from people that do more than film themselves in their spare bedroom/garage and actually are out there getting the most out of their camera.
    5. This one is most important: I just want you all to know I love you all. My ordeal has given me a greater appreciation for life, the interactions I have with other human beings, and just everything, really. Thank you @Andrew Reid and everyone else that makes this place special.

Sports is the main target for the A9 III for Sony and the reason they went global shutter. Lots of pesky LED advertising signs which can cause banding, lots of fast action at the end of long lenses, fast pans, and also sometimes the need for complete discreetness and silence, no mechanical shutter or flash.
So for sports photography, they are getting ahead of the Canon EOS R3.
Also the very fast burst rates, small size of the body, smaller lenses (sort of) put it ahead of any mechanical shutter camera or 1D X Mark III.
They want to challenge Canon's dominance in football, F1, olympics and so on. Big money riding on it.
I think in this regard it is really well targeted and innovative, it's just a bonus that they eliminate rolling shutter for filmmakers as well, but not as big a deal for us as it is for sports shooters.

The animation below from a Wikpedia page about rotary disc shutters illustrates their operation (and film pull-down) nicely, showing that the sweep of the edge (the rolling shutter equivalent) is quite short in relation to the exposure time:

(Image By Joram van Hartingsveldt - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=924146)
Film projectors have basically the same mechanism, except that usually the shutter operates at twice the rate to create 48 Hz flicker which is much less noticeable/annoying to viewers than 24Hz.

Global shutter is cool and all, but not having it really hasn't impacted my work given how good RS has gotten.
I see this as being a much bigger deal for photography than video.

Yes, especially as some full-frame cameras (e.g. S1, S5, S5ii, S1H, a7 IV, a7C II) have an APS-C crop in 4k50/60p, so it's a sensible video lens option for those in addition to native APS-C cameras.
I think MrSMW uses it sometimes on his L-mount cameras?

Sorry I wasn't clear. I feel like there are more problems with moiré in 1080p than with the GX800. The 4K is fine, except for the crop. The EVF is bad, only due to its optics. The EVF is sharp only in the center; everything else is slightly blurry. I've have many EVFs and the G100 has the worst, including the one in the GX80. I really hope Panasonic ditches the poor EVF.

What's the problem with the viewfinder?
Is the moire mainly producing 'false colour' or just patterning (like the 'jeans' example you posted earlier), and is it an issue in both 1080p and 4k?

The viewfinder royally sucks- might as well not have it. I also had many moiré problems with it. IBIS is better than what people say with IS in the lens. Colors are wonderful.
IMO, the cameras that are truly small for what they are: 1) GR, 2)A5100, 3)GM1/5. I just want a GR that does video, even better with a zoom and IBIS. It won't happen though. To be really small, it needs to be a POS; although the GM1 + 14mm f/2.5 comes really close.

The LX100 size comparison is interesting (I own the original version, but usually use a micro4/3 ILC instead):
    From L to R: Sony ZV-1, Pana ZS100/TZ100, LX100 and G100+12-32mm

The LX100 is actually quite chunky in comparison to the ZV-1 and ZS100/TZ100 (the LX10/LX15 is about the same size as the ZV-1 and shares it's lack of viewfinder).
I think the LX100 is a very nice stills camera, but the video C-AF is poor, the OIS is only 'OK', there's noticeable aliasing in 1080p, the power zoom isn't very smooth, the rear screen is fixed and if you look at a spectrum analysis of the audio it's got a deep, narrow notch in the mid-range. But at least it has a viewfinder.
I'm actually quite tempted by a used G100...but it's probably just GAS really...🙂

Ok. I've decided to wait a little longer for the G9 ii. I want to see how things shake out. Also, this camera is so popular that I'm fairly sure demand will be high and I won't even get it till mid November at the earliest... when I'll be heavily into work. I'll just go a little longer with the E-M1 ii and GX800. Other than the slow motion, they fit the bill for me right now. Make no mistake, I really want this camera though. It'll be available soon enough.

I agree, but some are better at minimising the impact of it e.g. like the GX85/G95/GX850 you mentioned above. Moire in 1080p is more noticeable on the Oly E-M1 ii & iii than on those, despite having a higher-res sensor (and noticeably soft 1080p video).

If I had to choose just one lens to keep out of my collection, it would be the Pana 14-140mm F3.5-F5.6 - for the range it provides it's relatively small (75mm long) and light (265g), it supports dual-IS2, focus breathing isn't noticeable and on my copy at least the zoom ring is reasonably smooth. It's been my most-used lens ever since I got it as a bundle with a G6 years ago.
If I could keep a few more, then...
The Oly 12-40mm F2.8 - just a great all-round, reasonably bright, moderate wide to moderate telephoto, no noticeable focus breathing, 85mm long and 382g. (The Pana 12-35mm F2.8 is a bit smaller and lighter and gets you dual-IS - I was considering both a while ago and then a really good used deal on the Oly came up so I went for that).
The Oly 75-300mm F4.8-F6.7 - what I use most often for wildlife, pretty small (117mm long) and light (423g) for the focal range, and decently sharp for something that small/light/cheap.
Low light? usually just chuck the Pana 25mm F1.7 into the camera bag or pocket in case I need it - cheap/small/only 125g.
I also own the old Pana 20mm F1.7, but that's noisy when focusing, so I might swap it for a 17mm or 15mm fast AF prime at some point (Oly or Pana Leica probably).
I've recently acquired a used Pana 35-100mm F2.8 (to complement the Oly 12-40mm F2.8). Decent lens and not too large/heavy for a 'pro' lens, but it's got noticeable focus breathing so not ideal for video C-AF use.
(and yes, the Pana 12-32mm pancake is great when you want to keep things as small as possible, especially if you're taking two cameras on a trip, so that would be a 'keeper' too).

At twice the weight and 1.6x the length of the 35-100 F2.8, I didn't even contemplate the 40-150 Pro F2.8. I did consider the Oly 40-150 Pro F4 as it's about the same size & weight as the 35-100 F2.8, but decided I'd prefer the faster aperture.
    Compromises...
Basically my target weight limit for body + lens is around 1 kg.
