So the card will be good for the editing but not so much for the rendering? The rendering is my biggest concern. Not so much about speed but quality. Everything I've tried to render in 4k has turned out extremely choppy. 1080p is much better but still.... I bought the camera for the 4k!! Maybe I should look around some more before making a decision. Thank you for your thoughts agolex!
The quality of the render shouldn't be affected, I guess, that sounds more like there are issues with your PC and software. Really hard to say what, though. Bad overclocking, faulty software installs, faulty hardware, hard to say. You don't get better video quality usually, just faster editing and rendering.

Awesome!

The Christmas Shootout: Part 2
Aaah, that must have been the scandal girl. Oh the memories.

Hey guys a question. My current desktop is a Dell XPS, I7 3.4ghz, 32GB ram and an older Radeon graphics card. The way the computer is built, it can only hold smaller graphics cards which limits my choices to upgrade. I've been looking at this one Nvidia quadro k2200. What do you guys think? Will this run Resolve? My guess is yes but before I drop the coin I'd like a second or even third opinion. Thanks!
The way I understand it, it would be a great card for the UI and editing part, but you'd need a second one that drives no monitor for computing acceleration. And for that the big gaming cards are better. But as long as you're not trying to render a feature, this shouldn't matter too much. Please, anyone with more insight chime in, I've always tried to wrap my head around this as I haven't had more than a single GFX card, yet.

its SO fun youre gonna love it. tbh idk if ive had this much fun shooting since i got my first camera
Absolutely agree. You just take that little thing on a walk and get great video – even handheld. That's why I wanna get rid of my other cameras and get the A7RII as an A-cam, pure convenience. In terms of stills, the RX just isn't enough for me, no night time photography doable with that small sensor and poor assists. Before I thought "hey, you might need this and that and a follow focus and whathaveyou", but I now realize that I will probably always be a one man gig and because of that I wanna stay light and simple above all things. So I need image stabilization and decent AF for times I can't do it manually. And the RX10II just works in these departments.

One solution to the heat, could be the samsung way, h265 codec. With that, they were able to put 4k in a tiny body like nx500 at 70MB/s with great quality. It's far less CPU intensive. And if more brands do that, NLE software houses should accelerate their support to that codec.
Far less CPU intensive? It should be quite the contrary, see here for instance: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/x265-hevc-encoder,3565-3.html On the decoding side it's several times as CPU-heavy as h264.
I wouldn't be surprised if it were just Samsung's software skills that allows for the unproblematic 4K encoding.

Interested in this camera as well.
If you wanna buy one then, check the Gear for sale thread, just put mine up for sale. http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/8978-gear-for-sale/

Why can't Sony just do it like Canon has done it since 2009? When you press the shutter button, the camera stops video recording takes a picture and then resumes. The video itself doesn't cut but during the photo capture there's a second of black.
Works brilliantly.
Shouldn't be necessary nowadays with enough processing power, electronic shutter and fast SD cards.

Gotta love Sony for their retarded software antics.

How have you managed to fly under my very well evolved bastard detector radar for 196 posts?
I'm usually a peaceful chap. And hey, I'd shoot night landscapes at 1.2 as well – if I had such a nice lens. I do miss the Canon 24 1.4, that was really a killer nightscape beast.
-
Sometimes yes!
I know what you're implying...
Landscape photography should have infinitely deep DOF and must be as high resolution and as sharp as possible... blah blah blah.
Real artists make their own rules.
*pat on back*

Also what other 42MP full frame camera are you going to use, which does a sharp shot handheld at 1/4 with a F1.2 lens and usable ISO 6400 when exposed correctly? That is not what I call a "no go for landscape", even low light landscape.
You shoot landscapes with F1.2?

Can you zoom in while recording 120fps? That could lead to very nice artsy shots..
120 fps is normal recording mode, so you can do whatever you want. The lens isn't parfocal, though.

Most people nowadays (including me) use nifty tools like filmconvert or LUTs in combination with tried and tested camera settings, so no worries. Download the filmconvert trial (stand alone or Premiere plug in, if you have access to that), download the different camera settings files (Arri often times gives nice results) and have a go with it, you'll see where the proclaimed "magic" comes from most of the time. There's only few people around who can grade properly without advanced tools and plugins, so don't get frustrated. It's all about money and the right workflows nowadays.

Interesting posting style. Thanks, Greg!

Definitely as in?

Might certainly be, but I'm pretty sure the Mark II has a new raw format.

Plus, I trust DigiLloyd's opinions on such things. The continued compression and pre-processing of sony's RAW files continues to disappoint me, which is why, despite my lust for a larger stills sensor, I'll never use a Sony APS-C or FF as my primary stills camera.
I wonder about the RX10 II, though. Wasn't blown away by the raw stills from the A7s, but for its sensor size and lens limitations the RX10 II raws hold up very well to grading. Maybe they are in some way different than the A7rII's? Can't see compression going on in there.
Paid Features in Resolve Studio 12 Beta 2 Not Working

I'm having issues with the new Resolve Studio Beta 2, the paid features like noise reduction aren't working anymore and the program doesn't even seem to be looking for the dongle at startup. It starts without as well. Anyone else having these issues? Dunno if I had this with Beta 1.
