Think your right. Panasonic has the potential but it doesnt feel like we are there yet.
I guess BMD is the most likely but Im not counting out others like Bolex , Craft, etc.
BTW, many of us get serious G.A.S during NAB. This year I might have a cure. Instead of following the "Wait until NAB", Im unboxing my very own LS300 today
EDIT: That reminds me, for the first NAB, JVC is under the loupe. Hopefully they release the 120p to be able to promote it as current. And who knows, maybe something new.

I think Blackmagic, Canon or a Wild-Card company will release my future B-Cam. I dont think Panasony will do it.
A also think 4K recorders will be big. Maybe a Blackmagic Hyperdeck 4K or Atomos Ninja Star 4K.

They have been using it for quite some time with great results. Definetelly shows a segment where the camera is great.
This is mainly a "film maker" forum. But we sometimes seem to forget that not everyone of Panasony and Canikons customers are.
Some are videomakers like Jared and some are still photographers, again like Jarred.
Thats why I sometimes have an issue with the "only an idiot would..", "thats crap because..." and "why does Canon..." type of attitude on every single product that doesnt also serve as a perfect tool for shooting a narrative movie.

No idea but I doubt it w/o replacing the codec. Chant might eventually be able to do something about it but don't hold your breath. At the moment I see a slight chance to get:
more resolutions (i.e. 2.5K on NX1) the high rate 2.5K on NX500 (subject to dangerous manipulations on burner cam) maybe higher res and rate MJPEG out of NX1 (although TBH I do not think it would reach the quality of 150-160 Mbps hevc) with a lot of luck disable or reduce video NR (I might take a look at this at some point in the future but this will definitely involve weeks of work so not too keen to start). Basically Chant is looking into adding true new stuff.
I have been looking more on the side of tweaking what's already in there - easier than Chant's ambitions but I already picked the low and medium hanging fruits.

Maybe they can buy up the NX1 production line now that Samsung has no use for it and start inserting some BMD touches to it. I'd prefer a camera NX1 sized that has impressive features and performance as well as decent batterylife and screen on the back that could be used as-is, standalone, over a smaller formfactor that's more or less a sensor in a box and that's that. But I think they don't do that, because they don't want to appeal to the consumer market, but the pro/indy one.

Yesterday i took my 5d3 to the airfield to test the recently added new S16 crop feature. Correct framing and fluid live view (two the most important improvements) are just essential to shoot fast moving objects. What a great new tool!!!
Almost everything was shot with 70-200 f2.8 IS II with 3x 1:1 crop at 1080p 25fps. Lens set at f8. No single damaged frame (recorded on sandisk 128gb 160mb/s card), just perfect. I have to get canon 2x extender now to have 1200mm lens

Of course the A6300 blows away the X-Pro2 with it's 4K, log profile and other stuff, but looking at the 1080p samples is interesting:

The X-Pro2 looks much more detailed (at some points over sharpened), but all in all it looks really nice, especially if you know how older Fuji cameras did.

I wouldn't drop any cash on a camera until after NAB... Even if you can't wait for the announced camera to ship, you might find price drops on the older cam you want.
As things stand, I'd agree with the suggestion of the 1DX II... Will be a low light beast too and seems quite future proof.
I'd also think about an fs700/O7Q combo... The transition from the fs100 will be easy and it has alot of power

BrorSvensson reacted to natluma in Panasonic GX80 - 5 Axis IBIS works on video!
Hey there guys, been a lurker for awhile but decided to chime in on this conversation. I actually had an opportunity to play around with a GX80 (and the PL 100-400) today at my local camera store. They had a rep there who happened to have a copy on hand and he let me use it.
I was really impressed with the Dual IS in 4k. Its stabilization is as good as the EM5 II but with the added benefit of resolution. The story wasn't as good when I mounted my Oly 12-40 on it however. There was some sway and shake in the footage when handholding but it didn't look too severe. It would probably be easily stabilized in post.
EDIT: Also, he told me that IBIS stabilized video will not be coming to the GX8 via firmware at all. The reason he gives is that the IBIS in the GX8 is spring-based and therefore not compatible with video while the GX80's is electromagnetic.

BrorSvensson reacted to richg101 in Medium Format 4K Raw Video on new Hasselblad Camera
in video mode the frame will be 16:9 so the biggest they'll get is 53mm x 30mm vs Full Frame which is 36mmx20mm in 16:9.  It's a significant increase in sensor area, however I bet they window in.  - the 11,000 pixels of sensor width skipped down to 3800 will not be nice!.  Assuming they do use the full sensor width the horizontal crop factor is 0.68x.  When the lens speed tops out at f2.8 on Hassy's boring lens line up a 5dmk3 in raw and some otus's are likely a better bet for achieving the look of medium format motion picture.
Since it's a Phase One back, I expect video will be offered on the phase system, - vastly superior lens line up.  Still I imagine the downscaling to 4k from over 16k worth of pixels is gonna affect image so much it won't matter what lens you use.
