The main reason I did not back in the first place is because of the footage that looks absolutely terrible, IQ wise.
Looks more like an amateur garage made product than something pro. Well you will tell me the Apple 1 was made in a garage too... :)

Policar - I'm perfectly ok with Samsung's Lens line as I am NOT invested in the Giant sleeping "Canon" or Sony (Indeed SOny is better than Canon in innovation).
Providing a camera that can get close to RED's results that introduces /utilizes the H.265 where footage takes a 5th of space, still photography and AF is close to excellent - at a sub $1.5k price is indeed a revolution (Referring to the NX1)
Why woul'd I buy a RED for what $10K not including the storage needed and lenses ? We can all argue on ISO and DR performance - but from what Ive seen - unless youyre trying to shoot at 1lux - the NX1 does a fine job. At 800-1600 ISO I could not see a major  diffeence between the NX1 and the high end cameras.
So if I can shoot a theatrical film using NX1 - I will - at the end of the day 80% of the result is dependant on the DP's knowledge and even MORE important in the story/substance behind the film.

That being said -  would have loved to see 4:2:2 recording internally and at least 10-bit so Green Screen work would be optimal - though I have seen some amazing results in 4K 8-bit and even 4:2:0 pulling a clean key.
Policar - I'm assuming you are on the still photography side of things and video is not your primary concern?

Eric (a guy posting on dpr) did some tests on the lenses, and those resulted in the lenses covering at most an aps-h sensor size.

Classic case of salespeople talking utter BULLSH*T! Which I put down to 95% them simply wanting to make a sale at any cost, and 5% due to being utterly clueless and out of touch.

As seriously come on... do you really believe the 16-50mm f/2-2.8 (which sells for merely a little bit more than US$1k) could perfectly cover FF too?

I think it'd be too early to get a new nx1 model, but everything is possible with samsung. I'm just happy that I found a nice price on nx1 two months ago, similar to the present one. Otherwise I'd be so upset, now.

My idea is that the algorithms in nx1 could be further enhanced by samsung. From the link I shared in another thread, it is evident how in stills, iso 100 pushed ahead of 6 stops is better than internal iso 6400 on nx1.

Hence there is a potential dr in the raw image captured by the sensor at base iso which is NOT achieved either in internal high iso raw, or in encoded video.

Not strictly video related, but I was stunned by this:

Imo the nx1 is well ahead of others, when ev is pushed ahead. The incredible thing is that nx1 fares much better when pushing iso 100 ahead of 6ev, then in its iso 6400 mode!

    What do you think?

Nx1's highlights are much much better! Only because of the nice pleasing roll off When actually optimizing it for maximum DR.

Are you fine?? Where am I upset? I simply stated that it's about 1 month that nx1 does not get updated. In the meanwhile, a lower model came with some better specs. This, imo, is not logical and not customer oriented. If for you is different, then express yourself w/o saying silly things to others.

But you can use loads of cool and cheap vintage glass that's not s16. And s16 wouldn't cover the large APS-C sensor anyway.

I bought it 2 months ago, new, for 1.225€ shipped, so that's about the present price, but now it doesn't sound that great deal it did 2 months ago.

I think samsung is terrible in this, and if nx1 goes lower than this it will destroy the credibility of a 'prosumer' product.

I've used both a c100 and an nx1. I'll just say that to me personally the dynamic rand is definitely close! I honestly didn't see that much of a difference at all in Dr on the nx1. I'll also add that the nx1 is a great camera that'd I'd personally choose to shoot on over a c100 or c300 at this point.

I bought it for 1510€ two months ago (+ the 16-50S lens for 1000€). I never expected the NX1 falls in price so fast.
I will remember this for next time, thanks Samsung.

Yeah that thread title isn't negative toward the NX1 at all.
Also again I asked what you are playing it on currently, can't fix the problem without knowing if your playing it on a PC/Mac or on a TV. For PC Pot player is my current favorite to play the original H.265 files on, runs smooth with no scaling issues on my 1080p monitor.

