Exactly. Classic Canon. Overpriced. Under delivering.

I wouldn't say no to buying a Canon camera, but only if I get it at waaay under market price. Which is how I purchased my Canon 50D

It seems 100% stable at 180Mbps with AF on. Seems 90% stable at 200Mbps with AF on (first try results in stopping due to card too slow error, then try it again and it stays running for several minutes, then I ended the test). Not stable at 220Mbps with AF on or off.

Just got the card and tested it. I am comparing it to my Lexar 1000x 64GB card which struggles with higher bit rate stuff it seems.

First the Lexar: 52053KB/s write, 86406KB/s read

Now the Delkin card: 64990KB/s write, 89404KB/s read

I have yet to try it out other than these tests, will let you know how it works. I was hoping it would be faster than the Lexar 2000x though which it does not seem to be.

You can still get your hands on Samsung batteries all over the place, why do you need the third party ones? They are cheaper for a reason.
Stick to big brand names like Watson for example they put the proper real mAh capacity in their batteries, Chinese brands usually just put half of what they advertise.

It'd be great if e-shutter only could be enabled for nx1. I'm pretty sure it could do at least 24fps in that mode, at 4k or even 6k.

I'd say NAB2017 is a complete bust, camera wise.
Nothing from BM, Canon, RED, Arri, Nikon (!)...  A teaser from Panny and a sports cam from Sony.
Is Cinegear gonna be the new place to announce, or is it just a one off?

Brian, I can't comment on the improvement for the NX500 before and after the hack. With the bit rates, it really seemed like a no-brainier. Although the Samsung codec is superior, the stock bit-rates are still to low for getting the most out of the 4K resolution. I've heard plenty of GH4 owners complain about the 100 MB on their cameras.

The NX1 has pretty terrible noise reduction going on above 1000/1600 ISO, no idea why they implemented it, its not there in the NX500 for some reasons and even high bitrate wont really solve your ISO issue on the NX1 although regarding the NX500 even though it has no noise reduction even at 4k or 1080p, when you start hitting high ISO specially above 3200ISO its just a mess really, avoid that.
And yes you can update the lenses with the custom hacked firmware, the lens firmware is separated from the camera itself, its two different things so it wont harm your camera or anything.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
All this camera talk over the past 2 years has made me realise that specs really does not mean a jack shit these days, as long as it shoots acceptable video its good enough, the NX1 not just shoots acceptable video it shoots SUPERB video, at least for me. The colour profiles are all like their own film stock and remember that film stocks did not have amazing dynamic range in the past either unless you specifically picked one that did.
I been spending more on audio equipment lately and as the professionals always use to say, audio is far more important than the image, I think the NX1 will do me very good for another 7 years or even more, its a little shame I cannot get that extra dynamic range or better ISO performance but you know, for what I spent on the camera which was under 2000 dollars was far less than the Canon 70D or the Sony A7s at the time which was very expensive cameras. The GH4 has smaller sensor so does the GH5 and the GH5 suffers a lot in low light situations still, you need really fast glass for it.
Sometimes one just cannot have it all I guess, shame that Samsung officially ended their camera line though, I hope the hacking continues there definitely FAR more potential on the Samsung cameras than the Canon ones in obtaining superb quality video, and even now the Magic Lantern guys have got 4k from their canon cameras, that is amazing if only we too could have RAW video from the Samsung, it would have solved the dynamic range issue and ISO issue. Heck even MJPEG would have, I sort of see why Canon went with MJPEG on the Canon 4DMIV.
I plan on hiring someone in the future to at least try to hack it for raw video, but until now I am just going to keep saving, it costs quite a lot to hire someone who know how to work their way around these things, in fact I wonder why we have not gotten together to start a funding page to hire a group to hack the camera to begin with, it would been so more effective, if everyone donated 10 dollars there still would have been quite a lot.

Meh, only JVC comes close to Samsung NX1 in colour and those cameras costs a hefty sum not to mention they are huge and bulky.
Samsung put artists to make the colours, Panasonic put scientists, there will be a very huge difference.

Samsung has created a camera too futuristic to be replaced soon.
The great definition, detail, ergonomics make NX1 an irreplaceable camera.
I hope that the Samsung resume soon to build camera, or that some manufacturers put on the market a new camera taking inspiration from NX1 camera, acquiring its technology and perhaps implementing it with a full frame sensor.

Nx1: still much more details, faster and more consistent af and better colors. Gh5: much better is, 60fps more at 2k, slightly less rs.
For video gh5 is probably the best choice right now, if someone is starting a system from scratch. Nx1 is a much better camera for stills and very good for video nevertheless.

On a side note, a big thumbs up for this guy, who is still considering nx1, while most other previous "supporters" simply forgot about it.

