  1. Got the Samyang/Rokinon/Walimex/Whatnot 100 2.8 Macro, really sweet lens. Tried a bit of video too with the spider, but it's really hard to keep focus in macro range. Thinking about getting the VDSLR version instead which has more focus throw. However, the lens breathes heavily and might not be for every situation.

Stills shot with Nikon D800, might put something together in terms of the NX1 spider video later on. :P

  2. Is this not exactly what  is being done with the creators of this work?

This is an unrelated discussion forum. I wouldn't have stated my opinion on their Vimeo page or anything like that. Every now and then, though, I just like to let off some steam by writing up my thoughts. After all, I lack peers – being a ghost and everything.

Apart from that, nothing to me on here (or anywhere else) is exact(ly), clear(ly) and I don't have projects, I'm just a lone geek running around with a camera once in a while. I'll wait with my first "project" until I have an idea I deem worth realizing. Finally, I'm not into advice that has not been asked for.

  3. Let everyone do what they wanna do, I'm just constantly under the impression that nowadays where everyone can do anything thanks to the affordable (to us First-Worlders anyhow) tech, things are going down the drain pretty quickly in the art department. I mean, just look at my aforementioned clip, it's atrocious!

Nowadays, people collaborate until every last bit of originality has been spent on compromise, political correctness and the ambition to appeal to certain audiences. "We need more women, we need a black guy, we need a gay guy, we need an alien, we need more flares, we need more fucks, we need more production value, oh and marketing said we need to put in assloads of Apple products, candy bars and organic food. And the Vice of the production company wants his dog in the film."

Gone are the days where someone had an outrageous and personal idea and fought for it to the bitter end. Now we have social media where you can get uncanny amounts of feedback to help amalgamate your ideas into insignificant clichés with maximum production value and the eternal (a few weeks by today's standards) gratitude of your Facebook peers.

Art is dead, all hail the many-faced void of extroversion!

This is one of Valve's biggest aspirations,  they've been putting a lot of money and time into this for the last 5 or so years. The future of ESports and Gamer Community, pretty awesome. The newest addendum: everyone gets to create their own custom games via the easy-to-use development kit. Plus there's even an engine to make your own films with the kit. I'm quite sure this is one of their dearest babies and imho some next level Machina shit. : )

  5. Much appreciated. Samsung's ways of deployment are kinda awkward. :P Very promising piece of software, I think. Some stuff has to be done, but off the bat it really works nicely. Great reaction times.

  6. Andrew,

Thank you for all your tests, I read all your posts about the NX1.

For this video you used the internal H.265 encoding if I'm right (and not an external recorder).

I have one question : on the extracted frame below the blue sky has 'artefacts' (right corner) ; is this due to the JPEG compression or is it like that straight from the H.265 ?

    This 4H frame (castle) : http://www.eoshd.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/nx1-castle.jpg

    Thanks in advance !

    Beny

That's codec-related banding and totally normal in high contrast shots. Has to do with 8 bit color depth afaik, might be the compression, too, though. You see that all the time in mp4/mkv streams, don't know if Bluray is exempt from that, perhaps someone with deeper understanding can chime in?

  7. I'm usually not into bashing people, but I've just realized that Herzog has nothing to do with this clip. Had canceled it before, because I kinda wasn't into the audio track. Ed, I really think this is a bit pathetic, abusing Herzog's name for this (I found your forum nick change and Lynch's portrait a bit weird, too). I can remember that when I first stumbled upon you, I noticed your short Charlie Chicken that is said to be executively produced (whatever that's supposed to mean) by Lars von Trier. Was that a hoax, too? Boy, that would really be a bloody mess... Then the Bloom thingie...

  8. Here is pure proof that the movie is genius: Alot of people enjoyed it for a pure action movie (which it is), and many enjoyed it as an action movie plus layers of subtext (which it is). Either way it's enjoyable. Miller is just too smart to leave symbolism and subtext untouched. I mean look at the writing on the wall: "WHO KILLED THE WORLD?"

Every half-decent artist knows how to irritate people by dropping a few unintelligible, chaotic remarks/symbols. :P