What are you using to play it? Are you running the video on your PC to the moniter? What software? Off a USB stick?
Like others above me pointed out, this is a fault of bad scaling, not the camera. I hate negativity about a product created by user incompetence.

There's barely any aliasing or moire at all. Just convert the clips to 1080p or 720p to match your display then judge the amount of aliasing or moire. From my experience there's is none!

Just a precision: in Europe all cameras have a limit of 30min :/
And I went through hardware issues with both my gh3 and gh4, but not with my NX1 yet - I think it's a matter of luck also, and early adopter being treated as "beta testers"... (for both companies)
    - Also to be fair, the customer support in Paris is very good concerning panasonic's camera. Haven't tested the samsung service yet. Also my NX1 fell on the concrete when I was shooting in a rainy day in NY and nothing happened to it. It continued filming in the snow, in the rain, in the sun. I can speak highly of the NX1 reliability.  - Don't wanna sound like a NX1 fanboy, I still can't sell my GH4  - I'm really attached to how small and easy to use it is.

    I use both.
GH4 with Panasonic primes and zooms, the 3 Voightlanders 0.95 and the SLR Magic 25mm/0.95 and 35mm/1.4.  I love the GH4. It's quick, easy and reliable to use, compact and lightweight, and superb image quality. You do need to set colour in camera rather than pushing the grade too much. Great quality 4K published on a 1080 timeline. Lovely clean image with a slight filmic grain. I shoot mostly travel, hotel and property videos with it. It's a complete and mature system. I'm very used to the system and the workflow, one take and I know I've got the shot, it's never let me down. You can shoot beautiful work with a GH4, and with a speedbooster and cinema glass you can achieve any look you want.
Recently I spent an hour watching NX1 user footage on Vimeo and Youtube, and immediately ordered the NX1 and the 2 pro lenses from the Samsung website. Delivered the next day. Oh boy, this camera is awesome. Image quality exceeds the GH4 in every measure (I only shoot up to 800 iso, I prefer to light the shot if necessary, so I can't judge high iso performance). Autofocus is superb and very useable (I can never use AF successfully on the GH4). The image grades beautifully and the colours are amazing, there's just something special about the image in my view (I tend to drop the saturation a little). Ergonomics are great, like the GH4. The NX1 stabilises better in the hand than the Panasonic (NX1/16-50pro vs GH4/Pan12-35 f2.8). The image detail is mind blowing, you can't distinguish between a 4K frame grab and a 28MP RAW photo file (so long as you're exposing the scene nicely). I can shoot footage on the NX1 I never would have dreamed possible before. The NX1 is my go to camera.
    I'd go NX1, no doubt.
Edit: just to add, of course it depends what you're shooting. If I was off tomorrow to Spain for a month shooting villas, I'd take the GH4.  Anything 'creative', I'd go NX1 and pick up some nice vintage glass.

NX1! Definitely NX1! If you don't care about transcododing the h.265 (which doesn't take that long) then there is basically no con to getting the NX1! I'm shocked with how pleasing/amazing the image quality is. The image to me feels like a Canon C500 in 4k Or a Red Epic! It's incredible!

I honestly think DSLRS are great for films. Look at the season 6 finale of House! It was shot on a 5d and looks incredible!! Same with Act Of Valor!! That was a bug budget Hollywood movie shot 90% on 5d's. If a Canon 7D can be used to make features like "Like Crazy" then an NX1 should be perfectly usable at 4k! Hollywood movies use expensive cameras because they are better in different ways. It's going to be much easier to make an arri Alexa look like a movie than it will for a NX1 so Hollywood of course will use the best there is. But if you know what you're doing the NX1 can be used as a story telling tool just as much as a red can. It'll take more work but for the price I wouldn't mind working a bit harder.