NX2 would have been scheduled for mid/late 2017 and would have had a much better sensor (i.e. APSC vs m43 to begin with and possibly more than 28MP), with embedded dram for very high performance in slow motion (240fps@1080 at least and 60fps@4k). Who knows? Perhaps it could have been the first 8k consumer camera...
And since NX1 is still a much better camera for stills compared to GH5, I can only imagine what NX2 could have been there.

I cant remember why I stopped using it, but I remember commenting something about it around here on the NX1 thread.
I wouldnt recommend the DIS, it might be usefull for some occasions, but more often than not it would ruin the image.

Heres some NX1 footage if you're interested, almost everything in my channel is from the NX1.

Let me try and answer as much as possible here, since I have both the a7sII and NX1.
    1. I dont think that problem is still alive, neither was alive when I bought the camera.
    3. Autofocus is pretty good, unless its lowlight, it hunts quite a bit.
    4. Depends on the framerate, 4k - 1600 / 1080p 60 - 800 / 1080p120 - 400.
    5. No, however, the rolling shutter can easily be avoided, specially with the 16-50S lens.
    6. Yes, it has Gamma DR, however, if you search on other threads, there are custom profiles that work really well.
    8. I would say they are average.
    9. No idea
    10. The EVF and Screen is the best screen in any camera, the a7sII is terrible when compared to the NX1 both in the EVF and Screen.

Overall thoughts, The NX1 is still my favorite camera, the image is very very pleasing, and after you learn how to work with its image, is a very veyr strong camera, specially if you get it at a good price.

    I'll give you my take:

The NX1 is very useable at 1600, in my opinion, that's really the highest I ever have to go with fast glass and a speedbooster. I'll use 3200 in a pinch, but that's honestly more light than I need 95% of the time. There is no gamma DR on the NX500. Most of us NX junkies here on the forum have stopped using Gamma DR anyway, and run with a tweaked standard profile, but the NX500 also lacks a master black level control, so it is quite difficult to get a flat image to match the  NX1.

Quirks that drive me crazy: You can't adjust the focus punch-in; it's always right to the middle of the image, which is really annoying. Can't do it while recording either. Also, the EVF can't be toggled during recording, you either choose to use it or you don't, the only mirrorless cam I have played with that does this. No mic input on the NX500 also.

Preamps on the NX1 are great, head and shoulders better than Canon. Autofocus seems about the same between the two cams. It's no dual-pixel, but very reliable during talking heads, interviews, that kind of thing, and I use it on a gimbal without a problem. I actually like the EVF much better on the NX1 than the Sony cameras, and the screen is way, way better as well. Sony screens and EVFs seem very mushy and soft to me, and peaking is basically useless. The NX1 is far superior in that regard. I've never used a Fuji camera, so I can't comment there.

As Mountneer said above, the hack doesn't change rolling shutter at all. My favorite features are the bitrate hack of course, and allowing silent shutter on the NX500, which makes it rule as small, portable timelapse camera. The ergonomics of both cameras, but especially the NX1, are just fantastic. Clear, easy to use menu system, comfortable in the hand-- I just can't give them up. I've been playing around with a GH5 at work quite a bit lately, and it's a cool camera, but... I still like my NX1 more! Good luck!

    @Mattias Burling
Personally, I don't care about wins & losses of any manufacturer. Adapt and make profits or burn money and retire immediately or in some years. At the end of the day, we don't know Sony's strategy (burning money first for getting considerable market shares at long term?)...
Much more interesting for ambitionned stills shooters and pros are some other questions needing clarification:
How well will the A9 nail focus compared with its direct competitors 1DX m2 and D5? 20fps means nothing if it doesn't nail focus better than competitors... Focusing reliability and speed in low light, compared to its competitors/low light still cameras (D750, D5, 1DX m2)? Some of the A6300 and even some A7R ii overheated sometimes when shooting stills (after firmware upgrades no more) - hope the A9 doesn't overheat when shooting stills because this could be a deal breaker for many potential buyers (I would immediately return the camera and want my money back - no waiting for a firmware upgrade to solve overheating issues when shooting stills) What does "dust and moisture resistance" mean? Is this a little better than junk consumer cameras, or is this a claim to rely on when shooting outdoor (with all manufacturer warranty commitment implications?) Personally, I don't believe that it could focus fast and reliable in very low light on moving objects (like its DSLR competitors), because no mirrorles can do this until now. I would be very surprized, if Sony disabused me with this point...
There is also a point, nearly noone speaking about: the 20fps burst rate is 12bit RAW. You can get full 14bit RAW only when you considerably slow down your burst rate...so 14bit RAW will be the same burst rate as the ancient NX1 from 2014...

If the Rolling shutter issues are sorted, that would be great. What about the colour depth and picture quality. I would love to see some comparisons between this and the pics coming out of the Nikon and Canon Flagships.

Also, if they have nailed it for Electronic Shutter, then it would be the single most significant development, since the creation of mirrorless. Because, the noise, the vibration etc etc are actually handicaps in many ways.
