BrorSvensson reacted to dbp in Capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments: to raw or not to raw?
14-140 V.1 is fine. Even the 14-42 V.1 (Which I own) has excellent OIS compared to the newer models.

If i would capture something like this i would film a "future proof" format like 4k or uhd. The Gh4 with the 14-140, a 25mm 1.4 and VLOG would be my choice of a travel camera. Very efficent and nice 100mbit codec, good DR, sharp imagek, awesome battery life and easy and quick to us.

Something getting released in July?
(BTW, the LS300 should be here on Wednesday. Its in the same price bracket and might upset things. Bought a vintage 35mm for 20 bucks this weekend just for the occasion.)

Don't have it any more
Don't know, will have to check. Its pretty much the same compression that Blackmagic has in all their cameras.

Here is some 5D Mark III Raw that show its Dynamic Range.
In the shot I closed the blinds behind me so the window infront is basically the only light source.
So yeah, very much backlit. Same in camera settings on all, exposed with ND.
In my examples I set the highlights and shadows the same on all, then I boosted the mids as far as I thought was somewhat usable.
I used highlight recovery for the clips with blown highlights.
No grading.
(Please note that resolve interoperates WB wrong, so set it manually.)
Number 1:
ETTR, no highlights blown at all.
Before
After
Number 2:
ETTR Medium, some blown highlights outside, great job by the recovery.
Before
After
Number 3:
ETTR Low, Blew almost the entire window.
Before
After (look at them clouds returning )
The files:

Dropped a LUT on the last one just to give an idea. Not adjusted.

this fairly recent topic talked alot about the 5d mark ii raw video, a good read i think.

BrorSvensson reacted to Phil A in Sony a6300 4k
There's a DigitalRev test out for the video aspect. The rolling shutter is really massive.
I also had to smirk that certain lenses will make it impossible to mount the A6300 on a longer quick mount plate like most fluid heads use because the mount is too close to the bottom.

Supposedly the iPhone 7 is going to have dual lenses. One wide angle, and one telephoto.

BrorSvensson reacted to Mattias Burling in Brand New G7 + 14-140mm = $550
This is a Swedish store but their customer support is awesome so Im sure they ship abroad.
The price is due to an damaged box, thats right box, not camera
They are also selling the GH4, GH4r and GX8 at great prices. Probably only one or two of each, so dont wait if you want it.

BrorSvensson reacted to ricardo_sousa11 in Your ideal NX1 Settings
Just finished my first Music Video, not exacly as I planned it would go, had some setbacks on filming and what not, but yet still pleased with how it turned out. Everything was shot on the NX1 and the aerials on the P3. Was a great challenge, doing something as "big" with such a tight budget, but loads of fun ! Let me know what you guys think =)
Also, to anyone interested, heres the band iTunes page, they got some great songs =) https://itunes.apple.com/pt/album/new-dawn/id953049235?app=itunes&ign-mpt=uo%3D4

BrorSvensson reacted to IronFilm in Fs100 in 2015
Yes... "s" is lower case when it should be uppercase like this: FS100
Also he is a time traveler from the past who has traveled into the future to ask us about a camera. Very sensible move! I always try to do the same before buying my cameras as hindsight is golden.

If you can spend double (or triple) then a Sony F3 will be a way better deal.
But at least now there are E mount adaptera with a variable ND filter built into it that you could use with a FS100

I saw it to
Ive had it. Its a nice camera. Weak codec but nice.
The great thing is that you can dial in some nice PPs that doesn't need any grading.

Super excited myself. Let me know if there are any specific question that I can look for.

BrorSvensson reacted to TheRenaissanceMan in Upressing Panasonic Images
There's been a lot of discussion about this on the Mu43 User Forum. In short: shoot with good technique, use a sharp lens, and you can print large with very little worry. Don't let the numbers scare you.

Why would one upress an image? You wont be getting more detail.

At least you can use use copyrighted music on there since the major monetizes on videos. I couldn't upload my last videos on vimeo since they got deleted immediately.

BrorSvensson reacted to Axel in Free way to use luts with FCPX
LUT Utility (integrated in Color Finale) is available as stand alone plugin for $29:
http://www.colorgradingcentral.com/lututility/
I get everything free, because I roundtrip to Resolve. But if I was ever to grade in FCP X completely (which I did, using the trial period of CF), I would then buy CF and Coremelts SliceX+TrackX:
By the way: SliceX is free now, it's then only limited to rectangular or oval shapes. Wicked, because with FCP X's own new mask tool and TrackX you could Mocha track your CC masks in the fashion showed above (EDIT: well, I think not, but anyway, the combo Slice/Track makes sense).
For me, CF came too late. I had already learned to make minor adjustments with the simple color board and to move to Resolve if that didn't suffice. In Resolve, adding nodes and organizing them is a smarter way to grade step-by-step than changing the order of effects in inspector, where the need to constantly scroll up and down bothers me. Free Luts, free tracker.
