I just received my Kinemax 6K. I did some tests and I must say I am positively surprised by the camera.
I do not know what will be the future of this camera but with the new deal that included the 6k and High-speed, kineAudio, KineMag 120GB etc ... Under 10k without tax, I think it remains competitive for a tool very powerful.
The Golden 3k expected to arrive this summer with the HI-speed 4K / sport mode and the KineAudio.
For now I can already say it s nice to work with the camera, very stimulating. The results are, in my point of view, very impressive. The CineForm workflow is convenient for shooting in documentary style. Nice menu. I am surprised by the sensitivity of the sensor. By filming in shoulder, I didnt had any problems with the rolling shutter. It was not hard core shooting.
Sorry for my english, i m working with my body Google Translate, together we almost write in english

I want to take time to share some shots soon...

That's not actually true anymore. Kinefinity have/are changing the spec on what's included with their basic packages. Their "Starter" package is now $8999 and includes the following:
    6K Raw Option
    4K Hi Speed Option
Free Assimilate Scratch rental for a year
    Kinestation
    Dual 3G-SDI Monitoring Outputs
    KineAudio
    Integrated Battery Plate
    KineMAG-120GB SSD
    Movcam Upper Handgrip

The Kinemax works out roughly $2000 more expensive than the URSA Mini 4.6 when you add EVF and 1TB of media.

It's a fantastic camera, but I could use some of the money toward getting an apartment with my girlfriend, and some of it toward a couple of additional lights. I looked back at stuff I shot on the GH1 and thought it still held up well, and I started to like the idea of trying to work harder to make my old camera sing. So, it's part "I need cash" and part "I already had a camera, I should add to my lighting kit and try and get better at that".

I don't think the difference from 4.6 to 6k is that negligible for a production environment. But even beyond resolution, the kinemax holds other advantages.
Records internally to third party SSDs.
Has more frame rate, resolution, and aspect ratio options.
    Interchangeable mounts.
First party speed boosters for full frame look
Shoots useable 6400 iso vs. 1600 max.

I love the images I'm seeing from this camera. If kinefinity ends up having legitimate customer support, i could definitely see choosing it over blackmagic.

so, could be that the lx100 is all you need, way at the low end of your price range and super light and portable. it's got to be the best budget 4k right now, the next jump being the nx1/gh4 for interchangeable lenses. The g7 coming out "soon" could be great for you, and possibly slightly better low light than the lx100, which is still pretty decent. you might be able to add a used a7s just in your price range, with like a fast, manual 30-ish mm, making use of the crop modes for different focal lengths. there are pretty good low light performers for way less though if it's going to be a rare occasion. might be worth getting an lx100 and just see if you really need anything else. lots of flexibility in that price range really. Hard to say exactly what would be your best bet

It is normal that in 4k this camera has a wider zoom than GH4: when in 4k, the GH4 uses a smaller portion of the m43 sensor. In addition, some m4/3 lenses (as the zuijo 14-35 f2) produce a bigger circle than the standard m43 one and you can set VSM at 86% without vignetting. The downside of this camera is the poor support for manual exposure: only one zebra position, no waveform, no histogram and for this reason my trend is to underexpose. (If they only could add a waveform in a future firmware update). For the remaining, I like this camera and it is enough for my needs
    Regards

    Hi Everyone
I just uploaded a few more videos. You have all de details in a TXT file which will give you the details on each files 30 or 24p, shutter speed, ND or not, ISO...
    https://mega.co.nz/#F!eg1TXKLL!WBv81oNbDStmsc0rYvkPtQ
I will try to shoot low light video, skin and rolling shutter soon.
Also, you will see a "BAD" tag on two files. This tag mean that despite having on the LCD everything perfectly done (AF, Zebra and so on) the result was disappointing.

So far there are a lot of thing that I like on this camera and a lot that I do not like (50/50). I like the fact that you can set a limit on the low and hight aperture range. For example on my 12-35mm I set the lower limit to 2 and the upper limit to 8, since I know that above F8 my lens really sucks (Diffraction). Another thing that I noticed and I will need to test it again is that the LS300 seems to provide a wider zoom (with the same lens) than on my GH4... I will try this more carefully tomorrow, but each time I had to significantly move the LS300 toward the subject in order to achieve the same result as my GH4 was offering.
Finally, and I will go on in details soon on this, but the LS300 give an impressive result in closed environment when you have full control on the lighting and so on. Outside and on the go the LS300 is much more difficult to master and the LCD monitor and viewfinder really does not help.

    Cheers

I don't think it was off topic at all but thanks for the sentiment. Part of the discussion, for me is, when are too many, too many? Of course, that opens the discussion to any type of equipment. Other filmmaker's decisions and workflow can be very enlightening. For instance, I have been toying with the notion of picking up a B cam. I only shoot narrative material, and a lot of impromptu lens tests, so I have only ever had the need, and budget, for single cam. But since the G7 was announced, I am contemplating picking one up plus an FZ1000.

lenses will only increase in value.  think of them as money in the bank.  if in debt, sell the lenses.  if in credit, keep them and earn interest.

I have a wide 10-20 zoom, but I've stopped using it.  I also have a 12mm.  As you say, there's always something that gets in the frame and it's very easy to quickly use a zoom lens to punch it a little to avoid putting something unwanted in the image.
However, that's exactly why I'm trying to get away from zooms.  Because it's easy to "fix" your framing by adjusting the focal length.  It's more of a challenge to work to find the shot by positioning yourself around to the proper spot.  And you never really get where you want to be, so you have to consider different visual options.  It forces you to think of a new solution you wouldn't have otherwise.
For instance, instead of a single shot that shows a building exterior, all of a sudden I'm finding that I need to shoot a sequence of medium shots and close ups to show the setting.  That's different than what I'd do in the past and creates something new for me.
BTW, most of this is for MY personal shooting.  I will do this for clients if the job is right for it, but I do have clients where I just bang out coverage as fast as possible...
Basically I'm saying I don't want a zoom to give myself quick solutions to framing.  I want less solutions in order to force my creativity.
